I just spent 2 years playing through ARR and HW, and this game has a massive community problem 100% supported by incompetent devs.
This is an MMO with, at best, limited focus on endgame content. The expectation is that you grind old content 90% of the time, and then do something with the current endgame the other 10% of the time. It's a joke, but I understand why they do it:
99% of the people playing this game are using it as an elaborate chatroom and ERP fuck house. That sounds like an exaggeration, but it's true, and it's why less than 5% of all players ever step foot into the endgame content.
SE knows this, they know the stats on how many players actually participate in the content they put out. They support it 100%. They constantly release grindy, easy shit for the players to do rather than any of the endgame raids; and it rewards items/gear just a hair below the actual endgame. The game has no add on support and forbids the use of 3rd party software for add ons, such as a parser. Using a parse to boot players who are holding back a group, because the numbers indicate that they are incapable of clearing the content, is considered harassment and you will be suspended/banned.
Beyond that, the insistence on PS3/PS4 support means that entire game is zoning hell. Everything is zoned off and "traveling" is literally just teleporting to locations. HW introduced flying mounts, yet I can't remember the last time I actually flew anywhere in this game.
The issues with class balance exist, but pale in comparison to the problems with the general infrastructure of the game. What SE has cultivated is a playerbase that's either too lazy or too uninterested to do any type of challenging content, assuming they actually do content. For fuck's sake, the most recent content is the most dead; it's a fucking joke.
Ryan Wood
Woah, it's almost like the game is an MMO.
Luis Scott
No, please play this game. It serves as containment so these fucks don't ruin another game's community

Are you retarded? At best it pretends to be an MMO. MMOs are endgame focused.
This game doesn't even attempt to teach the players how to play the game properly enough to step into the endgame content. You can't even run a parse without breaking the TOS.
Grinding out old shit from ARR has been the main focus of at least half the content offered in HW. That's fucking insane. There are 4 endgame boss fights that constitute the raids, and all other content is grinding out old shit over and over again. Even "new" content like Palace of the Dead is running through hallways killing trash mobs forever before killing a completely non threatening boss.
Jace Gutierrez
So the game is bad because you are too fucking stupid to know what to do? Fucking autismo. You wouldn't have played through the whole fucking game+expansion if you didn't like it.
Juan Walker
>Themepark MMOs are endgame focused.
fixed. In a real MMO, the focus would be on the journey. They are strong community driven games. World of Warcraft popularized the notion all that matters is the never ending gear treadmill at level cap, with leveling being a boring timesink.
Xavier Martin
Except I did, and I cleared the content. Most people who aren't whiny fucks actually complete things before offering an opinion on them.
The most disappointing thing about FFXIV is that the game portion isn't bad, but the MMO portion, that is to say the community, is terrible because very few of them are there to actually play the game portion. It's like a middle school dance with everyone standing against the walls where they're comfortable while 4 or 5 people are enjoying the dance.
FFXIV is built like a themepark MMO/gear level grind. They just offer tiny amounts of endgame content while creating side content that's literally just revisiting what used to be the endgame gear grind of past patches.
Yeah, MMOs are community driven games. The FFXIV community has no drive to play the game.
Tyler Lewis
The game is designed to perpetually allow newcomers to complete content. That's why 90% of the game is doing things you've already done a thousand times.
Carson Clark
>MMOs are endgame focused
No, they are glorified chatrooms.
YOU want them to be endgame focused. Most MMO are not, and most MMO players (as you pointed out) aren't interested in this.
If you're done with the content and aren't interested in socializing, just unsub and go play another game.
Oliver Lopez
Yes.
Ironically, because it's very "anti-skill" in this design, these newcomers never actually learn how to play the game.
Even the leveling the process for each job/class feels slapped together in a hurry, and then is given a working rotation when you hit the level cap. The way every job plays their role takes hard shifts at least twice while leveling such that you're effectively learning a new job. SE failed to introduce the core mechanics of the jobs early and then build on them as you level. It's then a small wonder why so many players at endgame don't even know their rotations.
The other big whoops was outlawing parsers. Tanks no knowing how much damage they're mitigating, DPS not knowing how much damage they're dealing, and healers not knowing how much damage they're healing is a huge part of the general ineptitude you find in endgame groups. These players have been giving nothing that offers them feedback on how well they're playing. Frankly, with the huge hassle involved in getting a parser running for FFXIV, I can't blame them.
FFXIV is the LoL of MMOs.
Adrian Garcia
What the fuck are you on about? MMOs have classically been endgame focused regardless of if they use vertical or horizontal progression.
At no point does pre level cap content serve as more than a sort of tutorial for the endgame. To clarify, I'm using "MMO" to specifically refer to "MMORPG" and not just large multiplayer games in general.
Colton Lewis
they should get rid of classes and use the wow way and give you the core mechanics of every job at level 15. like the diferent stances to warrior and pala. that way you get to learn your job a lot better, it would make the leveling and low level dungeons more fun to play
Caleb King
I FUCKING HATE HOW THE IMPORTANT STORY IS BOUND TO OLD RAID I WANT TO FINISH GODDAMN BINDING COILS BUT LITERALLY NOBODY PLAYS IT THEY DON'T DO IT EVEN FOR THE WONDROUS TAILS GIVE SOME STIMUL FOR OLD PLAYERS TO REPLAY OLD RAIDS. LIKE ROULETTE WITH RAISED LEVEL SYNC CAP holy shit at this rate i'll need to wait for stormblood, get lvl 70 on tank and solo it with ilvl400 gear.

