Gladio has a great strength stat.
Ignis is just overall versatile.

Promto has the least amount of HP by far, his pistols do shit for damage, and when monsters are attacking everyone he's the first to get close to death, or just plain die. Is there a way to stop him from being so fucking useless?

Utility, Starshell and Piercer help set up for big offensive moves.

Machinery is actually pretty useful and strong if you upgraded them, his gravisphere technique is nice but I always worry about it freezing my game since it's happened twice. Ignis is definitely the best though, he has all the best abilities and techniques.
