So, I recently lost both my legs and I am now retired and finding a lot of time in my hands.
So I thought I would catch up on Metal Gear. I haven't played the games since I think the NES or maybe the playstation, so I'm kinda hazy on the overall chronology of the series now.
What is the best order to play the games for the story? I started Revengeance a few days back when it was on sale, and it inspired me to play the rest of the game.
Always play them in release order. Playing them in chronological order is just gonna make you realize how fucked up the franchise is.
Justin Bailey
Fair point, but fucked up how?
Adrian Reyes
Retcons, noticable plot holes, asspulls, Kojima Logicâ„¢ and inconsistencies here and there
Dominic Johnson
The whole story is full of retcons because kojima keeps writing himself into a corner out of trying to make every single game the last in the series.
Andrew Flores
Release order is best because of how the gameplay (mostly) evolves over time. The franchise is split between games where Solid Snake is the lead vs. Big Boss as the lead. MGS 3, Peace Walker, and V all involve Big Boss, while MGS, MGS2, MGS4, and the original Metal Gear 1+2 involve Solid Snake.
If you have a PS3, just get the Legacy Collection since it has every MG game except V. If you only have a 360, get the HD Collection and emulate MGS. V has a great PC port (as does Rising) if your computer is good enough.
The original Metal Gear 1 and 2 are a little archaic and can be skipped since you get most of their plot explained in MGS, but are still fun.
Brayden Lewis
Ah, right, I was aware of that. Doesn't really bother me that much, since I am not going to be taking it seriously, since Kojima never seemed to be either, so all in good fun. I'll play the games on release order.
>If you have a PS3, just get the Legacy Collection since it has every MG game except V. If you only have a 360, get the H Collection and emulate MGS. I have both 360 and PS3, and I can order either of them to my local library, is one clearly superior to the other or does it not matter much?
>V has a great PC port (as does Rising) if your computer is good enough. Yeah, I was playing Revengeance on PC.
Caleb Green
The legacy collection is better since it's basically the same but has all the games except V, get V on PC or something
Justin Evans
If the weird story doesn't bother you that much then it's all good, gameplay is topnotch so go for it
William Sanders
Sorry about your legs user, play the franchise in order of release.

>I am now retired and finding a lot of time in my hands. How does breaking your legs make you retired? And if youre so retired, how did you type this all out?
Got a handler??
Leo Bennett
Alright, thanks.
I'll walk it off ...When I get my robot legs.
Thanks for all the replies.

>What is the best order to play the games for the story? Release order. This applies to every single franchise. You can skip Portable Ops and the two ACID games.
Military is one way, law enforcement as well if it's in the job.
Xavier Cox
>finding a lot of time in my hands good that you haven't lost your sense of humor m8
Chase Edwards
I hope you'll get bionic legs one day user ! As for your question release order is the best way to play;

>I'll walk it off ...When I get my robot legs. Sorry about your legs it must suck so much I can't even imagine. Still, keep this in mind, modern prosthetics are getting better and better each year so be hopeful and get fucking jacked with your upper body. Also, ladies will love the fuck out of you if you keep being happy besides your situation.
I did actually install E.Y.E shortly after my legs stopped being OK.
Julian Phillips
Make sure to play the 2D games on MSX and GB, they're quite underrated (except the first one, it's still kind of bad)
Jordan Adams
How about Deus Ex?
Daniel Brooks
>I recently lost both my legs
Hahahaha Americans
Justin Martinez
Hmm... Might have to look into emulating them. Hadn't even thought about that, thanks for pointing that out.
Charles Sanders
how did you lose your legs?

Jonathan Roberts
Try Crypt of the NecroDancer. The music is so catchy, i feel like getting up and start dan...oh...
Chase Foster
Play MG (MSX, not NES) and if it's too shit I won't blame you for skipping to MG2. Definitely play the latter though, it's one of the best games in the series. Also check out Ghost Babel on Game Boy Color, even though it's noncanon it's an alternate sequel to MG2 that plays really well.

Never even heard of that one, I'll ask if my friend has it on flashcart, so I can play it on my Gameboy.
Matthew Sanders
>he hasn't heard of the 2nd best gameboy game ever made
