>It isn't a souls clone without an Ornstein and Smough.
It isn't a souls clone without an Ornstein and Smough
>Two enemies to fight at once
>M-Must be an Ornstein and Smough clone!
Why do people bend over backwards to shit on Souls games?
>What is their names again?
English isn't your first language, huh?
>Two warrior bosses right before a castle in a game directly inspired by Dark Souls
>Not a reference to Ornstein and Smough
>2D game
>WOULDN'T BE A SOULS CLONES WITHOUT
>op is ACTUALLY retarded
No, it's just that the Biggie smalls meme sometimes begins with "What's their names again" rather than What are their names again?
whats this game
That's not Ornstein and Smough though, that's the Twin Dragonriders from Dark Souls II.
What are some good 2D Souls games?
>Items in the inventory make passive mentions of lore characters you'll never see in the game, such as Allfather Lyod
You never meet "Toar the slumbering doctor" in the game. Clearly souls inspired.
Momodora 4. About a shrine maiden that wields a Canadian in battle.
Forgot pic
what's this game?
>Devs market their game as a "Souls-like"
>not a castlevania clone without slogra and gaibon
See, I can pretend to be retarded too, user.
Castlevania doesn't have estus flasks and dodging.
Canadian Dark Souls
>Normal thing becomes a monster after being rejected and thrown into a sewer/graveyard.
Sounds familiar, almost like Gaping Dragon
For the record, Frida is a big ghost bird that fires lasers.
If you're looking for a soulslike game, this is it.
dodging in a video game doesn't automatically make something a darksouls clone
But dodging, estus flask like healing and tool/spell use system tied to a check point do.
...
There's definitely a very Souls flavour to the grammar and writing style, but it's not like this is a particularly unique thing...
Castlevania symphony of the night has potions, and alucard can crouch or backdash to dodge (he actually has a couple of unique evasion techniques and a myriad number of healing items).
Don't be stupid, user. Souls isn't the inventor of video game mechanics that have been around since the 80s and 90s (though a lot of souls fanboys were born in the current millennium, so it's understandable that they'd be unfamiliar with older games).
I found Not-Solaire, she's not looking too good.
>estus flask like healing
What the fuck does that even mean? You mean like a POTION?
>checkpoints
Like a save room?
Any of the points you make are things that already exist in metroidvania games. You're just giving different labels to similar (if not identical) mechanics.
>game that advertises itself as being heavily inspired by souls games
>BAWW ITS LIKE SOULS GAMES
is momodora III good
i have $2 in steam wallet funds
>You mean like a potion
I mean like a rechargeable number of heals restored at a checkpoint.
>checkpoint
>like a save room
I mean like a bonefire, that also provides a teleportation feature later in the game.
It's alright. Not as good as 4 imo but still pretty fun.
Nah, you're not making a case for the inventiveness of the souls series. All of these features are common in JRPGs and Metroidvania games. You're giving too much credit to the souls games (which are good games, imo).
I don't remember a healing tool in Castlevania. I remember healing items, but not in the same vein as an estus flask.
Who gives a shit if it's a "souls like" or whatever, it's fun and a pretty decent game. Now post tits
I don't even get what purpose she has in the plot.
It's the same damn thing.
In certain versions of the original Castlevania, there was a healing herb subweapon too.
To bring tits to an otherwise titsless game. Truly a most nobel cause
Yeah but why was she there? Game is about a queen who made a shitty deal with the underworld and cursed her kingdom and citizens into red spirits.
Unless Isabella is the person she made the pact with.
>game has bosses
nice souls ripoff kids, try some original ideas next time???
I literally only remember one time healing items in SoN.
fuck off waifufags are a plague
Yeah user Dark Soul was the first to make double bosses before the castle.
Fucking unbelievable neo/v/
Who are you quoting?
Bought this game on sale and it's a ton of fun. Just wish it was longer since I'm 3 hours in and I feel half finished.
