was about to post this

Slim desu, only game i heard it gets 60fps for the pro is nioh.

Rest are just a bunch of yseless effects and more resolution if you have a 4k tv.

Pro can still only do 30fps so there's literally no point

The PC ___

There's no need to get a Pro, right? It's not like future games are gonna be optimized for it. That'd be stupid considering far less people own a Pro than a vanilla.

Depends.

Pro increases resolution, but rarely does it have options for increased framerate.

I've seen the differences being (most to least common)
> Increased resolution, above 1080p but not 4k. No other changes
> Increased resolution, above 1080p, but not 4k. Some AA, AF changes.
> Increased resolution from sub-1080p to 1080p. No other changes.
> 1080p resolution and increased FPS.

I got the Pro because I have the feeling there will be a bigger difference between the consoles as games are developed from the ground up with these 2 in mind.

So far game devs haven't known about the Pro, and do bullshit patches that don't add many options. I believe in the future that will change.

Still, most games are probably gonna be developed primarily for the regular version. The Pro is basically a more powerful option for people who want it, but the majority of consumers are gonna have the cheaper one. To begin with, most people don't own 4K TVs.

I was gifted a PS4 Pro for Christmas against my will, should I politely ask to have it returned and switch it out for a slim or just not bother.

I'm an indecisive as fuck person so I don't really know.

I absolutely agree. I do think that we'll see more games like TLOU, FFXV, and Nioh, with various settings for users to determine how to run their game. After all, Sony needs SOME perk the Pro has for its $100 increase in price.

If you already have one kind, there's not much need to switch it out for the other.

Quick question: I heard Pro is noisy and gets way too hot the longer you play. My PS3 died because of that, and I don't want to ever rebuy a console again.
Is that true?Should I wait for the PS4 Pro Slim? Or just get the fucking Slim?

So far I've had no issues with the Pro.

No loud fan noises? How hot did it get after an intensive gaming session?

Also thanks for replying.

Wasn't Tomb Raider the very first game mentioned to get a 1080p 60fps mode? Did something happen to that?

The Pro. Worst case scenario, you waste $100 on slight improvements. Best case scenario you save $200 not having to upgrade to the Pro when they start making games noticeably better on the Pro.

My Pro has been quieter than my og PS4. This includes playing 4K content.

I fucking hate loud equipment. I spent $1000 extra just on cooling for my PC. I find PS4 Pro noise levels acceptable.

Ok, thanks for replying. Will take that into consideration.

There's a bit of noise, but I sit quite a ways from my TV, so I never hear it unless I'm close. As for heat, I haven't noticed it getting too hot.

>pro
>loud
It's the quietest model of them all, you really need to stop taking anything posted here as a fact

Nioh is also 60 on base

Bought PS4 Slim since there was a good discount for Christmas and looking through PS Store there's pretty much nothing I find worth getting. I have Bloodborne and S;G0(though I found out there's an unofficial PC version), I'll probably get TLG later and Nioh when it comes out, but everything else is already on the PC.
Even Gust will release Atelier Sophie on PC next month.

Ok, thanks. Seems like I'm really too gullible, I thought the heat and fan noises complaint were true. I had that problem with my old fat PS3 and I really don't want to buy another PS4 a few years down the line.

Yeah Tomb Raider has that

...

What's up with selling two different versions of a console these days? PSP/pspgo, Vita/Slim, ps3/slim, Ps4/pro, DS/DSi/dsixl/dsixlxd/3dsixldlxl

Well, to be fair, the console's only been around a little while. My Original PS3 lasted from 2007 to 2010 before it suddenly died and never came back. The Pro could be the same. Or the Slim could turn out that way.

If you're really concerned, get a warranty.

The video of the jet engine PS4 Pro that was being spammed around was a defective unit. You are bound to get a few of these out of millions in sales.

Pro. it's only a bit more expensive, but SOny will eventually cave and allow PS4 Pro only games period. There's no way the Scorpio/Pro stay kindled to the base models forever. And at elast with the Pro you get some benefit even with a 1080p TV.

>There's no way the Scorpio/Pro stay kindled to the base models forever.
Exactly why I bought it. Over here the 1TB PS4 is only £70 cheaper anyway which is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

>mfw PS4 Slim

No reason not to get a Pro if you don't already have a PS4.

I got mine in 2009 and it lasted until 2015 and I was quite pissed when it happened. Been playing for decades and never ever did a console fuck up like that. Still angry I had to buy another one. That's why I'm a bit touchy with the PS4, but yeah, there's no way to know now if that shit will happen again. Will get that warranty, thanks.

Well fuck me then. I really thought most of them were loud as hell and overheated like the old Neo Geo Cdz

There are times that my pro is quite and I don't realize how quite it is until it whirs down for a split second and becomes ostensibly silent

Quietest gaming hardware I've ever owned

Of course I meant quiet all up there

Yakuza series, Gravity Rush 2, Project Diva, Persona 5. And it is just first half of the year.

Pro. There's really no reason not to get it. We're already seeing games that run like garbage on the standard PS4 but run well on the Pro (Last Guardian being a big one), and it's only going to get worse from here.

Even the PS1 had a slim version though

>Quietest gaming hardware I've ever owned
Thanks, but those are big words user.

