From the way they worded it, it sounded like the actual online gaming component is free, but the social network (friend list, chat rooms, voice chat messaging etc.) has a sub fee, which given nintendos history of not supporting that kind of thing makes sense. Those that want it can get it, those that don't want it/small children don't have to. It's actually a pretty smart way to keep the kiddies and adults separate.

Still pretty Jewish though.