Sup Forums
I honestly don't know because I've never really gotten the plot of any of the momodoras, I just like the gameplay so I keep playing them as they come out. So I guess it really is a soulslike game because I do the exact same thing with all of those
Except that game has floaty as fuck controls, awful jittery camera and a horrible artstyle. So kinda nothing like a souls game.
IS THIS A SOULS REFERENENERNENCE CUZ I SURE THINK IT IS
Its just the best one nostalgia fag
>Comparing one of the shittest one off boss fights with no real explanation 5 seconds into the game with the actual fun S&O fight.
Eat a dick.
>actual fun
>run in circle counterclockwise and poke when there's a window
wew lad
I haven't played the Souls games but I really enjoyed the combat in Momodora. Is it comparable and would I enjoy the Souls series?
>Strawmanstrawmanstrawmanstrawman
Wew lad
ITT: retards legitimately believe every single game is a ripoff of the souls series.
your all the dumbest shits, holy fuck nu/v/
This has to be a joke lmao its literally based on souls the game and you are arguing like an autist and moving goal posts like an autist.
Kys
No, maybe. It's closer to a metroidvania type game, try aria of sorrow if you haven't played a castlevania before
Alright, guess I got meme'd on by Youtube reviewers again. Thanks.
>butthurtbutthurtbutthurtbutthurtbutthurtbutthurt
It has like passing similarities but that's all. It's like saying "I liked super mario world, will I like spyro the dragon?"
Wait, what the fuck? That's not where you fight them.
>When you first start the game, enter the Alchemy Lab, but immediately turn around and go to where Death steals your weapons. You'll fight an early battle against Sloga and Gaibon, though after they've suffered enough damage, they'll take off and await the real battle.
Do you get anything for it?
nothing wrong with that sentence if they have one single name, which they do if you're alluding to their memetic variation
Don't know, I just googled it. I'd assume no though.
Is this thread the Dark Souls of Sup Forums?
Is Sup Forums the Dark Souls of the internet?
Is morbid obesity the Dark Souls of America?
>pls like and subscribe
To think that there are still secrets I didn't know about in this game.
Truly SotN is a timeless classic.
>Is Sup Forums the Dark Souls of the internet?
yes
I had it happen on accident when I first played and there's no reward or anything, it just happens.
THIS
OP is a cuck
Is Dark souls the evangelion of videogames?
>Extremly overrated
>No story what so ever (unless you read the fanfic some autist cobbled together from item descriptions)
>Literally no good characters
>Slow, boring combat
>Shitty memes and references in every single thread even if its not relevant to the subject
>Muh first "hardcore" experience
>Pretentious to the max, nobody knows whats going on
>Goyim keep praising it even after you point out all the massive flaws in its design
Can all soulsbabbies just die already?
>explain how o&s fight plays out
>S-STRAWMAN YOU FAKER
I like Souls too but you gotta agree O&S was a hit and run fight.
only if you're super bad at the game
i just circle strafe them while spamming magic gg ez everytime
No because dark souls can still be enjoyable without paying attention to all the pretentious 2deep4u story shit. I liked eva at first when it was a monster of the week show but that didn't last long and then it turned into a drag
Quick, where was Momodora made?
On a computer
on a PC
Earth
>It isn't a Castlevania clone without Slogra and Gaibon
FTFY
Sometimes I wonder if Soulsfags only dickride DS1 because it was babby's first RPG or something. That game recycled so much shit from old FROM games that you could probably remake a King's Field game with assets from the Souls series.
>I just circle strafe and spam magic
>fun
yeah man making hard games my btich is pretty fun. try it sometime when you stop being so bad
it perfectly captures the das2 experience
im saying its fucking ass
Wow Nintendo.... Copying Souls? That's a new low
I liked Momodora. The last boss couldn't hold a candle to the fight against Pardoner Fennel, though.
