the one in the picture you just posted

This is the game that triggered my chronic headaches.

get all of them OP they are cheap as chips. all feel different but yeah, i play ut2k4 mostly these days avoid the free one at all costs

UT99 has better bots.

UT2004's bots have predictable and robotic movement, slow turn rates, and bullshit accuracy. In team games, the enemy bots tend to ignore your teammates and focus attacking you.

Ut2003

Is 144hz monitor essential for online instagib"?"

UT99, even the singleplayer tournament mode is pretty well done.

Should I buy Unreal franchise for $5 if I will 99% only play SP?

I really enjoyed this one.

nigga I've played the Unreal games for years and about 90% of my playtime is SP

Yes, it's what most people who still plays the series does anyway.

2004 has a great single player mode. Rememeber the ai in unreal scoured higher on the touring test than people did.

I heard it was nothing but bot deathmatches disguised as a campaign with videos spliced in.

for the Tournament games, yes. 2K4 has a pretty good Career mode where you draft & manage a team and play through most of the game modes

why wont anyone play Unreal Tournament 4? it's decently fun for an alpha. Nobody is ever really playing though

What's the mod support like? What are some over the top/cool ones.

>As a young'n didn't even realize you could draft from opposing teams
>Just played the entire game with the 60% and less starting choices

Fuck me I was amazed when I picked it up later and discovered that shit.

>alpha
>BUT IT JUST BETA
>I DON'T WANT TO BE ALONE!

because EPIC needs to get their shit together their two flagship games are still in fucking alpha/beta this shit is getting old while other publishers/devs have released completed projects

both UT and Paragon have the quality look to them but feel and play like some shit you'd expect some asshole on Steam greenlight or indie go go to make

try shrooms

I played Toxikk after UT4 and it felt more fun even though the quality felt a little janky.

The current F2P Unreal Tournament is actually sick as fuck, IMO.

How is the story mode for the others then? It has actual level design like a traditional shooter?

For the "Unreal" games, yes.

of course! The first Unreal was quite literally unreal when I first played it. On par with Half-life but with much better atmosphere and level design

just buy the Deal Pack, and mod 99 and 2k4 extensively and have fun playing bots with different mods/mutators. MonsterHunt for 99, and modded invasion, and onslaught for 2k4 are fun.

Wait so you're telling me not only it has it but it's good? I thought these were pure multiplayer games. I played it some at a friend's house back in the mid 2000s and it was a lot of fun but it was straight mp.

ut99

ctf_faceworlds is still the best map and best music

i can't tell you how much time i spent playing that in 2000. i miss those long long nights with that and Q3...

amazing that UT99 and Deus Ex had the same guy doing the music.

>port never...

>4 way CTF
>instagib
>15 bots
>lasershow across the map

Good times

the "tournament" and "championship" games are pure multi focused, Unreal and Unreal II are single player. The latter got a lot of hate but I still enjoy it, and OG Unreal is an absolute classic. I can't believe you didn't know this?

Yeah dude.

I put quite a lot of hours into UT2003 just doing matches with bots because my internet was ass and i couldn't play online and i still had a blast with it.

Yep.

wtf why did they stop then?

I used to love playing Perfect Dark with bots when my friends weren't around. I wish it became a standard.

I can only imagine Unreal was really successful, they even added the multiplayer mode to it, then UT came and was just as successful or more, but for some reason Unreal II didn't get that popular.

>reinstall ut2004 recently
>go godlike for old times sake
>can't get past solo qualifiers
>lower difficulty by one
>can't get past the last level in team qualifiers
>lower difficulty
>ezmode no challenge
>got bored
>deleted

I hate how the teammates are always worse than your enemy team on higher difficulties. Like if I don't go on rampage multikilling everyone my retarded team always drops the ball
I get it, but I hate it

Man I was a huge fan of Unreal back in the day. The hype I had for Unreal II was fucking ridiculous.
Shit dropped and I really enjoyed it despite the ending. Then I found out the rest of the world apparently hated it and they never made another full singleplayer-focused Unreal.

Unfortunately, U2 was outsourced to another dev who had previously made an official map pack/expansion for U1 and a bunch of unimportant adventure games.

I know right? I wish they at least did a current gen remake of the first game or something

them mods

...

...

ut99
ut3

yes. ut3, not ut2003 or 2004. those two fucking "spinoffs" didnt even follow the original formula of partial armor and instead having a unified shield and fucking pills for boost.

ut2k3/4 babies will tell different. fuck em.

>UT3 over anything
is this bait? UT3 was god awful.

all three of them
2k4, 2003, 99

Does the new one have Onslaught yet?

>le hateful contrarian hook
enjoy your (You)

holy shit is this that mod for invasion where you and your team can build defenses and have stat points to boost your fire speed/power etc. and the enemies get insanely stronger than usual. Those were the only online UT2004 games I ever played and it was an absolute blast

What did individual armor parts do?

are any of the steam UTs still active?

for UT99 it's called Decalstay for 2004 Giblife
it's a mutator that allows you to change how long gibs and decals stay on the map.

