Do you consider the fandom to be a negative point of a game?

Do you consider the fandom to be a negative point of a game?

If so, how exactly does it ruin the game for you?

Fandoms can ruin literally anything.

>Do you consider the fandom to be a negative point of a game?
Sometimes it can be.
>If so, how exactly does it ruin the game for you?
Just look at Left 4 Dead. No, really, look at that shit. Everyone knows how shit the community is.

Don't give me that "but friends" shit because unless you're playing with the same 7 people at all times, there will always be some cancerous motherfucker playing with you.

No but they sure can put me off of playing one.
I'm sure you'll play devil's advocate OP but let's be honest, if everyone you know who does an activity is a massive faggot, it's going to seem like an activity for massive faggots no matter what. See: Vaping

Never really played L4D what made them so bad?

Only way a fandom should even slightly affect your opinion of a game is if it's multiplayer.

Well as a sonic fan.

Definitely yes.

Judging and critiquing the game? No.

Bothering with it? You bet. I was on the fence about trying out Shovel Knight until the goddamn constant cocksucking happened. Or the cringe of Modern Sonic.

Left 4 Dead is a game about teamwork.
When you're playing campaign, the objective is to survive until the end. Teamwork is necessary, but you'll have griefers team-killing, running alone to their high chance of death before berating others for their mistakes, or spamming vote kicks.
VS, where you have a team of zombies taking on the team of survivors is where shit really hits the fan. Now you have people vote kicking teammates if they don't randomly spawn as the zombie they want, higher chances of team killing, and fighting over enemy team kills.

>too many people were saying good things about a game so I didn't play it and form my own opinion
haha what even is this mentality

I tried watching competitive Smash once and it honestly put me off Smash Bros due to the overwhelming autism

One word-

Undertale.

You're a literal retard. It's one thing to be turned off of a multiplayer game because of the community but for a single-player game? You have no excuse. Just play the game you don't even have to tell people you played it you fucking faggot.

I can't discuss it without autists gushing about their waifus, furfags posting cropped porn, and cringeworthy inside jokes.

God sounds like an absolute buzzkill.

I've had my fair share of this in mercs for RE5 and 6 you could be excellent at countering, keeping combos going and never be put in near death status yet people quit during a good match because you use a character they feel in their little pie chart isn't decent.

>Do you consider the fandom to be a negative point of a game?

Hell no. A fandom has nothing to do with the quality of a game. The only people that harp on about the fandom being a bad part of a game are idiots who don't know how to critique.

And hilariously enough, this thread seems to be made up of these idiots with how people are dodging the two questions and just go on a rant about how they hate fandoms.

The only legitimate time a fanbase can ruin a game is if the game is multiplayer.

Yes

Because an obnoxious or downright godawful fanbase says a lot about the game in question and the people it attracts. And who the hell wants to be associated with those kind of people?

Not in particular, I mostly talk about vidya on Sup Forums and this place is always horrible no matter what game we're discussing.

if the dumb masses like something it's probably terrible

>mario 3 is terrible
wew

the worst fandoms are those who haven't even experienced the thing they're fandoming about

I recall some tumblr post about that Sausage Fest movie, and the poster claiming he's already kin with the twinkie, even though he hasn't watched the movie nor even know the mentioned character's name. Of course they were already labeling him as pansexual nonbinary something something

>Do you consider the fandom to be a negative point of a game?

Single player game, don't care.

Multiplayer game, yes.

>If so, how exactly does it ruin the game for you?

It's a multiplayer game. I have to play with these people.

Not at all. Basically irrelevant.

The guilty gear community made me not want to play guilty gear anymore.

All they did was sit around, complain about not having new players, and be really fucking shitty to newer players when they did show up until they left.

People who take online games WAY WAY WAY too seriously, even outside of competitive modes, ruin those games pretty hard if there are too many of them.

Overwatch is like that.

Other than that, fandoms who insult you if you criticize any aspect of the game or the company that made it just drives people away except for people who are just as zealous as they are.

Not really.

The way I see it, some fandoms are just people who like the game, while others can get pretty crazy with how much like the game. Sometimes it's too much.

You shouldn't let fandoms determine whether or not you think the game is good or bad, though. That's all up to you.

I always kek inside thinking about how Konami had to ban over 100,000 Metal Gear Online players when there were only 300,000 copies of the game sold. I do tend to avoid fandoms which I deem to be militant (organized shitposting in the form of bullying another fanbase), or otherwise immoral.

Crysis, Counterstrike, basically all PC FPS but those are the main culprits
One Piece and Sup Forums in general
Grand Theft Auto (the DS game was pirated multiple times more than it sold)
