Portals were nerfed. Now they spawn 1-5 enemies and then disappear, and they can still be killed before they disappear.
Is AB+ good now?

WAAAAH! I'm too stupid to focus on a priority target. Fix it, Edmund, fix it! Make the scary thing go away!
>Is AB+ good now?
not even close, the "new" enemy designs (read: rehashes) are still shit, with one being literally two enemies stacked on top of each other; the bosses fucking suck; the void is the laziest "chapter" they could possibly have made; the modding tools are a joke; delirium looks like shit - they didn't even try.
>make a shit dlc
>put a $10 pricetag on it
>make a shitter dlc that requires the shit dlc and has half as much content, if that
>put a $10 pricetag on it
>make it require having both dlc to have access to mods
>indie gaming
it's a shame as classic BoI was really based for it content updates and DLC (wrath of the lamb quite literally doubled the content of the base game); Rebirth showed a lot of promise, too, with its base release adding plenty of new content (about as much as wrath of the lamb) with promise of more to come. Then Afterbirth happened, with a lukewarm reception due to undercooked features and empty promises...then Afterbirth+ just takes a fat steaming shit in the game.
Oh well, at least we have the Antibirth developers and their modding API to look forward to, maybe they can make Isaac great again.
Now they're pointless. Why not just spawn those enemies directly?
I know people are going to shit on him regardless but I think its pretty nice that hes willing to update and try and balance everything to make it more fun even if sometimes it backfires
Is there still shit items?
Rebirth is still the best package honestly. Basically just a better version of the flash game which is all it needed to be. Play with old school music mods for maximum comf.
The difference is that classic BoI and WoTL were made by Florian, with design notes from Breadmund. Rebirth probably had Breadmund at least throwing a lot of design ideas at the nicalis team to keep them on track, but by the time Afterbirth and AB+ rolled around, Steakmillen doesn't seem to have given a fuck any more and it was all Nicalis's work.
Remove the pointless garbage pills, trinkets, spacebar items, and items that only exist to fuck up the % of getting fun/good things.
Stop nerfing the fun things.
Remove all nerfs on devil rooms.
Remove half soul hearts.
Remove all scaling bosses.
and that undoes a lot of the dmg the last two xpacs did.
I agree, Rebirth is the best overall despite some unusual changes (bombs seem far more common, resulting in secret rooms being less useful to counteract the balance; shops are insanely overpowered thanks to the shop item pool being a bit too strong overall; etc)
I think Edmund literally ran out of ideas, I believe he mentioned this at some point on the isaac blog (with AB+ being them "passing isaacover to the modders"; shame they fucked up the modding tools, then).
Do mimics have tells now?
No. You still have to deal with Hush's super armor to reach the new "chapter" where the final boss also has super armor. And he still telefrags you all the time
>priority targets
>hidden behind several obstacles
>can't hit them because they spawn enemies
>by the time you kill the enemies they spawn, another enemy spawns, preventing you from killing the priority target
>final boss also has super armor
I don't think he does or it's a lot less than hush, I got mega on a run and only did like a quarter of hush but killed delirium in a few seconds
Maybe not as much as Hush, but he still has an awful scaling with your damage
>spawn a stone fatty
>by the time you juke it out of the way 5 more enemies have spawned
All i know is the antibirth mushroom passive and lighter trinket are fun as fuck.
What's the main criticism of the workshop for AB+? Seems to work like any other workshop titles.
Mods disable progress aka noone wants to use them regardless of balance.
...
>What's the main criticism of the workshop for AB+?
The mod tools are pretty weak, the documentation is almost non-existent, using mods at an end-user level disables progression full-stop instead of being handled by a flag that deems things as functional or merely cosmetic.
They look like regular spiked chests, but without the spikes.
Achievement progress or in-game unlocks?
Mods would be great for aesthetic changes at the very least but that's gay if the disabling is true.
That's pretty nifty keen. Is it a mod?
Yes
very nice
>just make the game so easy that i can win every time despite making incredibly stupid decisions
Go play console games, holy fuck. PC is just starting to recover, it doesn't need more of this cancer.
Achievements and progress are one in the same. There's some nice UI and music mods you can't use because of this crap. It's ridiculous.
>create a game where the it's either a boring slog of nodamage or the game pretty much plays itself
>Make this almost entirely down to random chance
>Still bothers nerfing strong items, pretty much never buffing weaker ones
>Add yet more items, very few of which increase your damage meaning yet more runs where the challenge is trying not to fall asleep
What's even the point? If he wants something balanced the only thing that can be done is start over from scratch.
Steakmund still has it in his mind that he can make Isaac into another 'hardcore' game like SMB, and he's become completely fixated on that singular vision. Of course that misses the entire point of procedurally generated roguelikes, but by god he's going for it anyway, even while everyone is screaming at him to stop.
The problem with portals is not the portal itself, it's the fact they appear from the very start of the game, aka when your shot is fucking shit and everything is easy but tedious and long.
In fact everyone spams reset till they find a good item for that very same reason, because in basically every roguelite everyone fucking hates the beginning, so they at least hope to find a fun weapon to toy with. Nobody wants to go through the chore of clearing the first one or two areas with your shit starter weapon. (This is one of the main reasons Enter the Gungeon is unpopular)
Antibirth has basically walking portals (the white running dudes) that can sometimes even summon more of themselves, but nobody ever complained because they spawn in a part of the game where you don't really care about that anymore.
Tl;Dr nobody wants to spend 10 minutes clearing the first floor because they have a shit weapon and every room is portals and fat guys. It's not because of the difficulty, it's because it's fucking boring.
>scaling bosses
>good
>it's the fact they appear from the very start of the game
And they only shit out stuff that dies in 2 hits
>In fact everyone spams reset till they find a good item for that very same reason
This is how I know you're shit at the game.
>10 minutes clearing the first floor because they have a shit weapon
>10 minutes on the first floor
>ever
This is also how I know your shit at the game
not that dude but a lot of people complain about the slow start that is isaac
and its not about the difficulty its just slow and boring
I too enjoy wasting my time with shit damage . If you don't beat Delirium with base damage every run you're shit
If you don't hammer rusty nails into your ballsack while beating delirium with base damage, you're shit. Hardcore is being masochistic, having fun is casual.