It's just invasion with the RPG mod and ChaosUT2. There was also "Vehicle invasion" which allowed you to play invasion on Onslaught maps.

They don't use Steamworks servers, doesn't matter

>first time you saw the girl because they were pushing some new engine/gfx
Shit she still doesn't look half bad. Whatever her name was. All I remember about U2 was that the mc was voiced by the guy that did the redguards in Oblivion and that it had a pretty feelsy ending. Also, a black hole gun. Fuck, that was a sweet level.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but U2 was pretty much Mass Effect 1 as an FPS without dialog prompts. And bigger maps. Sadly, no alien ass either, maybe that's why it flopped.

ut99 is the obvious and definitive choice, it also has a great single player.

you can also still find plenty of mp servers online for it, although you'll get your ass thoroughly destroyed.

have some of my crappy gameplay

I fucking love the Flak Cannon.

So the UT games are worth playing even with bots, what about Quake?

You can play Quake 3 Arena with humans for free already, user. Actually, scratch that, you most likely can't. It's good with bots tho.

unreal 2 had really great sound effects and aesthetics

UXMP2 was good too, especially since it was free and the devs did it in their spare time

>, but U2 was pretty much Mass Effect 1 as an FPS without dialog prompts. And bigger maps.
spot on, I miss open world fps/3ps games (no not borderlands)

Quake 1 & 2 have awesome SP. Quake 3 has an SP that's just deatmatch with bots. It's very challenging but short and fun.
>tfw manage to cheese Xaero on nightmare difficulty

Tribes: Vengeance fan? I think I'm like 1 of like 10 people that liked that. And yes, not a great sequel to 2.

UT99 has the best music and maps

UT2004 has the best of everything else

Even Quake 4 was good

UT99

UT2004's teammembers are intentionally retarded on higher difficulties and it's near impossible to win unless you're literally doing 30x more than they are

brother

my fucking nigga, I miss vengeance too

I can't believe they dropped support like that. Levine said they 'pulled a jedi mindtrick on them'

I want that grappling hook so badly

>playing DOM or assault in the singleplayer tournament
robot factory and convoy were awful.

>all those mods and custom maps
>tfw you didn't get them before they were gone

feels bad

sup

>optimisim

HOLY FUCK

I REMEMBER THIS

I WAS BUT A WEE LAD AND DIDN'T REMEMBER THE MOD NAME

THANK YOU BASED GOD

>UT2004 bots r dumb
I eventually made it past the qualifications on Godlike and I was legit carried by the bots.

fucking loved the gravity vortex

Reminder that literally nothing prevents UT2004 from having an alive online community.

1998 :^)

its still alive, and even though I was godlike at the game I haven't played it in 8 years, got obliterated straight up, need to brush the rust off

Does anyone know how to extract mod installers?(umod and u2mod(?) files)

anyone know how I can go about making an invasion server with all this shit? I just bought this for like 4$ from steam sale I played this when i was like 13 and fucking loved it and all the moded guns/sentinels

Yeah I remember this shit, it was fucking great.

I can only guess that the chestplate added defense for shots landing on you chest, thighpads for legs etc...

use this

So did you make any maps Sup Forums? Did you try learning?

Thanks

How is that an improvement on anything? What would a belt even do?

walking-with-stick-in-ass simulator

playmorepromode

OH man! this was FUN i was so excited when i seen this as a lad

As far as I remember, you had the chestplate/thighpads/shield belt for armor, and the (anti)gravity boots for 3 high jumps and no fall damage.

More ammo? maybe the belt is like a wrestling belt so it covers more area?

the quake 3/cpma bots aren't very good at the game, but more than good enough if you never played the game either.

Guilty pleasure, especially the fact it had universal ammo (explosives and plasma energy) and loadouts.

They decided to make Gears of War.

Unreal was fucking brilliant. Quake 2 for interior combat, Unreal for exterior. Half-Life could and still can go fuck itself.

MEET YOUR EXECUTIONER

Increase the player movement speed and it becomes vastly more enjoyable. The treacle walk speed in Unreal 2 was what put me off.

Quake still stands up. The Arcane Dimensions mod is magnificent. Quake 2 is ...different. Still very good with terrific music and a satisfying campaign. Never liked Quake 3 as I had UT99. Quake 4 just sucks dick.

Get Quake, Quake 2, Hexen 2 and SiN.

FLESH IS A DESIGN FLAW

It provided an all around energy shield.

How many still play the Unreal games?

I've shat on UT3 for years but heavily modded it's playable. Replace the shitty gears of war characters with community ones, replace the shitty console UI with the PC community one, ditch the bland maps for the community ones. It's not half bad in the end if you can be bothered fixing it. Still has piss poor performance though.
