They're stuck in an awkward spot because they insist on being a toy company

the wii was a massive success and the guy behind it either died or committed sudoku

Nostalgia

Wii U happened

No games after the Wii.

The wii was a freak accident.

Nintendo has been in a gradual downward spiral since the PS1 era.

They stuck with some pretty strange design decisions in the N64 and GC days and alienated Third-Party developers and the general gamer.

This continued with the Wii but it got huge due to the whole motion-control gimmick. They thought they could do it again with the Wii U but they released an underpowered console on top of not knowing how to optimise for HD gaming and how costly it actually was.

Now they are doing the same thing they did with the Wii U - a stupid gimmick with a gimped console that struggles on (supposedly) well-optimised first-party games. It's, of course, not going to get any love from Third-party companies and not going to get the attention of the general consumer that either buys a Playstation or Xbox.

Nintendo need to develop a simple console that can run games - that's it. Just shove the Volta-equivalent of the 1050 ti in it and give out dev kits to AAA developers. Nothing more, nothing less.

sure it was user.

failure after failure

Yeah, becoming Japan's largest corporation for years and satying one of the most profitable businesses in the world, let alone in the industry, was all a freak accident. RIPtendo.

I mean, their GAMES have gone straight downhill, that much is true. But their business is booming and has always been.

Nintendo consoles got their asses handed to them by the PS1, PS2, PS4 and whatever Sony will be bringing out now. That's a very poor record.

The point was it was never sustainable.

The Wii was fucking built off of novelty value and good marketing alone dude. That's it.

Remember the Nintendrone who thought it was all part of some big blue ocean strategy?

I'll sum it up. Their previous president left.
Iwata really made a mess. Hes a game man not business man. New president needs to work his balls off to fix all of this. Should have halted the NX when he got in to power and reworked it. We will have to see how he handles the next console.

Nothing in entertainment is ever permanently marketable. Everything is a temporary gimmick.

>Nintendo need to develop a simple console that can run games - that's it. J

The actual principle of the Switch (creating a tablet that can act as both handheld and home console and negates the need for two separate product line ups) is a good idea, both in terms of utility to consumer and in terms of business.

It's just horribly, horribly underpowered and expensive to boot.

Small SoCs just aren't at the level where tablets can support home console gaming levels of graphical fidelity yet.

They had me. They really did. Until they filled the remote with innumerable gimmicks. Traditional controllers always work. Every other control gimmick gets ignore 99% of the time.

The playstation and xbox figured out that the best controller is the one the player knows how to use. 3 fucking decades later and nintendo still trying to reinvent the wheel and failing.

This shitposting from sonyggers is really pissing me off.

What do you mean user? Nintendo did a great job and convinced me to make the SWITCH to PS4 Pro

If anything they keep trying to create the next Wii and failing massively. It's gimmick after gimmick but what they don't realise is that people don't give a shit about WiiFit or WiiSports anymore.

>Pay to play p2p networking with Rent-a-Rom feature

It's like they want to Dreamcast themselves

>It's just horribly, horribly underpowered and expensive to boot.
That's why it's such a bad idea - you can't create a powerful handheld without charging an arm and a leg. What they could have done is something similar to the Shield - a dedicated streaming device. They already have a partnership with Nvidia so it was a bit of a no-brainer.

Go watch a gamxplain video if they trigger you so easily

HI EVERYONE DEREK HERE, REGGIE SENT ME PAIR OF THONGS TO MASTURBATE INTO. WE GOT A FEW SECONDS WITH THE NINTENDO SWITCH AND WE CAN CONFIRM THAT BREATH OF THE WILD WILL BE THE GAME OF THE YEAR ALL YEARS EVERY YEAR UNTIL A NEW ONE COMES OUT.

OH SHIT ITS ANDRE, CUM TALK INTO YOUR HEADSET ANDRE.
-
HEY GUYS ANDRE HERE, I JUST DONE PUSHING THIS NINTENDO SWITCH RECREATED MODEL INTO MY ASS SO WHEN IT COMES OUT FOR YOUTUBERS I HAVE A PROPER GAPING ASSHOLE FOR IT WHEN IT ARRIVES

The Wii might of been a commercial success but it was still Nintendo's downfall spiral into casualization and mass market appeal.

I was considering buying it up until the point they talked about paid online

quite a lot.

