Why can't Bioware write good characters like this anymore?
Why can't Bioware write good characters like this anymore?
because white men are evil and they must all be killed
they would make him a gay
Anymore? When was the time that they can?
This character is pretty explicitly evil, though, and probably deserves to be killed, so that doesn't really contradict anything.
"my wife's son is a socially constructed devil mutant"
this is true.
when you go back to their good games, the character weren't developped at all.
not a bad thing in itself, but they never wrote good characters.
>This character is pretty explicitly evil, though
>he didn't play the game
because nu-Bioware thinks being gay or a tranny makes someone interesting.
he just looked at his skin color, do you really need anything more?
I'm currently watching a movie type playthrough of the character design/development is 10/10. The only thing that sort of bothers me is that the main story is a generic "looking for person"-story which gets extremely frustrating.
Also
Yennefer is TRASH
Triss is WIFE
would he be more evil if he wasn't fat?
for whites, is evilness directly related to how good you look?
>All those fucking retards who ended up with the baron killing himself
I don't know how they did it
Or why
I talked to the man and he seemed like a person with genuine problems not a wicked man who was violent for pleasure
After he sat in the garden and refused to drink again I decided to really help him
>I'm currently watching a movie type playthrough of the character development
>I'm currently watching a movie type playthrough of the game and
fixed
I wouldn't say he is evil, but he is still a criminal
but the baron killing himself doesn't have anything to do on how much you want to help him.
it all depends on do you do what the clearly evil crones want you to do or what that thing the evil crones tell you is evil wants you to do.
also, the ending where he dies is much, much better in term of story and everything than the one where he lives.
The part that decided it was whenever or not you killed the trapped tree spirit thing and most people didn't read the book they handed you, telling you "this is about the bogwitches you are going to, you should probably read it".
Sure did, bro. Just because he has a redemptive arc doesn't mean his sins have been erased. The dude is a drunk, abuses his power as baron, beats his wife, literally caused her to have a miscarriage because he couldn't stop beating her even when she was pregnant, drove his daughter off, allows his wife to be kidnapped, and hires a man to bring his family back to him through any means possible, including force.
Yes, by the end of the quest line he feels sorry for what he is done. He's made to face his demons in a literal way and seems to genuinely feel bad about what he has done.
He's still a drunk wife-beater though.
to save the children, and letting monster under the tree go seemed like more fun
and it was, it ate whole village later
Bioware never wrote good characters
>decide to save the children
>because of that, a whole village is murdered, the baron dies, his wife dies
>later, meet the children in a school in novigrad
>they pretend i don't exist and don't even talk to me
ungrateful little pieces of shit
>not knowing how to save the baron and his wife without killing the tree spirit
Step it up, senpai.
the thing in the tree is a far more evil entitiy, there's a book in game talking about it.
>literally caused her to have a miscarriage because he couldn't stop beating her
>allows his wife to be kidnapped
but you literally didn't play the game user, stop pretending.
well it goes for skin color the whiter the more evil, any physical defect like obesity lower evilness proportionally
of course, evilness is directly related to privilege rating, makes sense
>being a sheeple falling for propaganda written by the victors
Ciri flat out confirms the story the tree spirit tells you to be true.
>literally caused her to have a miscarriage because he couldn't stop beating her even when she was pregnant
Except thats not what happened.
She hired the crones to give her a miscarriage with the intention of making it look like his fault.
So you played the game, you just didn't read or listen or use your brain.
Congrats.
Didn't he beat his wife and cause her to get a miscarriage?
Sounds pretty rude to me desu
>Ciri flat out confirms the story the tree spirit tells you to be true.
when?
>Ciri flat out confirms the story the tree spirit tells you to be true
>Ciri flat out confirms the story the tree spirit tells you to be true
what would that little annoying cunt know about that?
During one of the like 4 times you actually hang out with her. She confirms there being a druids circle before the witches came around. Yet the book talks about there being nothing than some evil presence before they were born to that evil presence.
