Psychonauts 2 (2018)

youtube.com/watch?v=bFqZNcMAnFo&t=215s

Dec. 3, 2015, Tim Schafer said this game will take 3 years with the $3.8 million dollars he made with on Fig. That means release date will be Holiday 2018. He has 3 years to make a sequel with such a small budget compared to other games.

How bad will he fuck up?
Thoughts on the Art Test?

>people are stilling giving this fat fuck money

Guarantee half the money is gone from Starbucks and Molly by now.

There is some serious money management problems at his studio and they'll never make anything with as much love and polish as psychonauts 1 again.

I haven't played any of his Indie looking games, but I played Psychonauts 1 and Brutal Legend.

I thought the concepts, characters, dialogue made them overall good games.

I thought there was an small fanbase who liked Grim Fandago.

first two years will be him sitting on his ass begging for money and the last will be shambling something together
mighty no 9 all over again except people will eat it up

Looks okay, but graphics don't matter that much in a heavily stylized game. I just hope they won't fuck up the story and humour.

Really liked Raz as a character.
He reminds me of myself from middle school.

Everybody at the camp thought he was annoying and tried avoiding him.

Also posting best gag.

>He reminds me of myself from middle school.
Intelligent, nihilistic and with a wicked sense of humor?

I know it's early, but I really like what they've shown of the visuals so far. It's colorful and updated, but still carries that stylized charm of the original.

>There is some serious money management problems at his studio
Didn't they throw some big company circlejerk party after Broken Age came out, and a few days later a bunch of developers got laid off?

I hope they have a power for Mind Control or Making heads explode.

I want to take over LiLi's body.

I hope they at least got to attend that party before they got sacked.

I liked the different campers. Half of them were bullies, but Dogen, the band kids, and that guy who told infinitely long stories seemed pretty mellow the whole time.

It actually looks great so far.
Will still wait for reviews as always.

What I love about Psychonauts was all the extra dialogue.

There was like an item (or was that a turtle?) which you get like five minutes before the end of the game, and still every character in the game had a unique line to respond to Raz, when you showed it to them.

My problem with some of the campers is that some has more detail than other campers.

Bobby Zilch detailed ugly face and then characters such as Maloof have circle eyeballs and have really undetailed face.

I don't expect it to top the novelty of the original. There was a bizarre yet simultaneously grounded sense of humor that seems like it'd be increasingly hard to ever replicate the charm of.

But I think the premise still has a lot of potential. Hell, I like seeing these characters with all their old voice actors returning after all these years. It's a fun cast.

>He has 3 years to make a sequel with such a small budget compared to other games.
He asked for people on Figg alone to pay for the $3 million, other companies and DF are paying for it as well apart from the campaign.

I had to go back and replay the game for the achievement.

>tfw Milka is you're waifu
>tfw getting cucked by Elton of all people

Yeah, I'll give you that one. I think the art style on the main cast aged really well.

But then you got characters like the cheerleaders that looked like malformed muppets.

art looks fine.

damn that's harsh, you can hear them slurping as they kiss each other really good. It's a wet kiss with tongue, sucks that she's your waifu. She didn't even talk how can she be your waifu?

I like the artstyle, but I'm not sure how the chearleader campers and the campers with the circle eyeballs will look good in HD.

That's something I hope they can recapture. The first game was filled to the brim with hidden jokes and interactions that changed a bit every time you returned to the hub area.

It's part of why Brutal Legend felt spread thin in comparison. The world was huge, and had great designs, but there wasn't half as much content to find as there was with just talking to random people in Psychonauts.

She talked occasionally

Psychonauts Stands when?

>but there wasn't half as much content to find
That's because the game only shipped with half the planned content. There was supposed to be an entire new continent after Doviculus battle.

But I liked the arsonist punk rocker.

Game would probably have a bigger budget if he didn't fuck around with everyone's trust with Broken Age.

Psychonauts is easily one of the comfiest games of all time. I feel deprived not going to a summer camp.

