>Only played BN1, was okay, too distracted by Mega Man Zero to play the rest of the series >Mostly prefer sidescrolling action Mega Man games and Legends >Command Mission was pretty cool >Favorite handheld RPG is Golden Sun 1&2
MegaMan.EXE seems like a pretty big guy, otherwise he wouldn't have an anime and show up in the top 5 of MvC polls. Feel free to hit me with lore reasons on why he's cool, and StarForce too if you're so inclined.
If you thought BN1 was "okay" then you'll probably enjoy BN2 and 3. The first one is very lackluster.
Noah Wilson
the most common response you will get in regard for this series is that the game gets a spike in quality in 2, arguably the best one in the series. so if you thought 1 was okay, go for 2, it improves alot of the systems and makes the combat better. personal ranking goes 3=2>6>5>1>4
Benjamin Stewart
That's what I've been told so far. Mind you, it's been years since I played the first one. How does BN2 improve on the first game?
Alexander Ortiz
I never liked star force, the battle system was just worse in every respect than BN in my opinion. BN is a great series of decently unique RPGs, not to mention my personal favorite character designs of any mega man series. I'd love to see megaman.exe get more recognition, seeing him in mvci would be really cool.
Jack Morgan
2 biggest ones are the * code and the style changes. * codes can be used with any letter code and style change gives you extra abilities depending on your play style (using lots of chips give you custom, using buster alot gives you guts) games longer as well, gives you a post game to let you fight harder bosses
Jack Lewis
I agree 100% with this list
Josiah Johnson
Now you don't need a chip to run away from battles, the "armors" were replaced by actual transformations called styles that give different abilities, the chip variety is better and of course
Jacob Williams
BN1 is unpolished. You don't start seeing the good stuff until BN2.
Daniel Davis
basically summed up the order, BN 1 was very much a experimental title to test the waters and is incredibly basic, but it got enough reception that CC gave it a proper chance with 2 and 3, then started milking it after that, especially the case with 4 which is just a mess in everything except in its combat system. 6 was a pretty nice send-off thankfully and is about on par with 3 if not 2. Depending on how much you like the transformation in it.
As for SF, it was CC's attempt to get back the BN fans but done poorly, from that shitty "retcon" cross over game to the crappy DS combat system it started off really bad, but slowly improved and by 3 was pretty good, just in time for CC to gut it.
But the worst par of both BN and SF is that you will be going through about 1-4 hrs of "tutorial mode" where everything moves incredibly slow, doesnt hit hard and just overall mind-numbing, specially after youve beaten one of the games already.
James Watson
Reminder that Bug Style is the best style.
also >no game which uses MMBN combat >effectively real-time card game with positioning
Kayden Parker
Okay, sounds pretty good anons. Appreciated the explanations and visuals, I think I'll try out BN2 soon.
>"retcon" cross over game You mean BN5 and Boktai? I've always wondered about the Boktai series. Isn't it required to have a second player or something?
Ayden Long
No, though there is some unique chips i think if you ran one of the SF games or something with boktai in the GBA slot.
Basically for Sf1 they rewrote BN1 and re-released it to bridge the games via timeman bullshit.
>we will never get new Battle Network game with online play
Chase Price
>I seriously hope you don't use an alphabet soup folder
Eli Sullivan
I only played BN 1 and 4 and the Star Force games. Star Force 1 is pretty okay and 2 and 3 are really fun
David Martinez
The Battle Network series is fantastic, great gameplay and a fun cast, story is bit obvious at times and it has some occasional dumb minigames but its a blast
Star Force is fucking trash
Kevin Perry
>I only played BN 1 and 4
Hudson Carter
>I only played BN 1 and 4 and the Star Force games Do you hate yourself or something?
Jace Cox
You can play BN6 online though with Hamachi and VBA. Works pretty well even if you can get a reduced speed against high ping opponents.
Wyatt Thompson
Revolution 60 is the best Battle Network game.
Adrian Howard
>I only played the worst BN games >SF was okay though
i mean yeah SF got its shit together after 1 like BN did but you are missing out on the best of the series by only playing BN 1 and 4
>dumb minigames
Nowhere is this more obnoxious than BN4
William Adams
Which one was the one with Kendo? I remember being stuck on that for hours as a kid
Nicholas Ward
I got 4 for my birthday and bought 1 after I was done to get into the series but I kind of forgot about the games
Ryder Baker
Im pretty sure that was 4, if not it was 5.
Dylan Butler
Honestly, I had minimal hopes when I heard that it plays like BN, but then I saw some gameplay video. It's a game for retards.
Ayden Walker
The one with waves of statues coming at you? That was in 5. It was the only dumb minigame in that one, but it's up there as one of the worst.
Jaxon Evans
meant for
Liam Hernandez
Whichever it is its probably my worst memory of the whole series
Luis Turner
If anyone cares, some Jap is making a fangame with BN's gameplay. For now it's still all beta but there's already quite the content and luckily the dude likes his project and updates relatively frequently, don't expect the game to be completed anytime soon since the dude really wants to pack this game with content but he's also busy playing Pokémon and MH.
Honestly, I wouldn't mind it if you didn't have to hit 100 statues without getting hit a single time. And if the directions you had to face weren't diagonal.
Adrian Thompson
Translation when? Having a guide it's fine but I wanna read shit. Also, S code is easy modo here too
Noah Allen
>MMBN where you play as a waifu.exe Why didnt Capcom think of this instead of Star Force
Jordan Hernandez
please don't tell me these are some 2hou characters.
Nicholas Diaz
They are. What, don't tell me you get triggered by them in 2017
Robert Roberts
>Translation when?
