Them trying to push the Windows store is failing miserably, and it will continue to do so. Their exclusives are hardly setting the world on fire and people are still buying way more PS4's than Xbox One's. Xbox might be profitable, but that doesn't mean Microsoft considers it worth keeping around.

The Xbone literally has nothing this gen to compel you to buy it though, unlike the 360/OG Xbox. This is what I think as well. Even if the game flopped tremendously, it STILL adds value to the platform. It's still another game they can hold over competition and eventually they will pile up and people will start thinking "hey, this console already has quite a sizeable amount of exclusives, plus it's got all the multiplats, guess I'm gonna buy it", but nope, let's just cancel everything and go full HALO: GEARS OF FORZA and think these three pieces of generic dudebro trash are enough to catch the market.

Problem with Steam is, sure you can go to any electronics store or Walmart knock off and get a pre-built PC, but that doesn't mean the games you want to play will run on it. For most people using a PC for anything more than social media and checking the bank statement scares them.
They cancelled Scalebound because it wasn't getting finished on-time and on budget.
They wanted "Platinum Games makes us a MonHun clone", they didn't get it, they demanded revisions, and Kamiya stopped giving a shit. When he stopped giving a shit, the game fell behind schedule, missed milestones, and would have required further delays.
It's not like it was done and they canned it, there was still a lot of time and money they'd have to sink in.
I liked Sunset Overdrive despite all the snarky "le edgy teen" humor in it and the Gears 4 port on PC was fantastic. They care about gaming, they just have a bad management problem at Xbox. If they wanted out Scorpio wouldn't be a thing.

The thing is though that Scalebound would have been a goodwill investment for Microsoft.
Microsoft is still trying to repair its image from the Xbox One reveal, imagine if Kamiya was allowed to make his visionary Scalebound and it came out and was a fantastic game. Even if it didn't sell it makes Microsoft look better. You have this game that make people go "This is supposedly great and I can't get this anywhere else" and they are a bit more compelled to buy an Xbox One or upgrade to Windows 10.
Instead they went and tried to focus test Scalebound to oblivion, and when that shit didn't work out they just cancelled it. So now they have damaged their reputation again.

The 360 was and still is a better console than the PS3 though.
360 came out earlier and was cheaper. Those two seem to be the factors that win a generation. PS4 was cheaper and released earlier than Xbone and look who's in the lead.
This is why I'm concerned for the Switch. PS4 has such a large install base and seems to be powering on through with churning out games. That's a tough market to go against.
