Game Magazines were more concerned with key-jangling modern tech than they were with quality games, even back then.

Everyone knew the Gameboy tech was out of date. No consumer gave a fuck.

It sold well because it had Tetris, Mario, Zelda, and eventually Pokemon. Also, it didn't have an abysmal battery life like the competition.
It was still a piece of shit when it came to hardware though.

If you wanted compare the physical devices, then yeah, it's accurate. Comparing them based on the quality of the screen is irrelevant though, since consumers buy consoles because they want to play games, not brag about the hardware specs.

Even back in the day there was this massive hateboner for anything Nintendo by gaming "publications", especially when compared to Western games or even other Japanese shit like Sega/Sony. I remember how loudly some of them (like GI and EGM) bitched about Pokémon and how it would NEVER last, and how even back then games with shit gameplay got a pass for MUH GRAFIX.

Which makes it even funnier that so many of these same hacks (or their wife's kids who got the same job as them from nepotism) are currently lamenting Nintendo's dip in quality and pine for the nostalgia of the old days they used to shit on.

PSP not being in the same tier as the DS is a crime. the PSP was basically a modern mobile phone in terms of functionality. When it came out that fucker could do everything. Radio, skype, and of course play games.

If you had a 1.5 you could do EVERYTHING with the kernel exploit, I still have a 1000 sitting around my house somewhere with 3.55 m33-6. And it was all free. Unless you were in that short period where you needed lumines to downgrade, I guess.

It was absolutely as good, if not better than the DS in their respective times (2007-2009)
