I know the vive is pretty much better than the rift, but I am getting a great deal on the rift cv1 for $350.
But after seeing demos of room scale on the vive, the actual headset being better visually in terms of fov and better support through steam vs facebook. Is it worth trying to find a preowned vive headset?
Originally I was going to use it for cockpit style sims(racing/flight) so I think the rift is enough, but is VR good enough now or is it something that's cool for 2 weeks then you go back to playing standard games.
Had my Vive since April. I still use it pretty often.
VR won't replace regular gaming, but it's a neat supplement to it. Wait for a $200 price drop before getting the Vive, though. New controller should be coming out sometime later this year too.

but have an offer for a cv1 rift @ $350 which would benefit me greatly in sim racing

Why would you want to look like that guy, OP? You don't want to look like that guy.

Rift user here. I haven't tried the Vive to compare but it seems the touch controllers are pretty great. Finger gestures are pretty easy to use for button pressing and expression in the games that support it so far.
Though Vive obviously wins out for the roomscale stuff. A third camera is $80 and needs usb cables space. Vive's lighthouse boxes sound a lot more practical.

>Just finished pic related and really enjoyed it. >Environments looked amazing and the headtracking was used in creative ways. >Sup Forums will never accept it because 'lol facebook' or the meme that all VR must be first person to 'benefit' from it.

I'm going to play RE7 in theater mode VR, I don't give a fuck, also going to replay it when real VR comes to it, looks spooky as shit.

but the question is... is a rift at $350 or trying to find a preowned vive set at say $600-650(maybe 550 if lucky) the better bang for the buck
Planning on picking up a gen 2 or 3 headset , but want something now

I think that now the touch controllers are out, you can expect motion controllers to become a standard in games by oculus and VR in general. Touch controllers are $200 brand new, so it's still cheaper than a Vive even.
There's still the issue with roomscale though. You need a minimum 3x3 foot space for that.
