Maybe the new one that's releasing?

>Recently received a PS4 as a gift without really wanting one
>Was not looking forward to any new games
>Find out about Dragon Quest XI

If this can hit the same vibe VIII did then I would not be able to describe my joy.

Also OP there was a thread recently about good games with a sense of adventure where a lot of people said The Witcher 3. Its definitely the same great adventure feel as DQ8.

But be warned that the moment someone mentions TW3 in a positive light the idiots crawl out of the woodwork and shit up the thread so I'm sorry.

>that one autist who has been making the same anti-witcher threads for over two years

I cant even imagine what goes on in that guys head.

Have they even confirmed a localization yet?

Why did you have to take it there?

i fucking loved dqviii's worldmap that didn't feel like a worldmap

too bad your reward for exploring was a random encounter every 3 goddamn steps

How come dqxi is in an enough of a polished state to be completed and release this year but kh3 isn't?

>Its definitely the same great adventure feel as DQ8.
Literally no.

The truth is if it was released nowadays, autists would whine about 'empty boring open world'

Because every talented developer from Square left after the merger with Enix, while Enix stayed.

Yeah that's why everyone hated Xenoblade.

Because Nomura want to make the perfect game ;)

>DQ8 remake doesn't have the orchestrated soundtrack

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

This is the sole reason I gave up playing it and also the reason I'll be picking up the 3ds game

Thank god they got rid of random battles, I just wish the composer wasn't so xenophobic

Until they replace him with that hack Tabata again...

>tfw over 700 hours of gameplay on this one
How can a game be so comfy. Even 12 years later it's still a really good game.

Probably this
People shit on w3 combat all the time but it's still a relatively good RPG game. Most RPG game tend to get light on their content when they focus on graphic, Witcher didn't.

So why was the orchestrated music gone in the NA DQVII?

You are such a baby.

But be glad, they made it so in DQXI there are o random encounters.

This. DQ8 is just so pleasant. Everything from the town, music, and graphics makes everything so enjoyable. It's one of the top 10 games of all time for me.

What's the combat like in DQ7/8?

>tw3
>dq8

wow, thats wrong you fucking retard

If you read all of what I said the 3ds remake won't have random encounters

Sugiyama is a Japanese nationalist and xenophobe who doesn't want to licence his orchestrated music to the west

The best part of TW3 is just you doing quests for random villagers.

>hey witcher, my wife/son/husband is missing
>go to track her down with your witcher sense
>OH SHIT S/HE WAS KIDNAPPED/MURDERED/POSSESED BY SOME MONSTER

literally every single sidequest.

Every DQ game is like that
8 is one of the worsts in the series

Why are westerners such 8/5 fags

WHICH ARE THE BEST THEN

3, 4 and 10

What the fuck, WHY HAVEN'T I PLAYED DQ BEFORE?!

If they're all alike, how is VIII the worst? Shouldn't they be on par with one another then?

No it's not you shitter
It's among the best along with v and iii
I've played them all

with the massive success of dragon quest builders theyll probably localize it in hopes of another fluke

>10

youtube.com/watch?v=WCMRiZx78Jk

You will probably find the old ones "clumsy" or "outdated" happens every time with the 8 babies

So play 5 and see if you like it, it has the highest chance of you enjoying it

Only 4 party members, no job system, alchemy system requiring walking around (fixed in 3DS version) skill point system is very very rough and not fun (fixed in 9 onwards), very limited party chat compared to 7 on ps1.

It is, its still an amazing game though because all DQ games are amazing

You need to play it, its really the best right now.

I'll try and get my hands on V then.

Not in actual announcement. However

"Dragon Quest Builders and Dragon Quest Heroes – in order to soften up the ground for Dragon Quest XI"

Does give some hope for DQ11. But what I want to know is who is going to publish it. Right now Nintendo has been the one of publish all the mainline DQ games since DQ6 (DQ6, 7, 8, and 9 plus Joker 2) while SE handled all the other side games. If SE is the one to publish DQ11 than I'm guessing Switch and PS4 are both going to come out. If Nintendo is the one to publish then only the Switch version is coming here.

Also 10 more days until DQ8 and I can't wait. Yes it looks slightly worse than the PS2 version but I still can't wait for that game.

Oh 11 is coming no doubt, the question is when.
We could get it more then a year later than the Japanese.

3, 4, 5, 6, 8

Though there is no real reason to not play 1 and 2 on GBA.

