No you don't, the game is linear as hell and nothing like the classic Dooms.
the problem with the new doom is that there are still annoying cutscenes and button prompts that waste your time. i realize that the arcade mode probably solves these issues but it's just funny to point out from a game that spends most of its time making fun of the modern shooter.
How about we call the first game in the series Ultimate Doom in order to avoid confusion?

Well that's what the game is all about. Gets better in the middle when you unlock most weapons, then it gets repetitive by the end.
And the Bosses kinda suck.
You're reaching pretty hard, they lock you in a room for two minutes twice over the course of a ten hour game. Come on son.
Except weapon upgrades slow the game down considerably.

Arcade Mode is the most fun I've had with a shooter in years. Pity the Berserk powerup is so fucking busted when you equip the air mobility and both glory kill glyphs.
I hated Glory Kills at first, but when I realized they're most useful as a >teleports behind you button I came to piece with them.
That's exactly what old-school shooters were.
Doom 4's problems are an over-reliance on structured battles in single rooms and that fucking shitty "melee to get health" mechanic. It's still good, though.

Old Doom didn't have surprise lock-in ambushes at EVERY FUCKING ENCOUNTER. What's so bad about opening a door, actually seeing all the monsters inside and using already known geography against them?

The real reason is that it's too taxing on the hardware to render a lot of demons at any given time. Also the levels become smaller and divided in segments which also is easier on the hardware.
So they lock you in a small room in which new enemies spawn after you have killed some. In order to give the illusion that you are fighting a huge horde of demons. And it kinda works.
How about we actually solve the problem.

Limitations. Same reason why Quake had a much lower enemy count than Doom. Polygons are just more taxing.
They also made them stronger to accommodate the lower enemy count.
Now we have weaker enemies in a greater number that have to spawn in an arena.

Yeah there is seriously about 5 or 6 minutes of total cutscenes in the entire game.

They might be shills but they are not wrong. Weapon Mods like Micro Missiles and Double Super Shotgun do not slow down the gameplay at all. And they are awesome, and you can also not use them.

Didn't stop serious sam from having a fuck ton of enemies on screen, the HD version models were pretty detailed. Sams environments were much bigger albeit more barren in most cases. The first two games ran on the original xbox without cutting down the enemy count.

Also, during possession, it seems anything that is near the body becomes a part of them. Good if you were holding onto a BFG. Sucks for any UAC employee doing... "stuff"

They're not talking about weapon mods, they're talking about the process of upgrading them (I assume, anyways). Menus are not fun.

Shadow Warrior 2 have lots of GRAPHICS. Plays closer to Serious Sam games. But I am saying redundant shit, Serious Sam 3 already have GRAPHICS.

seeing that they're all fucking dead, not that good.
Set it on low-med difficulty and don't play co-op, that avoids "bullet sponge" problem, which isn't an issue in the first place if you get the best upgrades. Shadow Warrior 2 is faster than nu-doom and doesn't have garbage combat phase breaking forced glory kills / execution. Anybody that supports the retards at id software and bethesda should be gassed irl. Only interesting game they have is Quake Champions.
