A teacher at my high school quit in the middle of the semester to go work on this shit ha ha ha
I remember the entire history department faculty being super salty and just cycling substitutes until they found a replacement, what a shit show

It was great playing with other people in its high time with every class being fun and diverse. Now it's completely dead with you having to make AI heroes. It's still fun but I hope you didn't buy it full price from the site.

Nothing man.

Would've been more fun around 10 years ago.

You can still play it with other people, nothing is forcing you to use Heroes other than your lack of friends.

You're in for 4 grand adventures, the plight of a dissheveled race, the plague of notchina, the unmaking, and subsequent making, of a god... and Eye of the North soooo a Winter Wedding and some Race fluff.

Which campaign are you starting with?

Factions>Prophecies=Nightfall>An old turd>Eye of the North

Most diverse set of skills available in a mmo ever
Don't ever stop trying new skills even if you give in and copy some meta build off the wiki
The amount of potential synergistic skills btfo every other mmo, gw2 is a pale shadow in comparison

Game Play wise I suggest starting as a ritualist and doing factions campaign its much shorter than the other two and rits can get by most content by spirit spam, after that try another class or do more campaigns

A really robust skill system that allows you to play in a stupid number of ways.

A cool story.

A really nice party system that rewards you for making it harder for yourself.

Very annoying scorpion thingys.

We started on prophecies but we're not that far in so we could probably start again. Is there any reason to play factions first apart from it being shorter?

You can't start with EoTN and Prophecies is the best one to start with first time around

Factions is only good because its the fastest path to 20, Nightfall is pretty restrictive because of its story and the hardest once you reach Elona imo

And make sure you have the music turned up, its good shit

If you can stick through with Prophecies, go for it. But just to forewarn you, Prophecies has the slowest start. You can jump into all of the campaigns around the time you hit 20 in them. To provide a point of reference: this is Lion's Arch in Prophecies.

not as far as i recall, even though you should play prophecies and factions before nightfall as some story elements build upon these two.
god i miss these series so much, i remember trying to power through gate of madness for a solid 2 months when i was twelve because shiro was fucking our butts so hard and nobody knew what to do.
it really is a shame that there are no private servers for this, it was a fucking gem during its prime.

how do you reach lion's arch at lvl 20? unless eotn made it easier to level in prophecies since i never played that, at the time i played i was lvl 20 around the time or just before i beat the doppelgänger in elona.

Well you can travel to the other campaigns after a few missions/tutorial factions is considered the shortest and easiest of the three and gives you the option to get maxed armor/weapons much faster than prophecies with the run to drek something forge
Prophecies is really fucking long so don't be afraid to swap to another campaign with the same character then come back to it with more skills later

Back end of crystal desert is level 20 in Prophecies.
Unless user just means you can go to the other zones when you get to Lion's arch.

I am dumb and sick and not writing good. MOST of the campaigns let you jump in at the 20 spot. Prophecies lets you jump in at LA. It probably takes the longest of all the jump in points to get to LA, but you're still nowhere near the 20 point...

Yeah I don't know what I was thinking.

That was kind of a general quality ranking. Factions lets you hit max level sooner, has a pretty quick-paced story, and is definitely the hardest of all the campaigns if you're just starting out (Difficulty is a plus for me), so there's a lot of action there.

Prophecies' pace is an absolute slog. This can't be understated. It probably tells the coolest story but it takes you so fucking long to get there and the difficulty is all over the place with no logical increments. It was also the first campaign, so it's a bit rough around the edges in some places.

Nightfall probably has the most polish and it introduces Heroes, which are customizable henchmen which really steps up the quality of the game as far as not playing with a full party. Your NPC teammates suddenly go from absolutely useless and mostly a hindrance to actually carrying you through rough spots in difficulty. The story is so-so, but the endgame content is superb. If the story and setting for the first 80% of the game was better it would rank equal with factions.