>someone else that likes 6

My negro I love 6

As I said I really just wonder if SE will be the publisher or if Nintendo will take that role again.
You mean GBC and honestly SNES version of 1 and 2 (fan translation) is the way to go personally.
DQ7 is honestly my first and favorite Dragon Quest but I understand when people say it's not the best place to start

Seriously
youtube.com/watch?v=dxaRxjcvIR4

Its witcher so you know that all you're going to find in that expansive world is:

>Samey looking medieval towns.
>Boring monsters, most of them humanoid
>Random monster slaying quests in which you fight the above

Witcher 3 would have been a much better game if it had Dragon Quest's aesthetics and monster design.

So they should have made a slightly better Monster Hunter?

>tfw I'll never get to play Dragon Quest 8 because I'm super autistic about playing game series in order and I didn't like the first two games so I've been putting off playing the 3rd

If you completed 1 and 2 you should play 3, dumb frogposter

DQ1 and 2 are nice if you can get into the mindset of when it was made. DQ1 is easy if way too grindy (which since the game can be beaten even with the grind in less than a day is alright to me). But yeah DQ2 is a pain in so many ways. It's grindy, confusing in what to do, way too many hidden objects you need, a party member that is completely useless, Rhome ect.

I'm going to import the ps4 version on release, but I'll be kekking to high heaven if nintendo publishes it and DQ11 becomes a defacto nintendo exclusive in the west.

youtube.com/watch?v=XQGyfmcJulg

is DQXI 60fps?

Well Horii and Enix has always had a pretty good relation with Nintendo even when they movie to Sony in the PSX/PS2 days. Since their handhelds always had some DQ game on it. And they have been really close to Nintendo for a good while now with the 3DS. Plus I think there was a quote from them saying they might be a Switch version of DQ Builders because Nintendo works so well with Dragon Quest.

They've been releasing DQ games on the ps4, why would they piss off a fanbase they have been building up?

DQXI on the switch will be a scaleddown ps4 version.

name 3 quests doing same thing

>JRPG
>turn based
>endless sequels, same shit with final fantasy

>2017
>still frogposting

>2017
>still smug_anime_girl.jpg posting

I can't say for DQ7, but 8 had pretty pretty standard combat for the DQ series. No huge changes, but they included a tension mechanic that becomes pretty important throughout the game.

desu the version you should play for 1 or 2 is iOS/Android

That's actually the worse version. Mobile has a bug where you have to be past a certain level or the game literally becomes unbeatable because the final boss just keeps throwing it's ultimate attack at you. Well mobile of DQ2 might actually be good with the sparkle that points out items on the ground which helps with crest hunting and I heard it makes Cannock much better. But the sparkle fucks up DQ1 since the game literally tells you where things are and you are meant to get them based on what they say. But with the sparkle you get things like the armor and flute before the game tells you about them which takes away the feeling of exploring and talking to NPC

>comes to Sup Forums
>hates anime
You're so funny, reddit.

Even Horii is a 5 fag

3 is when it starts to get good amigo, 4 is quick and easy, 5 is the best, 6 is pretty good, 7 never ends, and then you get to play 8!

7 is figuratively and literally One Piece, great game with the shittiest pacing on the vidya industry.

Still my second favorite game.

I never got through the original on PlayStation but I'm really enjoying the 3DS version.

I like the little stories but I find the dungeons and exploration can be REAL short for the amount of talking leading up to them... Still pretty interesting characters and locales though

Not really. He just says he feels DQ5 has the best story which since it's the most story focus DQ game it's not a wrong opinion. Japan seem to feel DQ3 is the best DQ game but that's mostly because it came out right at the ultimate hight of JRPG on the NES. With DQ1 starting everything and everyone copying it over time. DQ2 helped showed how to slowly open up the game world (remember FF1 came out a few months after DQ2) and DQ3 came out just when everyone was making JRPG.

So to many Japanese DQ3 was just THE game that solidify what a RPG is.

I'm not saying that the stories are bad/uninteresting but the main plot is wayy to sparse over the game.

It has pacing problems just like One Piece doesn't mean that the subplots are bad tho.

If we're talking about a grand sense of adventure, but also a sense of whimsy, innocence, and "growing up" there's Earthbound, the Pokemon games, Ni No Kuni, Chrono Trigger, Persona 4, and maybe the Paper Mario / Super Mario RPGs?

True enough, I'm not even done with the yellow pedestals, have so much game ahead of me, and I think I'm around 30 hours already... Unless this shit picks up I'll never be done.

But that's the DQVII experience right?