NINTENDO WHY DID YOU DO THIS YOU FUCKING RETARDS; GIMMICKS, MORE GIMMICKS, PORTABLE SHIT. WILL WE EVER GET A NORMAL HOME CONSOLE FROM YOU, I FUCKING HATE YOU

>What went wrong?
Not making a new F-Zero game for 13 years
They teased us with this then silently revealed it's a fucking port of fast racing neo
WHERE IS F-ZERO

Unless you have quite a bit of disposable cash you're not bothered about, I'm curious as to why you would want to purchase one except for Zelda?

There's going to be a lot of people in the same position as me who bought the WiiU, and will never buy the Switch because of the route they're going down, and I can also just buy BOTW for WiiU. The Switch just seems redundant from the start.

they honestly believe their brand is still strong as it was 20 years ago

Let me put it this way ... I don´t own a ps4 yet, no way I buy Switch at the current price point for Zelda&Mario.

Where did the myth that Nintendo is somehow more consumer friendly than Sony/MS ever start?

They've always been some of the most egregious practitioners of anti-consumer practices, right? I mean they're still doing region locking for goodness sake.

Didn't think shitposting faggots would make one of these this quickly.
Every year, all the time, awful, retarded people have to shit on nintendo because they think their garbage console is superior. Every goddamn time anything Nintendo happens, it's shit on constantly by retarded shitposting faggots that have nothing to contribute to this board or society in general. Please kill yourself instantly, your kind don't belong on earth.

The first fucking thing the did was to show off new fucking motion control gimmicky bullshit.

Feel the icecubes bro.

Seriously? I thought they would honestly try to distance themselves from that kind of nonsense.

What the fuck have Nintendo actually been doing for the past two years? Where are all the games? The main launch hook is a fucking Wii U port!

Reminder that 1-2-Switch is a full priced launch title. Jesus fuck.

Nintendo is trying to make the Wii2.

>cross platform Zelda at launch
>focus on motion controls
>ditch major properties in favour of sovelware games to show the "innovation" of the system

That or someone told the heads Sony and Microsoft were pushing HD on the PS4 and Xbone so they made HD rumble, not HD graphics.

Not that guy
WiiU was a massive clusterfuck in practically every regard, so I don't blame you for being cautious about the switch. I didn't even buy a WiiU because the only major releases were hot garbage. It really does seem like they're turning it around this time.
showing off decent looking games, actually making a real zelda and mario, not picking a retarded name to confuse normies, advertising it, etc
They're making all the right moves, and it feels like there's been an ethics shift behind the scenes. They know they can't afford another WiiU tier fuckup, and they're making all the right moves so far.

>full priced launch title
Yeah, no. 40€ while Zelda is 70€

no melee hd

>release pokemon and mario on mobile
>dominate the world in ridiculously competative markets
Nintendo's brand is still strong, if not stronger. They can get people's attention easily, they just can't do anything with it lately

We now live in an age where $40 is not considered full price for a fucking video game.

What a time to be alive.

Nintendo don't like splitting up pricing so they don't devalue their games
It's retarded, and you end up with shit like Nintendoland and Wii Sports being full price games
It'll inevitably be bundled with the system though

The same games perhaps?
Mario Kart 1.5
I haven't played Splatoon for over a year, but it looks the exact same to me.

Those horrid jaggies on all the games? I just moved over to PC and PS4 and now I'm staring to really notice lower resolutions, jaggies and stretched, bad textures in things.

The same shit, again and again.

Look, I appreciate they concentrated on first party for this launch, but half of it feels like they know they fucked up the Wii U and are just trying to repackage it back to us, knowing a lot of people skipped the Wii U.

32GB storage? are you fucking joking?
I keep trying to tell myself it's between a 3ds and a wii u, so that this all makes sense.

I knew I'd wake up dissapointed today.

I'm excited for Xenoblade 2, but I won't be buying one of these things for at least a year until a few things build up.
I've been fooled too many times by nintendo and their shitty VC model, and how they just fucking dropped the Wii U in 2016 like a wet sack of garbage.

It has been a toy company from more than 100 years

you sound pretty mad mate, it must be hard to defend a joke of a company who keeps making gimmicks and now has come out with yet another trash gimmick something that is the equivalent to an xbox 360 which is 12 years old lol

If they launched the Switch with the new Zelda, Mario and a Donkey Kong along with a HD version of previous titles with a few new features such as characters for Kart/Smash etc would it have went better?