To be fair, CDProjekt peaked hard on that character. If there were anyone else half as interesting as the Baron, it would have been a good game.
This.
She wanted to miscarriage because she couldn't bear the thought of giving birth to his second child.
Because she cucked him for years.
>what would the space traveling mary sue know about that
Definitely more than some nobody who wrote a book about stuff that happened long before him.
best girl coming through
I don't remember this, when do you even hang out with her in the swamps? Is it at Bald mountain?
[citation needed]
>Tree spirit is murdering anyone who comes near it
>dindu nuffin crones are EBIL!
>let it go
>War orphans get to go back into the hellish warzone and die painful deaths
>Evil tree horse massacres nearby village
(You) confirmed for shit Witcher
Like everything in the Witcher, the Crones' situation in Velen isn't black-and-white. They eat kids as human sacrifices to basically act as pagan harvest gods, helping the Velen villages in various ways. Like, you know, getting witchers to stop demon trees from killing people.
Yes, they're fucking evil. Doesn't mean the tree monster isn't ALSO fucking evil. Moreover, you don't actually stop the Crones, they're still loose in the world doing whatevet they want. You've just ALSO unleashed some other unspeakable evil unto the world in addition to them out of spite.
I bet you let the plague maiden loose too
and even if the tree spirit tells the truth, it doesn't change the fact that setting it free was a bad idea.
Man you just can't fucking win with this choice. It's so offputting and nuanced.
Crones are evil, the "evil" entity isn't evil, it's just a force of nature.
You either unleash a force of nature with no moral compass that only cares about its domain or let three chaotic evil entities run a place with a sadistic iron fist.
On top of that, if you pick the Tree, the Baron kills himself and his soldiers go unchecked on any brutality, rape and murder they wish to commit.
If you pick the Crones, you're helping a higher evil but the "fallout" and casualities are less and more controlled. Baron isn't a good man, but he isn't as bad as total anarchy.
This entire choice goes agaisnt Geralt's "I'd rather not pick between any evil" mentality.
It's fucked up.
Modern Bioware is too politically loaded to be able to write good characters.
A good writer is a person who understands nuance and that the world isn't black and white, people aren't saturday morning cartoon villains nor are they glorious white knights. Problem is that when writers have some sort of political agenda they feel they need to push they are working within a very limited frame. Even if the writer is good they may feel that the "message" is more important, therefore their writing will suffer.
Politics ruin good writing, most of the time anyway.
>I bet you let the plague maiden loose too
i did.
that was the last time i trusted a spirit or monster.
>the baron either did nothing wrong
>or he deserves to die
Bruh
The Bloody Baron did EVERYTHING wrong but still manages to be likable and sympathetic in a weird way. That's why he's a good character.
A nearby village willing to give their children to witches so they could live in relative peace. They weren't innocent dindu nuffin villagers. They deserved what they got.
Remember when he shit'd his trousers when that rooster monster flexed at his ass? Hot damn I farted so hard on that part.
>Baron isn't a good man, but he isn't as bad as total anarchy
if the baron lives, he fucks off on a family trip in the mountains and we don't even know if he ever comes back
I dunno, can't they?
This
Bioware's best characters ever are essentially Mordin, Garrus, and ME2 Illusive man. Maybe Minsc too, but that's up for debate.
Basically they're characters peaked in ME2 then went on freefall after.
But EVEN THEN, there is no Bioware character as interesting, with the depth of, as controversial, and as well made as the Baron. The Baron is honest to god probably one of the best characters I've ever seen in a video game. There isn't even a single character in Witcher 3 (or 2/1 for that matter) that comes close, despite there being many good characters to choose from.
how?
nah minsc was just the funny, random and crazy guy. there was nothing interesting about him.