>but I'm not sure how the chearleader campers and the campers with the circle eyeballs will look good in HD.
I kind of doubt we'll see all the old campers again.

The new cast will probably stick to designs that will be more capable of emoting. Probably.

He's gonna fuck up pretty nicely. I mean considering their latest string of games (Broken Age, Massive Chalice, Spacebase DF-9), I don't have much hope.

That said, has anyone played Costume Quest 2? Is that shit any good? I liked the cute, quirky nature of the first one.

...

Beat me to it

>I thought there was an small fanbase who liked Grim Fandago.
Cult classic.

I think the movement and physics in Psychonauts were really good, however they need to improve bosses and difficulty.

Bosses can be beaten in a minute.
For combat they should add punch to Psy-powers combos. Make punching less boring.

They have a Z-lock Zelda dodge for flipping, which I like, but NPC's are too braindead/easy. So there's really no need to use it too often.

That looks really gay.

I think the power updates look good so far. Psi-blast and telekinesis were really stiff in the original, because you couldn't move during the animation of it.

So now you can actually make use of dodging around.

...

I liked Elton simply because they gave the kid with hydrophobia the ability to talk to fish.

I remember that fanart floating around from God knows how many years ago.

Pretty sure there was a fair share of people that fell for it.

Does that mean we have Raz customization whenever we want? I didn't really like his new outfit because his old clothes were cool. I like the hair, but he can't be Goggalor without the Goggles.

I wonder if they're gonna do a Portal parody since they are going to Psychonauts HQ. Solving puzzles with your psychic powers with Lili in order for a tutorial would be fun.

They should make a new power that resembles Magneto, Magnetize. You can make an enemy character have shit flying at him like other enemies or stuff from the environment. Then he'll have tons of stuff magnetized to him to make a giant ball which you can use your telekenisis. Kinda like Katamari Damacy

I doubt it's a huge figure, but I'm curious how much money sequels save compared to new IP when the dev teams already has a general framework to work off of.

Pre-established characters, designs, ideas for gameplay, etc.

I'm just worried about how much social justice faggotry Schafersteinberg will shoehorn into the game. Psychonauts 1 was fucking fantastic, but DF hasn't made a good game since Costume Quest and Tim is now mainly known for being a scam artist and cuck.

example of Psychonauts HQ

Is Daggett still doing the voice of Raz? If not, this shit should be immediately dumpster'd.

>Portal reference

Looks like they're keeping the original design. I like the idea of seeing more alternate outfits with different worlds like Black Velvetopia, but they might keep it simple.

>I wonder if they're gonna do a Portal parody since they are going to Psychonauts HQ
I think the ship on that reference sailed nearly ten years ago. And I don't recall the first game having much for referential humor.

Of course he is, he still does voice acting. I mean he only does the high pitch voice. He voices villian from Skylanders, Corset from Panty and Stocking.

Probably not the best idea, but I thought it was an okay game.

Pretty sure that all the main voice actors are returning for Raz, Lili, and the camp counselors.

I want them to bring back the drowning curse full-force. It was an interesting element in the first game, but we never get much backstory on it.

I could be wrong but
a) the fig figure isn't definite, its just what people pledged and they could've backed out leading to a much smaller sum.
b) he has other larger investors, which is why people who invested on fig got fucked
c) if you want a return on your fig investment he has to sell like 6 million copies at 60 bucks.

MR SHITFACE

The game is great its just you seem like youve been living under a rock portal references were so overdone that they went out of style for a long time until that they came back into style for a short period

thats gotta be a massive part of the budget

I honestly just came up with that idea in 1 second. because the HQ looks very high tech. I don't really wish it was in necessarily.

Let's be honest, compared to other third person platformers Psychonaut's combat is a complete joke. Not a game you play for the gameplay.

I'm hyped for part 1 in 2020 then.

>nearly every character has a unique response to every new power and item regardless of how long you're expected to have it in your inventory
It's the little things.

