I just realized that there are few explicit East Asian characters in video games. Let alone protagonists. Most Japanese games either take place in the West, or have an anime art style that makes their race ambiguous at best.
The only examples I can think of are Mortal Kombat series, and games set in historical Japan or China.

Nioh has Japanese characters but an English protagonist.
Yakuza.

Street Fighter has tons of Hong Kong and Japanese characters, but almost none of them look it. Ryu for example looks like Guts.
Mortal Kombat in contrast, the characters actually look like their nationality.

Mei Ling from Metal Gear?
Aforementioned anime art style. Though it's an 80's manga style, it does still render their ethnicity really ambiguous. Before watching the show, I thought they were all Americans.