Looking back after shaking off being a Nintendo Fanboy, you're absolutely right.

I really desperately wanted fun games, and around 2009-2010 I clung to my Wii basically because we were starting to see a stagnation in western games in the ps3-360 era.

That doesn't excuse the fact they've always handled things badly.

They're too stubborn and arrogant. They have an antiquated way of feeling, about consoles being toys and for family.
It just seems so bizarre in comparison to something like the SNES.

Yet somehow set the standard through NES and SNES era for the games we have today? It was only when Playstation arrived that they decided to start all this gimmick shit.

A big problem is that they're trying to push things people aren't ready for.

The future will probably swing in favor of "the one device" for normies, but the switch is a closed device for Nintendo software.

It's not an open tablet that also acts as a phone, your tv and can also hook into the tv and play games. It has a lot of restrictions, and people are used to convenience now since the advent of smartphones and tablets.

This is an expensive bit of kit for a portable device, I'm not going to be taking it anywhere with me. I wish it was just a core console with no tablet, until we get to that point where we have more open, powerful tablets where I can see games being third party.

Much like Apple, gimmicks over performance and functionality.

I love Nintendo. I'm just fed up with seeing them hinder their own practices with bad choices.

They're too arrogant, it's got to stop. They still don't learn after huge losses.

Nothing in the long term

Paid online.

Holy fuck, paid online. The one thing Nintendo was doing right over the other big consoles was not charging for online and they fucked it up.

This article gives a insight into how fucked up Nintendo's mentality is behind closed doors.

web.archive.org/web/20130819010845/http://www.notenoughshaders.com/2013/08/15/the-struggles-of-marketing-the-gamecube

>tfw part of the reason I got Nintendo consoles was because of the free online play.
There is nothing that's pushing me to get this other than the Zelda game.

focus on gimmicks instead of good hardware.

it all started with the wii. the last good nintendo system was the SNES, which coincidentally had the best hardware at the time. (for the price, 3do was fucking $1000 or whatever).

Nintendo never operate a "no paid online" strategy out of concern for the consumer. The e-shop is unarguably the biggest rip off of any of the major digital distribution stores (Steam, PSN, XBL, GoG etc).

They did it because they knew they didn't have a systematic system to monetize in the first place.

Now they're trying to monetize something that's objectively much worse than its competitors.

We need to destroy Nintendo.

no it started with the Wii, much later

but to be fair they always tried to implement a lot of weird shit like the power glove and the virtual boy

literally every major console sold less then the NES, even the SNES sold less units. It's been a declining trend.

well considering every time someone criticizes nintendo they go MUH SONEEEEE I think it's fitting that it works in both ways

I am not paying to play Splatoon online.

pokemon and mario are extremely well known names and can pander to nostalgia, add the fact that the phone market is the best performing one right now. I'm kinda surprised by the success of Mario Run but the Go's one could be seen by a mile

No backwards compatibility.

$300 waggle vita

Final Fantasy 7 was the game that hurt Nintendo the most. Suddenly you no longer forced to stick with Nintendo consoles to play AAA titles.

Its been downhill for Nintendo ever since.

Those sitting in the big chairs truly believe that Nintendo can hit it big again like they did with the Wii. Some kind of gimmicky motion sensor/simulation control bullshit that all the kids will beg their mothers for. They absolutely believe in this, because they know they cannot challenge sony or microsoft otherwise.

This portable system idea is just another attempt. They've given up on appealing to adult gamers, relying entirely on nostalgia titles to draw them in.

even then the Zelda game you can pirate on Wii U, and CEMU is getting really good.

Let's talk about the most possible situation:

Zelda: BOTW will sell more NS's in a week than Bloodborne/Uncharted/isthereanythingelse? has sold PS4's since it's release.

Oh wait, Bloodborne didnt even manage to sell more than 3 million games.

Underage faggots with and cancerous MAX GRAPHIX noobs who do not understand the appeal of the good Zelda games and the other good shit that Nintendo will release for the switch should just abstain from posting.

Hardware matters not. The Switch will be a financial success, Zelda alone guarantees it.

Just wait for Pokemon, Golden Sun, Metroid Prime, Melee HD, Smash 4, Dragon Quest X west release, DQXI

Nintendo won way before the presentation.