Post Ornstein and Smough
>S&G actually work together, with G picking up S to drop on Alucard
Not only did From rip them off, they couldn't even program in some teamplay. Hilarious.
That is the essence of all action games similar to souls though. You avoid enemy attacks and wait for an opening, granted Souls does seem to have noteworthy issues with constant strafing being all to safe and easy to do.
Dark Souls does have noteworthy issues, but the core mechanics of the games are all sound and fun. It's combat that has very telegraphed attacks that do a lot of damage, it's fun for the same reason RE4 was fun.
>one has a spear
>the other falls on you
pottery
>Extremly overrated
No shit.
>Boulder trap rehash right off the bat
>Oscar hollowing when he does makes no sense and you can fight him while both he and you are wearing his armor
>Asylum Demon is a Vanguard Demon rehash and you fight 3 variations
>Things have to be explained away with convoluted time
>Kaathe's actions make little sense since the flame's already dying and Gwyndolin is a much greater threat to his plans than Gwyn, especially since Gwyn tries to kill anyone who enters the kiln
>END is a superstat that makes you better at everything and RES is a shit stat that's not good for anything
>Shields break the game
>Poise can break the game with little effort
>PvP devolved into crit fishing and poisehealing with humanities
>Infinites that have to be toggled out of
>No teleporting until after S&O, can't teleport to every fire
>Easy as fuck after your first play-through because you understand humanity and kindling and can get the rite early
Despite the improvements to the combat and muh interconnected world I enjoyed Demon's Souls way more. Dark Souls 1 had some straight up dogshit design decisions that the community just ignores for some reason.
They were hard as fuck, also probably the best boss fight in the game. I had to use the ice nun chucks to fuck up the red one and then whittle the green one dead so I could quickly smash through their joined form.
> Dark Souls 1 had some straight up dogshit design decisions that the community just ignores for some reason.
Such as?
Man, I remember when everything was a Zelda-like.
Fuck I'm old.
Souls clone or not
is this shit worth 10 dollars?
It's pretty enjoyable but it's very short. It's a Metroid like game and it took me like 6 hours to 100% the map, plus the combat has some noteworthy balance issues stemming from the bow and some attacks have conveyance issues to them.
I enjoyed it, but there are for sure better Metroidvania games on steam.
It's a tad short. You wont regret playing it, but you probably won't get your money's worth.
The art is gorgeous tho.
can I play momodora in any order?
The story order is 4>1>2>3 , but gameplay wise I suppose there isn't any real problem to play any.
>Such as?
The stuff I listed, for a start.
SOUL STEAL!
some of those inputs were dumb as shit, I don't even know what tetra spirits is supposed to be, half circle down?
>Shields break the game
Not even slightly, if anything DaS has the most interesting blocking mechanics I've seen in an action game. Usually blocking will require some goofy nonsense were you need to stand still to block, and half the attacks in the game are unblockable.
>Poise can break the game with little effort
Not really, only one boss really benefits from stacking poise and going ham on him. Beyond that it's much easier to go light and use the light roll to iframe through everything.
>PvP devolved into crit fishing and poisehealing with humanities
PVP is more of a novelty when it comes to DaS. There's a reason it doesn't have a dedicated online versus mode.
>END is a superstat that makes you better at everything and RES is a shit stat that's not good for anything
Yeah, the game has a problem of just giving the player too many stats to put points into, it's pretty goddamn dumb.
The game does have issues but like I said, the core gameplay is still top notch and it has a fuckton of diversity when it comes to weapons and their swings. Most games Sup Forums praises will have noteworthy flaws, but will end up doing a few niche things very well. Prior to Demon Souls I can't think of a single game that does slower paced, punishing melee combat better.
If you're in the market for a cheap Metroidvania, I'd opt for axiom verge instead
Valdis Story and Environmental Station Alpha are both better that Momodora and Axion Verge, but both AV and Momodora are worth playing.