The dude behind the guide and videos is really into the game, your best hope is that he decides to fully translate the thing. Sadly 99,9% of doujin games never get translated.
Evan Richardson
>Capcom >being smart >ever
Only thing they know is to milk a series to death or to drop a series that shows promise cause it would take effort.
Asher Diaz
I don't mind them being in their shmup games, but forcing them into other series looks like autism.
Jaxon Powell
Who else has one of these?
Joshua Perry
>all those joints
ruined the figure
Matthew Cook
Hey, I'm glad EXE finally got a figure with proper articulation.
Logan Gomez
Still to this day that riddle on the ship BN5 will never not be retarded
Christian Walker
I do, and I absolutely love it.
Carter Brown
Consider it more like they are free characters to use that are actually very well known. It's the safest way to do a game without getting a C&D.
Blake Hill
This one?
Jordan Torres
YES
Noah Wood
DELETE THIS
Thomas Jenkins
...
Samuel Fisher
Am i a retard for not being able figuring this shit on my own or was this legit bullshit?
its fucking retarded but the night part is bullshit
Jaxson Carter
I just replayed the game a month ago and I was still stumped as an adult. I had to use a guide.
Zachary Jenkins
Weren't people saying that was localization error?
Jackson Hernandez
i honestly dont know, but it wouldnt surprise me since BN was riddled with that shit, but yeah i had to look it up purely cause of the night bullshit cause that made no fucking sense
Kayden Scott
I played MMBN5 AGES ago, and I remember some riddle really pissing me off. I had to look up the answer on gamefaqs in the middle of the night, wearing only my underwear, while on the verge of tears
Nolan Edwards
>MegaMan accessed the mystery data The mystery data was a virus!
Ryan Young
>Played 3-6 >Always procrastinate when it comes to playing the first two.
Might Dust off my 3DS Later and See if I can finally get this Custom Virtual Console fixed so I can re-play this series.
>mfw they still do Battle Network events and stuff in Japan but there will never be another game
John Bennett
This always seems to happen after I get an encounter right next to the data.
Jason Reyes
My Negro
Mason Bailey
This always baffles me. Such an active fanbase and Capcom does absolutely nothing other than licensing out some merch? Not even a pity manga?
Lucas Young
That would require Capcom put in some real effort, which they expended on SF
>no more MMZ >no more BN >not even SF
best we got was a silly SFxMM cross over fangame hat someone else did. As always, fuck CC
Juan Collins
It's something you litterally have to write down to understand at the age they aim at at least.
I remember trying to do this mentally as a kid and I didn't have internet at the time to check up on a guide. I ended up seeing a guidebook in a gamestop that same week so I wrote that down and continued that way.
It's not hard but it's fucking stupid.
Sebastian Davis
>Style changes are in >You have some sort of freedom that lets you save them and interchange them even during battle
That's neat
Cooper Bailey
And the west never even got that remake either.
Xavier Hall
to be fair didnt all the BN have some inane word puzzle or riddle at some point or another, kind of recall BN3's secret zone being pretty prone to that bullshit. Granted none of these compare to 4/5's "puzzles" but it seemed like some running bullshit in the series.
Blake Wood
neat, still better than nothing, and I've been waiting for a Battle Network clone
Jayden Hughes
they had a pretty good manga run back in the day, made bass the greatest character of all time. all i want is a compilation of all the games but that will probably NEVER happen. does anyone know what the BN team did after starforce? would love to see what they did afterwards
Easton Moore
We don't need another BN it died like a hero and I wanna keep it that way
Starforce and ZX are legit complaints but since Crapcom likes to play at safe it wont happen anytime soon
Blake Reyes
FUCK THIS
Isaac Hill
>All these anons hating on starforce. Starforce was fun as fuck, 2 might have been lackluster, but 3 was legit great. Eventhen the only thing that really fucked with 2 was it's godawful encounter rate for the rest it was fine.
Levi Turner
i dont even mean another BN sequel, i just want the BN system back. Just as i want the Z series level of gameplay back. SF can stay gone just cause i hated its system even after all the improvements, unless they used Sf as an excuse to brind back BN's system, but thad probably turn off the 10 people who liked SF
Logan Jackson
Favorite soul/cross/style?
Charles Perry
Hey! Hope you remembered to set up your chips!
Thomas Brown
I've fully played a couple of the BNs, and snippets of most of the others, but they aren't fresh in my mind. I want to play them again but should I play through 1 and 4?
Alexander King
Yes. 1's not bad, it's just barebones compared to later entries. You need to experience the pain that is 4.
Landon Morales
1/4 can easily be skipped as 2 pretty much recalls most of the plot of 1 and is the overall better game and 4 is just one big filler game of bad tl, bad plot setup, and really just plain bad overall unless you like tons of awful mini-games and sidequests that you have to repeat 1-4 times cause fucking multiple playthroughs
Robert Moore
Are these the BN2 viruses, or the BN3 viruses? Both games had similar enemies in their end game areas.
I think elecball + ice stage handled them in BN2, and grass stage + black bomb in BN3. Fuck, it has been so long, but there are fragments of strategies still left in my mind.
Ayden Sanchez
a special Bass chapter came out last year or something, I think the manga ended with a pretty cool fight
BN2 had this one dungeon where you had to get missing words or something and some of the puzzles seemed to make no sense. I forget if that was terribly translated or if the concept itself just didn't work when taken out of Japanese.
I completed 2 twice for 100% on both files and never realized how high the encounter rate was. The only time I think I noticed it was in that Bermuda Maze place and on the Astro Wave/Sky Wave/whatever it was called where you go to other countries. I hated going to those two places.
Gabriel Bell
>go into that thread expecting a manga dump >get highlights of BN4's amazing navi fights