>People still think the Baron caused the miscarriage
It's like you guys can't follow a story and you hear what you want to
Iorveth and Roche were amazing characters. I still can't believe they didn't expand on them on Witcher 3.
how the fuck do you end up in that situation?
>it's just a force of nature.
Uhh, no.
The villagers had to sacrifice a shit load constantly to stop the mother witch. It was always considered evil, and it takes revenge on the villagers for betraying it too.
The crones are evil, but they're not as bad as the mother.
But in the end, the lesson of the Witcher series (books and games) is that there's never a lesser evil. There's just two evils, so go into any choice knowing that, or avoid choosing at all.
>Iorveth
>amazing character
i wish the stupid elf-lovers would leave this thread.
iorveth was an edgy terrorist asshole with nothing interesting about him.
even Roche, though i liked him and was one of the best bro, wasn't that interesting a character.
Geralt: I'm not going to get political.
>3 quests in
Geralt: Ok, first—the only thing Radovid deserves is a nuclear apocalypse...
Which one was the ending where they kissed and both died?
At least fucking Roche showed up in the game.
They killed Iorveth and all of Vergen off in a fucking comic book and the only mention you get in-game is the dwarves in that one quest being like "hey he's cool"
Honestly the lamest thing about TW3
Henselt was probably the best character of Witcher 2, but doesn't come close to Baron still.
...
Lol.
That's how a good Witcher finishes that quest, user.
By not taking sketchy ass spirits in clearly evil places at their word
I'm convinced that the Witcher game series is a big nightmare that Geralt is having during his death about the worst possible thing that could ever happen to him. Being sucked up as the defining influence in a global political shitstorm where he's constantly made to choose between """lesser evils"""
The wife asked the crones to kill the fetus so she could use it as a weapon against her husband
Literally the ENTIRE POINT of that arc is that they were both horrible, shitty people who deserved each other
when you go back and convince him to go to the tower with you
>>allows his wife to be kidnapped
You literally didn't play the game you dumb nigger.
welcome to Sup Forums
>that kid who read the books after he played Witcher 2 and pretends to be some expert on the franchise and hates the games so he can pretend he's smarter than the normies
that's when you let the tree spirit free.
it saves the children and the crones punish anna for losing them by transforming her into a water hag.
you lift the curse and allow the baron to talk to her, but she still dies. the baron's daughter doesn't want to talk to him ever again, then the baron hangs himself.
That's from a book that also praises the Crones for bringing balance and good to the area. Wake up, sheeple. The Crones brought down their mother and have terrorized the place ever since. At least the Mother was a neutral evil and not a chaotic evil entity like the Crones.
Are you American? The only people who disregard the elves and their cause just because of their terror tactics are people who have been brought up to think terrorism equates to evil.
What the fuck do you expect elves to be or do after being shafted by humans over and over?
what tower
Sorry user but I meant the plague maiden quest.
No, I fucking love the games you faglord.
I just recognize that Geralt does / would fucking hate the position he's thrown in from the end of TW1 - the end of TW3.
sorry user, I never completed the arc. I just finished the part where you actually deal with the baby fetus
The crones are lawful evil though, and the tree is chaotic evil.
The crones all have terms and conditions to their evil.
I wonder why black women do that thing with the head when they go apeshit
The plague tower? You need to bring him to the tower with you, they kiss and the spirit is set free. Set free != Set loose. Free means the spirit is at peace, loose means it'll continue to be a plague and murder out of spite.
Not freeing the spirit beforehand and admitting you were the only one in on it to the crones so both the kids flee and Anna gets a good end.
That tree is fucking pissed after centuries of imprisonment and only slaughtered the Crones' worshippers. Did you forget that it also saved the orphans like it promised?
Seems they are literally the same kind of evil.
Oh shit, you're right. My bad.
I'm not arguing which is better, they're both bad choices. Whether you prefer a lawful evil to run a place rather than a neutral evil, is up to you. Honestly, I'd rather a force that doesn't discriminate instead of living under the rule of a trio of Crones who will let me live if I give them my children and parts of my body sometimes.
