I downloaded DCSS a couple weeks ago and got most of the way through the tutorial, got very excited about it, and had to stop playing. Haven't touched it since then. Motivate me to pick it up again. I can see myself getting very into this game. DCSS thread, I guess.

Play cataclysm DDA instead.
no. The new devs are garbage and erode the whole point of the roguelike. Play brogue instead.
Why would you ever want to play CDDA?
If it's free and can run on a computer that can barely run a browser then I'll look into it.
>Motivate me to pick it up again.
Well, last time you played it, you got very excited. So excited you had to stop.
What the fuck do you want from us?
It was 6am and I had work the next day, I didn't want to put it down but at a certain point I have to attend to my life. My life is really busy these days and anytime I indulge in leisure activities (namely reading and vidya) I feel guilty, like I should be doing any number of things I should be doing. If I can get past that, I get option paralysis and end up on Sup Forums. Basically just want to hear cool shit from people who like the game to get me interested in playing it. At this point it's getting late and I should probably read instead but hey, doesn't cost anything to ask for help.
Is that your screenshot? Getting to lair (and beyond) is one of the biggest challenges for new players, as the early game is ruthless.
Maybe some advice on how to go about doing things would help motivate you, as it might inspire new strategies?
Take a look at the roguelike general on /vg/, they've got an extensive pasta for lots of roguelikes. DCSS is the most discussed game there, and there are players who regularly get winning streaks with incredibly difficult race/background combos.
Nah, just something I pulled of google. As someone that's new to the genre, is it worth browsing that general? It it as bad as the other generals are? In 2012 I spent a decent amount of time in /srg/ and /dsg/ and those threads were awful. I enjoy /dfg/ at times but rarely ever actually play that game.

tfw
Feel like I need to leave my damn house to get anything fun done. Tomorrow I have an obligation somewhere comfy and I'm arriving 4 hours early so I can finally read. Gonna grab a new book at random out of the stack and put it in my bag and that's what I'm reading. Can't do it with vidya, where I'm going I can't use my laptop easily + shit wifi and I'd probably get made fun of for playing games there
For advice? Sure.
If anything the pastas are worth checking out.
Nice, probably will do tomorrow. Thanks for the help man
/rlg/ is pretty alright. Its got a lot more discussion of the games at hand then other generals, but theres still some shitposters like tummyposters or Amy.
How does this game compare to ADOM or ToME?
The game's still getting updated, but are the developers still removing stuff and adding new things at a 2:1 ratio?
>be worshiping Xom
>Xom is very entertained with me
>grants divine gifts to spread his power
>17 grapes (god gift)
Play an old build of dcss if anything. The new game sucks.
It's much more streamlined now. There's good and bad come in with that but it's probably the most focused and least arcane roguelike out apart from the doom one. It's a shame because I liked the game more as a hot mess.
Yes.
It is far less forgiving.
If you don't want to get good then play wizard and spam mephitic cloud for a chance to get into mid game. What do you think the orb of zot tastes like user?
>tummyposters
tummyposters?
There are threads on /vg/ for this game.
Play a Minotaur Berserker, or a mage or somesorts. And take things slowly. It's a very fun game.