TLG was already patched. And I would refute that by bringing up the games that run worse ojn the PS4 Pro.

But yeah the Pro in the long is still better. MS/Sony will ditch teh XBone/PS4 as soon as Pro/Scorpio sales are decent enough to make up the loss.

>There's really no reason not to get it

Except if are on a tighter budget

>Implying the average parent will buy their kid the same console twice

It's $100 more. If that's a problem, then that means you'd be buying a console and then not buying any games for it.

True, I also forgot about mobile console things like gameboys so perhaps I should say Non portable gaming hardware or something

My Slim sounds like hair dryer running DOOM at 60 fps.
But again, not all units do this and it works fine regardless.

it comes with a pack in, the pro doesn't

Pro has
>better remote play
>better network card meaning better download speeds from PSN
>a third USB slot in the back you could use for a headset dongle or whatever you want
>games like infamous and Battlefield run objectively better
>games like R&C look objectively better

Don't waste money on the slim.

They don't have to. My younger brother over christmas traded his PS4 in for a Pro for $120.

I would suggest a different hobby if $100 extranis going to throw your budget out.

That's true. But is anyone really going to be satisfied with Uncharted 4 as the only game they have to play?

Slim.

Better deals and bundles. Pro is only worth it if you already own a 4K television but it's still a trash deal considering Sony didn't put a UHD Blu-Ray drive on the damn thing.

The Pro is so silly. We have the PS4 Pro with games coming but the ultra HD thing ruined by internet connections in a lot of the US while the Xbone S has it but cancels games left and right and is nothing but a Halo machine.

It's like I'm taking crazy pills.

My financial situation isn't so great that I can afford to use $400 on a console right now. Not to mention SOMEONE blew $330 on the fucking phone bill by watching Youtube videos fucking constantly on it.

Don't be stupid enough to fall for the PRO meme. At the end of the day it's a fucking console, and barely (if any) games will actually run at 60fps.

Didn't want to be a dick, it's just that these new consoles are obviously way more noisy compared to older ones. Or handhelds.

Capped bandwidth sound like a nightmare

>SOMEONE blew $330 on the fucking phone bill by watching Youtube videos fucking constantly on it.
I remember in uni when I bunked a flat out a friend ran up £120 thinking he was hooked up to wifi and not his mobile data.

the slim is the quietest, pro isn't all that loud its quieter than the og

Yea I mean I never owned anything before n64 (my parents were kind of against gaming when I was younger), so I guess the n64 was quieter also. But aside from that, which in my eyes is still pretty impressive. I mean the thing is actually pretty much silent most of the time. But yea no worries it was a worthwhile clarification

Probably not, but then they could buy small or on sale games on psn

Just wanted to say that was an option. But maybe wait and get the pro when it goes on sale?

Do you have a 4K TV?

my bro got the PS3 in 2006 and it didnt catch the yellow light of death until 2013/2014

Base, the Pro doesn't really have any big improvements if you don't have a 4K TV to be worth the extra money and the best game on the system runs identically on both.

This isn't remotely new, the NES had a "slim" version too.

I bought that Uncharted slim bundle a few days ago and it's been a good investment so far.

What about loading times? Any differences between Slim and Pro?

Depends on the developer like every aspect of any game with Pro support.

The game I'm talking about Bloodborne doesn't have Pro support so it's completely identical, load times and all. When the Pro runs a game without Pro support it's basically underclocking itself to match the base system.

Xbox One S

Fuck, the best game on the system doesn't benefit from the Pro support. That's retarded.

I have the original base model and the pro. The pro does not, overheat/play games worse/do anything worse than the base model like a lot of Sup Forums trolls claim. However, there is not much of a difference in most games even with a 4k TV (i dont have perfect vision so take that witha grain of salt). The most noticeable difference for me was the lack of FPS drops in games like BF1 when something crazy is going down. Flying a plane past an exploding blimp while dropping bombs is noticeably smoother on the pro. My recommendation if you have any real life friends whatsoever is to get 2 base model PS4s. They all play the same games as the pro and if you have a second TV couch co-op in games that you cant normally splitscreen in is a lot of fun. If you do it right you only need one PS+ membership and one copy of each game you want to play (use google for a guide). Thats my two cents.

You are taking crazy pills. Internet connections have no effect on UHD gaming. Even in online games. The texture and graphical data is all rendered on your console from the HDD with no internet involved. The only info that gets sent over your connection is things like player position data, which is functionally no different with UHD games vs 1080p games. Unless you are referring to UHD streaming which has more to do with your connection but unless you have dial up or some garbage satellite connection most US connections are more than capable of UHD streaming. I live out in the boonies and even i get 50 Mbps.

>I live out in the boonies and even i get 50 Mbps.
I live in a city and I get 9 Mbps.

Wait for the Pro+.

Please reading comprehension more.

The only way you can get 4K is through streaming on the Pro for media. It's useless for a whole lot of people. It's strictly for games and it's not even real 4K. Some half-ass version with "checkerboarding" or some such shit.

They had a good opportunity to launch a Pro with an actual UHD Blu-Ray drive and they fucked up royally.

More like wait for the PS5 that will be just be a more powerful Pro but backward compatible with all PS4 titles.

Looking at a list there's almost as many upcoming PS4 exclusives as there have been up till now, maybe this wasn't a complete waste of money.