Not when they suck and let the tank dies.
Jason Wright
You were right on everything except class balance.
For starters let me get this out of the way, a perfectly balanced game in terms of classes can't exist, there will always be a meta.
Now heres the deal, the classes in this game are so balanced to the point were it basically doesn't matter what class composition you bring unless its a raid, and even in those scenarios it only makes the fight harder to clear not impossible.
Now there are some noticeable class design issues but for the most part class balance is Very trivial in this game because every class is divided into roles within their roles and they do almost the same thing (brd and mch play similarly, whm and ast play similarly, etc). This will never change because yoship has already stated that he wants every class to be viable for any content, so the tldr is that this game plays like a moba or a fighting game were each class is a "character" and you learn how to play it. There is little to no customization, and they plan to abolish what little customization there is now.
I honestly do see the fun in it, but it doesn't feel like an mmo for me and it tires and bores me out after a while. The most fun I had in this game was getting my first class to 60, it gave me actual sense of progression, the endgame of this game does not give that at all.
Elijah Hughes
its shit desu, Glad i quit at 3.2. Literally fight and memorize a boss and his mechanics, in a circle stage. Then they drop some misc stuff next patch to make you grind. It's boring and shit, fuck anyone who defends yoshi P
Ian Harris
>let the tank dies. Tanks cant even into grammar, and when they can't into using their fucking cooldowns, then they don't deserve to get even 1HP healed.
Colton Fisher
I bailed after they turned my Bard into a fucking blackmage, haven't looked back.

>99% of the people playing this game are using it as an elaborate chatroom and ERP fuck house. That sounds like an exaggeration, but it's true, and it's why less than 5% of all players ever step foot into the endgame content. None of this is true, unless you play on the infamous RP server Balmung. In which case the last part is still not true. >Beyond that, the insistence on PS3/PS4 support means that entire game is zoning hell. PS3 support has been dropped. But zoning is hardly a problem. >For fuck's sake, the most recent content is the most dead; it's a fucking joke. If you mean to say that the endgame raids are what is played the least out of all the engame content, then yean. no shit. Not only does it take dedication, and also a static that only plays at certain times, but many statics and groups have standards like "no bonus" or "x chests" that limit new players entry to said content.
You're right with one thing though: That SE cultivates content thats available to all players. FFXIV is the only MMO that does "pick what you wanna do" decently, as opposed of squeezing all the players that reach endgame, into 2-3 different raids ad infinitum.
Also >I just spent 2 years playing through ARR and HW >2 years lmao
Gavin Watson
I cant stand the endgame in any MMO, and also not in FFXIV. The journey to the endgame is fantastic, but the stupid tome grind is just not my thing. Same reason I cant enjoy D3 or PoE as much as others. As soon as I'm at the endgame, I lose interest.
That said, XIV probably held me at its endgame the longest. The deep dungeon, beast tribe quests and other stuff were a nice variety that kept me going for much longer than WoW or other MMOs I've tried did.