To the point where it became a big thing.

I can't see any scenario where they don't fuck this up.

its probably a thing you should not expect back for 2

unless VAs wanna work for schafer for FREE

I wonder how much Tim wants to pay Jack Black. In the kickstarter video Jack said he can't wait to be back working at DoubleFine.

I'm sure employees can voice the pointless NPC's

I can dream.

But you're right. More and more devs seem to be trying to get away from that level of density when it comes to diverse and/or optional character interactions.

Power to see through clothes when?

I hope they bring back Cruller.

Why is Tim so obsessed with Jack Black is it because someone told him that hey look alike.

I didn't see him piloting the ship in the VR demo. I'd rather have him than Coach Oleander.

The VR demo seems to pick off after the first game's final cutscene.

Is the VA still alive? It would be best if he was dead to "still be in the camp."

I didn't know what the fuck these were, apparently they're brains.

>$3.8 million dollars he made with on Fig

that was his own money that he donated to his own website

...

Seems like they're on decent terms after working on Brutal Legend together. I doubt he charges a huge amount if he's just interested in coming back for another bit role for fun.

dickbutt

...

David Kaye is still alive. I imagine that Cruller's coming back but I don't recall if there was confirmation outside of seeing him in the background of the art here

I don't like how 2's models so far look so smooth and polished. It's like the just ressed up the characters instead of trying to conserve the janky stop motion puppet look.

...

It's a small fanbase because adventure game enthusiasts are a small audience, but within the genre and its players, pretty much everybody loves Grim Fandango. It's a fucking brilliant 11/10 game, probably Tim Schafer's magnum opus.

Psychonauts is pretty cool too though. I didn't really like brutal legend too much but I'm not a fan of metal music. I enjoyed the BDSM demon faction, that really caught me off guard, probably because I don't follow metal music.

Those profiles used to be on myspace, but they did something to fuck with the formatting which screwed them all up, and also nobody uses myspace anymore. So they put them onto the main site instead, which is great because this shit should be preserved.

I wish the sequel was a time skip so we could see Dogen's mind.

Who will be the publisher?
Ubisoft?
If so, piratefags won't be able to play this game... KEK

honestly, kys.

Buttmad piratefag detected

What? tim shafer is scamming autistic gamers again? Well I never.....

>the feather you get
>you can tickle everyone
>have tickling fetish
>fapped so many times to tickling Mila and Lili
>can't tickle qt stage manager girl from the drama stage
I was a little mad

...

I can't wait for Psychonauts 2 part1

And the kickstarter for part 2

Anybody got ideas for worlds?

What kind of person's mind would be interesting going in to?

BLACKED

A realm where everyone loses

Don't knock it till you tried it my nig. Tickling is the patrician fetish.

so we're going into the mind of a Jew?

I didn't even realize they were making a sequel until like yesterday.

How was Broken Age by the way? I remember there used to be so many shitstorms on Sup Forums over all the delays and the rise of crowdfunding back like 4 years ago.

They haven't even released that little VR game yet and they said originally that would be out October 2016

It was awful, the first part us actually kinda good but part is fucking awful and shits all over what part 1 did right.

How come small game companies never hire a finance manager? Someone to tell them how to manage their funds and tell them when they're being retarded?

>create part of the campus for engine testing
>said that they will scrap it because the campus won't be in the game.

That will probably be the case

First part was a solid but somewhat uninspired entry.
Part two was so bad in the first 30 minutes I shut it off. Just completely shat on all the suspense built up. What a waste.

It's kind of shitty that they're keeping backers in the dark about who the external partner is, and how much of the bill they're footing. They've said repeatedly that crowdfunding doesn't allow for the kind of budget they'd need for Psychonauts 2, so either the mystery partner is dumping in a whole lot of cash, or this is actually a genuine cash grab.
Either way, I contributed to the fig out of a sense of obligation. I don't have any particularly high hopes, though the art test looks nice.