Yeah I know that Japan has a huge boner for 3, but I've seen him being overprotective with 5.

it was his own goddamn fault in the first place for putting that horse but whatever

Guess he didn't really think they would go that far with that idea. Yeah his fault. But even when asked on a good place to start he did say DQ4 is the best place to start.
Would be true if not for the fact the localization team fuck that shit up. Ruining a fantastic game with accents that made the first few chapters a pain to read and removing the party chat.

> 5 is the most story heavy
> 7 is a million hours long, endless talking

VII your favorite or is another DQ number one?

Maybe it's me but I never bored in DQVII, have beaten it three times and loved it beginning to end. Only real complaint is Kiefer's arc is stupid as fuck.

Mostly meant how DQ5 is more focus on a single story. DQ7 is just a bunch of stories that ties into a greater whole. But the focus are always the smaller stories in each island.

>Keifer

Motherfucker ate all my STRseeds back on the day and decides to leave with the gypsy.... I was fucking pissed.

Fair point, I see what you mean

Is the SNES port the way to go to play 3? I've only played 8 and 5.

Can we stop the horse dick meme. Its a made up rumor with literally no source. Stop spouting everything you read here.

How's the NES version of 4?

I'm having buyer remorse over DQVII. Everyone is also saying 8 is better. Should i just play that one then

The Gameboy Colour version is pretty solid, played that a lot since I was a kid, but that could be nostalgia

If VII was your first DQ game it will hit you like a brick, buy VIII is more newly friendly.

Always give all the seeds to the main character is what I do. Except Wis/MP which I give to the mage.
Personal list
DQ1-3 - SNES
DQ4 - NES Really hate the localization of the DS version but other enjoy it so try it out and see. NES honestly has a great localization and honestly isn't that grindy.
DQ5 - DS or PS2 but I prefer the DS
DQ6 - DS
DQ7 - 3DS
DQ8 - Have to play it myself but 3DS is looking like the best version gameplay wise. But you can argue the lack of orchestrated soundtrack and it looking worse is enough to say the PS2 is the best to play
I love it. Localization is amazing not just at that time but it honestly is really good. You might be annoyed with going into menus and having to look up maps but if you can enjoy good NES RPG it's really the best of the best.

That's exactly what happened, I didn't want to wait for 8 to jump in so I bought 7... not the smartest move I've made

and? So they have DQ builders, Heroes, and soon XI a actual DQ game. The other PS4 games are different genres friendo, face it the PS4 was testing ground for different ideas they had that would not piss off their fan-base.

Actual spoiler
When you get Aira/Aishe any seeds you gave him the boost will be reflected in her being her ancestor
Yes, definitely the best version. Don't trust GBCfags, the stupid metals and shitty bonus dungeon are not worth sacrificing the beautiful art and music of the snes version.
Goodish. Dated but the translation is actually relatively close the famicom original surprising. Coming out so late nintendo wasn't so strict.
VII ismy favorite but most love VIII more, look into it. VII is not agood starting place if it's your first.

Just get it on PS2, it's the better version anyway.

I was a kid and I fell for the meme sword skill.

God seeing this reminds me of the bonus chapter of the DQ fan manga.

or maybe it could be that there hasn't been a mainline game since the DS, so of course it got spinoffs until XI

I haven't 100% witcher 3 so I can't speak for all quests being the same. But it got GOTY in my books as soon as I did one of the side quests involving the village with the elders and younger guys, village was being attacked by forest spirits or something. Elders wanted you to calm forest spirits, younger guys wanted you to fuck em up. I calmed them thinking it would be a everybodys happy scenario. Then the younger guys got mad and started a fight with elders when I got back. Fought younger dudes and killed em to save the elders, elders turned out to have been killed in the fight too. Whole village ended up looking deserted. This was just a fucking side quest.

>The version with less content and game mechanic fixes is the better version

Graphixfags need to leave.

You forgot to add the fucked up menu system.

Playing a game as beautiful as DQVIII in 240p in 2017 is a crime, I don't give a single fuck about "muh added features". It is impossible to get immersed in that world on a 3DS.

Wut? From the original? Don't really remember that.

But who cares, now the game won't be slow as shit.

youtube.com/watch?v=A4niGq40QXE

DQ8 3DS steam

Enjoy your slow ass battles, walking around and getting into random battles while trying to alchemise something. It still looks good even at 240p, so suck my dick.

See? Does not look so bad

>B-B-B-BUT MUH 4000kp RESOLUTION USIN MUH PEECEE

It looks fucking terrible, the colors are completely off and the sound is tinny as fuck. Play it the way it was intended, on a PS2.

I already did when it came out.