>At least the Mother was a neutral evil and not a chaotic evil entity like the Crones.
>I unironically don't understand D&D alignments
The Crones are Lawful Evil. They have a set of rules they follow. They're religiously bound to their word or they wouldn't keep their pact with Geralt. There are terms and conditions to everything they do.
The Tree Spirit is, at best, a malicious force of nature. It's literally chaotic evil.
Yea but before the crones the tree just murdered senselessly already.
>A long, long time ago the Mother was sole ruler of all of Velen. Her daughters brought her the people's requests and served as her voice. Each spring, sacrifices of grain, animals, and men were made to the Lady of the Wood on her special night. Yet as the years passed, the Lady of the Wood slipped deeper and deeper into madness. Her madness eventually spread over the land - men took to abandoning their homes and setting out into the bog, where they became food for beasts. Before long, Velen was drowning in blood.
>The daughters saw their land nearing destruction and took it upon themselves to save it. When spring came once more, and with it the night sacrifices, they killed their mother and buried her in the bog. Her blood watered the oak atop Ard Cerbin, and from then on the tree grew wholesome and hearty fruit for the people. As for the Lady's immortal soul, it refused to leave its beloved land, and so the sisters imprisoned it. To this day it lies trapped beneath the Whispering Hillock, where it thrashes about in powerless rage.
The crones basically just do what the mom did before she went batshit crazy. Freeing the Mom just means freeing a batshit crazy monster.
>people still discuss shit in terms of D&D alignments
>le elaborate alt-right analogy meme man
Yes, yes, we get it. Conservative old men are cucked and suffer, so they beat their wifes and their daughters become strong independent female feminists.
I wish video game developers would stop shoving political messages in their products.
>despot tyrant
>bandit gang warlord
>mass murderer
>extorts locals
>switched side in the war
>beats his wife
>rapes his wife
>killed a guy she loved
B-b-b-but he is a good guy because he said "cuck" in a cinematic.
And his wife was a cheating cunt who made a deal with the Crones just to spite him. Both of them are terrible people. But at least the Baron is trying to make amends unlike his wife and cunt of a daughter.
History is written by the victors. And who do you suppose wrote that book? It's probably nothing but propaganda from the crones' worshippers to make them seem like the 'good' guys and not like usurpers.
According to Sup Forums abortion is murder, but beating a woman until she miscarries is perfectly reasonable!!
I want to fuck Philipa's mouth and pull on her pigtails.
It's not like the Crones don't still run the place if you let the tree spirit go, user.
There's just a second powerful evil presence loose in Velen in ADDITION to the Crones now.
In fact, you dismantle the Crones' position of power on Velen later on. But the tree spirit is still loose in the world.
By letting it go you've objectively made the world a worse place out of spite.
Loosing an evil tree demon is obviously the worse choice in this scenario and I don't understand how people don't get this. It's not even about whether or not the Baron necks himself. It's a simple matter of how many eldritch abominations are loose in the world in the end. And one scenario leads to having an extra one in the world.
You can still read between the lines there.
It mentions that the Crones required sacrifices to stop their Mom, so they're still evil, just not batshit crazy.
No I think the Crones are pretty evil, a lot of people are sacrificed to them. I hardly call that a "force of nature" if blood needs to be turned over.
He didn't fucking beat her until she miscarries you idiot.
She had the Crones abort her.
The morality debate for the Baron is about him beating her / killing the man who cucked him vs her cheating on him, not caring about his PTSD, and aborting their child.
>murdering a guy is fine if your wife loved him
Yes, murdering a man who fucked your wife and stole your child is fine.
>unironically using a tumblr gif
Because Bioware have never written any good characters.
>Yes, murdering a man who fucked your wife is fine
My fucking sides, what a savage subhuman fuck.
Found the slut.
