So we all agree this franchise is finally dead, right?
So we all agree this franchise is finally dead, right?
its still in beta user
i dont agree, sorry bro
/thread
Not yet. It's not over yet, OP.
not by a chance faggot. FFXV made me hopeful that the FF franchise will finally be back on track and even be better than its previous games.
...
Who lied to you? Even as polarizing as XV seems to be, the series is in a great place to move forward. Hopefully they don't spend another 10 fucking years making XVI though. I know they're gonna milk the fuck out of XV for at least a few years easy though
Yeah, I'd say so.
Or at least Square's ability to release a coherent and well told story is dead.
After XII muddled mess of a story where the protagonist changed mid-development, XIII's complete train wreck, and XV furiously shitting the bed in the second half, I have absolutely no hope for XVI's being even remotely decent. X's story was melodramatic and wanky, but at least it was all there.
It's definitely in a better place than it was five years ago.
People keep paying for Final Fantasy and we will keep making them - SquareEnix
I'll agree XII wasn't the best story by any means, but the pace change to political drama from the usual "save the world" plot with a cute romance tucked neatly into it was a welcome change to the series.
Honestly, if they can take their heads out of their asses and actually digest the negative feedback properly, they can do something great with XVI.
Out of curiosity, has anyone ever been able to play 13 on PC without any FPS issues?
>we all agree
The answer to this retarded type of questions is NO and it always will be.
I actually agree. For all its flaws, it feels like a step in the right direction. I was afraid they'd be too proud to pull out of the ff13 rabbithole.
It's just that its a very small step forward, when the game usually made strides in various ways. It's definitely not what it used to be, but I'm hopeful that maybe one in every three FF RPGs is pretty good.
I hate myself for this but I kinda hope that XVI pulls a IX and returns to the "medieval but with some steampunk tech" setting from the earlier games.
I'd appreciate that. IX was a really good game, and a welcome change from all the fucking depressing ass MCs they were producing up until then.
It's been dead since FFX.
They need to do a return to roots game a la ffix.
Something that doesn't take itself to seriously.
None of this emo/futuristic/eurostile font bullshit of ffxii/ffxiii/ffxv
well, ffxii wasn't too bad, but whatever.
They stopped caring about FF's quality a long time ago. Maybe now they can revive one of their dead IPs and make something fucking different for once.
Ariana will revive it. She will be Lightning 2.0.
>mfw they actually replaced that line with "alright guys let's go fucking tear Sephiroth a new asshole" in the remake
Holy shit Nomura, how did he get away with that?
>dead
>just had the best selling FF game in history
>FF14 is the most popular subscription MMORPG on the market
I'd hate to see what you think is "alive" then.
> we all agree
>Sup Forums
Good way to end your own thread.
And no.
I also enjoyed XV and hated XIII. franchise is fine by me
>tfw last FF I played was 10 until I played 15
>Wouldn't have bought FFXV if it were the same formula
Can't imagine I'm the only one, I think Square did the right thing changing up the gameplay. There will always be Dragon Quest for you diehard oldschool menu players.
The series itself will probably survive but the spirit in which the earlier games was made is gone.
>>Wouldn't have bought FFXV if it were the same formula
That's square's purpose for Final Fantasy.
People who cry "I want muh classic final fantasy" are hypocrites.
The design philosophy of this franchise is to never do the same thing twice.
Every game has a new battle system that experiments with traditional combat systems to create something new.
Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't, but i'm glad that they're trying.
It shows that they're still willing to take chances and move forward.
Yeah, this is true, to some degree at least. They're all about changing things up, which is important, but they definitely had the same battle system for years on end. What they usually changed was the stat and ability progression systems. The battle system the same from like IV to IX. They didn't try something entirely new until X.
it's a game where it's definitely easy to pinpoint its faults, but was it fun to play? Definitely even better than some of its older entries
Fucking this
Having the same turn base formula gets tiring. Sure each game does a slight take on it, but all around it's the same.
Even as a kid who played up to FF8 I wanted to see the series to try going full action and see how it turns out. Took 7 games to get there but hey it's here and it's pretty great. Hope to see later entries make improvements however.
FF XV Broke my heart but I did enjoy the Bromance...
Still have to get all the quests , dungeons , fish & recipes
Except 90% of the actual criticism surrounding XV has nothing to do with the fact that the combat is real time and everything to do with the fact that the story is a mess, the characters are two dimensional, the world is barren, the sidequests are dull and repetitive, the balance is fucked...
Of course. That's because all the oldfags crying about turnbased combat being the one true way were actual just a very vocal minority. Plus, the gameplay is actually good, if a little redundant sometimes. If nothing else, it's pretty fucking fun, but you can't tell nostalgiafags anything.
I think it has so much to do with the fact that almost all FF titles have a long, detailed story with interwoven character fleshing. With FFXV all of this is so lacking it barely even feels like a FF game at all. It pisses you off even more when you watch a cutscene and you can just feel that there should have been much more to it.
I liked FFXV but honestly it's an unfinished mess and anyone who says any different is delusional.
The FF franchise died when they attempted to kill FFXI in the hopes that everyone would move over to FFXIV.
Maybe the next game will be good if they manage to put a good director in charge of their next project and then don't take him off the team mid-development.