EOTN is an embarrassment that was supposed to tie the franchise in to GW2 and opens up all kinds of shitty plot elements and stupid skills and just throws balance out the window. It was a gratuitous, rushed, unpolished cash grab that you should only finish if you're a completionist or want to see the story through to the end.

Like others before me have said, You can hop into other campaigns after a critical plot point in whatever campaign you start in, and you'll land halfway through whatever campaign you chose. You can hop back and forth for free and all your progress in each campaign is saved, so feel free to explore.

That was more what I was going for. It has also been absolute ages since I started my Prophecies character...

The main point was to warn user that Prophecies is slow as fuck. I just goofed in doing it.

That being said. user, if you are reading this, starting in Prophecies does have its perks. It's simple to backtrack to the other starting zones, but getting all the way back to Ascalon from Lion's Arch is quite the hassle. You don't need to do this for the story, but you do in onrder to obtain some skills and map completion.

that makes more sense. i forgot about that jumping around though anyway since the last time i've played gw was like seven years ago.
i've tried getting into 2 a few months ago but it was so different from the old games that i couldn't bring myself to it.

Why haven't they switched this to f2p? Already has a shop interface and not like they are making big bucks off sales anymore.

How is anyone in this thread saying that Nightfall is reasonable or more reasonable than EotN?
That xpac is a bigger shitfest than EotN.
Like let's leave out the fact it added heroes which started the community segregation culminating in EotN allowance of 7 heroes in a party, and even the fact dervish were a blight upon everything the game holds dear; even in PvP. Oh and
>paragon

Like if you start a character in Nightfall prepare for agony as you literally have to farm your way up to certain levels or reputation statuses. But even if you say "oh it's not THAT bad because I transferred my character!"
Remember the main camp and the dozens of bullshit quests around it?
>RUN TO THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE
>DO IT AGAIN
>AGAIN
Not to mention the horrible quality of missions, like the second to last mission where the lich or shiro could bug out forcing a restart. Or the garbage final boss you have to fight.
>the whole plot
hahahaa

Factions > Proph >>> EotN >>>>>>>> Nightfall

That would involve the current devs acknowledging it exists, and making their old product compete against their floundering current one.

At this point any support for GW1 is too much in Anet's view, I imagine.

late to an amazing game :|

Nightfall had the best plot.

They keep kind of acknowledging plot points from it in the current stuff in gw2, buts it's never anything gameplay wise and the plot points that do come up are either irrelevant or ruined

did anyone know the guild BAS-British Assassination Squad?

>and Eye of the North soooo a Winter Wedding and some Race fluff
nigga

Norn in EotN are the best thing in fantasy ever.

>final battle, last stand against the evil threatening to destroy the world
>dwarves bring an army
>asura bring an army
>humans bring an army
>charr bring an army
>norn: "uhh, yeah, so I wanted to come alone because otherwise this shit gets boring, but my little sister was pestering me to come too and I guess she brought her boyfriend so I suppose this will be a tad easier than expected
I fucking love GW1 norn

>Is there any reason to play factions first apart from it being shorter?
It's for power gaming reasons

You get easy access to 2 monk heroes and factions has one of the best monk hero elites for easy group building available early (independence day laser). Once you get that every content will be that much less painful.

>dwarves bring an army
nigga

Dwarves curse their entire race to become stone to give everyone else a fighting chance.

EOTN, at least the first half is mandatory to build a good hero party. What you do once you get all your hero is your business, but EOTN should be done asap just for the extra heroes alone.

Why don't you play it and find out, you faggot fucking autist.

I was simplifying in part for simplicity's sake, in part for humour, but yes, I know, you're right

kinda makes the norn look even more awesome and a bit dickish

As far as races in Guild Wars go, I'd agree with you on the Norn being pretty cool.

I mean seriously what're the other options, most of the races suck dick. Asura are literally gnomes, Sylvari are elves, dwarves are dwarves etc.
Like if I had to name the cool races it'd literally be
>Charr (GW1 charr, GW2 is irrelevant and tainted them)
>Tengu
And that's literally it. So yeah, Norn are neat.

man the tengu were cool as heck
