I think V and VI are the only bad ports on steam, I know 3 and 4 are phone ports, but those are based off the DS version and aren't that bad.

Trails in the Sky was a comfy ride. I like how all the NPCs had their own lives going on while you were running around. Not even wRPGs invest that much into world-building. (Ouroborous, on the other hand, I felt was filled with, dare I say, generic, antagonists to the main party?)

Grandia 2 I like, too. it's like back when jrpgs were still striving to be wrpgs instead of highschool simulators. The combat gameplay system was pretty keen, too, what a shame japan didn't copypaste THAT everywhere.

but not the Final Fantasies because Sqeenix put some kind of eyecancer sprites in thanks to them being ports of a shitty mobile remasters. Those new models clash horribly, horribly with the game. Who the hell thought that looked good? Probably the same kind of people who thought the Star Wars remasters looked good when all they did was insert a bunch of NEW NEW NEW but ugly shit everywhere.

Oroboros becomes a lot more interesting in the third TiTS game, and in the crossbell trails games and trails of cold steel

FFIX is the phone port, but isn't too bad
FFVII and FFVIII are the PC ports
FFIV is basically the DS port (which is good)
FFX, FFXI, FFXIII and FFXIII-2 are all just pc versions of the console games (the FFXIII port is much worse than FFX)

The IX port might have a bit too crisp NPC/PC models, but all the other improvements are so much worth it than trying to emulate the original.

It's just another one of Kawazu insane games. I honestly feel SaGa series is a much better game than Last Remnant but each has it's good parts (once you understand how the game works that is).

Like others have said, Grandia 2 and Legend of Heroes. Disgaea too, and Phantom Brave.
Final Fantasy is also definitely notable, but it's arguable if the Steam versions are actually good ports or not.
