Good graphix and great music

Fun levels and some pretty challening sprites that were mostly optional

Water spraying was a pretty interesting gimmick but there was still good ol' platforming

Everyone hated Sunshine when it came out.

I don't know where all this love came from.

It came out 15 years ago

The generation who had it as their first game is old enough to be nostalgic for it.

>fucking loved sunshine since it released
>can't mention it without triggering everyone who quickly start shitting on it

I don't get the hate. It's my favorite Mario platformer. Super comfy music and atmosphere. Tight controls. Water/sludge mechanic is fun. Looked fucking beautiful for its time. What gives?

I never got the hate either. It has some of the best physics of any 3D Mario game too.

It's a great game and it has one of the best settings in a Nintendo game.

The flaws (that really only surface if you're a completionist) are problematic, but they are blown out of proportion because Nintendo games are usually flawless otherwise.

I loved it and this is the first time I'm hearing about hate for it. What kind of things do they hate exactly?

That's the thing. They never list any real specifics. It usually just boils down to "go play galaxy it's better".

Here's a great analysis if you're bored

basically, camera issues, blue coins, and pachinko

Basically they claim that the levels are too flat and the hover breaks everything. So that Galaxy is better because you're on a straight line.

Same thing happened with Mario 64. The game is mediocre. aLttP and SMB3 are also guilty, they're mediocre but considered the best by nostalgic idiots in their 20s

I want another tropical vacation themed 3D Mario game.

Fuck off Nintendo is shit go play Pii u

They polished the mario 64 control to the perfection.
And then ruined it with that water thing

>Love it when I first played it
>It's a fucking chore to want to give a fuck about playing it now.

maybe I'm just kind of over videogames now. I love certain ones only and going back to some just seems a chore.

Same. Especially gamecube stuff. I loved it and played it a bunch until a couple years ago, now going back to anything on it is really tough

>What gives?
It wasn't a straight sequel to Super Mario 64

I love it too and I especially love working fludd into jump combos and shit to get around quickly. I'll never understand why people say it sucks, or say that the parts without fludd were the only good parts

Keep in mind I still like this game and I still enjoy it. That said,

-Blue coins in general. They replaced shine sprites that could have went to actual levels.
-Tracking down said blue coins is a pain because the game only tells you the amount of blue coins you got from the level and not which ones you already have.
-It has less levels compared to Super Mario 64. 7 main worlds to 64's 15,
-The cutscenes you can't skip when you see them the first time.
-I don't dislike him personally but it introduced Bowser Jr. who's still a divisive character today for a lot of people.
-The reward for getting 120 stars on 64 was not much good, the same reward for the same requirements is much worse on Sunshine.
-If you wanted to get to the final boss, you had to beat every Shadow Mario mission, where as SM64 let you for the most part get any stars you wanted and skip those you didn't want to do, if you weren't going for 100%
-Is rushed and unfinished like Wind Waker. Devs even admitted to this.
-Bizarre decisions like the pipe at the end of the poison river that takes you out with no indication.

It's not a bad game, as conceptually it's pretty great for what it tried to do. The execution just could have been a lot better.

Deservedly so. The water pack ruined any precision platforming skill requirements that SM64 established, and we are left with another floaty hovery collectathon with bad challenges, needless ability locks(babby steps for babby game ;^)) and more linearity in the game progression, since you can't just, on a whim, go for a different star than the one you are challenged with..
