Wii-U was dead on arrival because devs weren't really interested in gimping their games so they could make a port for what was, essentially, a last gen console released just as that gen was ending.

A good example for why that is, is Destiny: think about how much better Bungielands would have been if it hadn't been held back by the need to port to decade old hardware.