Also, this comes from someone who only enjoyed the last five minutes of such presentation, i dont delude myself ignoring the fact the games i mentioned above will eventually come out and NOTHING in any other console can even compete.

YOU TOLD ME HE WOULD FIX IT!

YOU SAID WE WOULD UNDERSTAND I DON'T UNDERSTAND AT ALL

Jesus Christ.

How do you sane Nintendo users deal with people like this?

Why are they so crazy?

400€ for console + pro controller here
paid online that somehow involves you using your smartphone to chat with friends
only nintendo launch games are 1 2 switch and zelda botw
>no pokemon announced
>no metroid announced
>no monster hunter announced

>no interesting bundles

so yeah for these reasons I'll actually be a smart consumer unlike before and NOT buy one right away. Despite being a nintendrone I'll wait for a good bundle and hopefully MH.

I saw you in the other thread.

Zelda will sell NS's like crazy, no matter what kind of hardware the console has.

What's the problem in mentioning games that are obviously coming out for the console too? Scared?

im gonna spam that shit in every fucking thread

nintendo may be a shit company but god damn they have the better games by far, and that's what matters

fuck niggers

Is this pasta

>obviously
nothing is obvious until it's announced, faggot. especially when it comes to fucking metroid

Now it is.

>280 bongs
>have to use phone app for voice communication
>paid online
>tablet apu

JUST

yeah, i'm sure Zelda will sell more than 8 million in the first week.
i doubt Nintendo will even stock that many Switches

>nintendo may be a shit company but god damn they have the better games by far, and that's what matters

oh, so you're one of THOSE guys

Did you forget that botw is on wii u as well?

why can't they get developers to make games for the first 3 months after launch?

WHY CAN'T THEY DO IT?

ALL THEY SHOWED WAS ZELDA WHICH IS ON WII U TOO, SPLA2N WHICH YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR ONLINE NOW, AND MARIO WHICH LOOKS LIKE SONIC '06

ALL THE GOOD GAMES WERE THE KIND OF ANNOUNCEMENT TEASERS YOU GET AT E3 A WHOLE 3 YEARS BEFORE THE GAME COMES OUT FINALLY

Because the WiiU is a lesson that having a shitton of first-party heavyweights alone cannot hold a console. XBox cannot rely on CoD to stay afloat, just like Switch can't rely on Zelda, Mario, Pokemon and Smash.

TP was also on GC and it only sold 15% of total game sales.

TP sold Wii's like fucking crazy. What makes you think an even MORE hyped game wont?

top delusion

A lot of people already bought wii u's for the new zelda, meaning what's going to sell switches is other games for the most part.

>even MORE hyped game

come on bruh, do I really need to post the TP e3 video?

So you own no consoles?

Such good memories.

Why are they rushing this thing out to launch when they have fucking nothing outside of Zelda to go with it? Q1 is so stacked with games and for some reason they decided to put it in March when a shit tonne of cames will be coming out? Wouldn't it make more sense to launch a little later when there aren't many games around it?

I wonder too. It feels like releasing it in May would've been a better idea.

>We need to destroy Nintendo.

They are doing a good job doing it by themselves already

>until our paid online service launches in fall 2017.
> paid online service

>1% drop

Come on, son.

>tfw you lived long enough to see Nintendo die through suicide

I really hope opinions on the Switch continue to get more and more negative prior to launch. The more negative consensus is, the higher chance Nintendo will try to fix things like Microsoft did after the catastrophic XBone reveal.

It's baffling how Nintendo STILL doesn't understand that nobody cares about gimmick shit.

Make a console with good hardware, a simple and efficient controller, an affordable price and make use of your IPs. Imagine if they created a new Metroid, Mother or shit like that. It'd be amazing.

Its down by almost 6% now.

shares usually drop after a tech reveal because people try to sell to interested investors.

>Shares fell 5.75pc, down sharply during Nintendo’s event, and wiping 205bn yen (£1.5bn) off the company’s value.

>>Make a console with good hardware,

Not even Sony and MS believes this line of shit, otherwise they would never put Netflix and Hulu support on the consoles. Even the 3DS has this shit. Consoles cannot be pure 'game boxes' anymore, otherwise even a $400-500 PC and a smartphone that can take apps will shit on them.
