How do people get shoehorned into Mechanical keyboards? How do people get fooled into buying $100+ keyboards when they do the same exact thing as a normal $10-$20 keyboard, except light up.
Every friend of mine who's recently gotten into PC gaming think it's a necessity.
Casuals just wouldn't understand, it's a gamer thing.
Gabriel Brooks
They feel better than a 20$ dome board. They also last for years and years without a single key becoming mushy.
I've tried other boards, but I always come back to my basic 6gv2 with cherry blacks. Not expensive as far as mech boards go.
The real offender is 100$ rubber dome boards with rgb lighting and "gamer" features out the ass.
Andrew Morgan
They last longer, won't fuck you when you need to press 3 keys at once, and feel good to type on.
Rubber dome/membrane keyboards feel like shit to type on.
Elijah Rodriguez
It's expensive, so it must be worth it!
Dylan Martinez
Tried one and definitely did not want to go back. Feels much better to type on and I like the physical and audio feedback from typing.
If you don't want to buy one then don't, no one is forcing your hand.
Kevin Price
They're worth it, and last for ages. Although you definitely don't need one.
Logan Smith
they go on sale for like 40 to 80 all the time.
Juan Jackson
It feels better. Games play better.
I guess a poorfag that never owned one wouldn't understand though.
Parker Brown
If you played rhythm games on keyboard you would understand
Colton Brooks
You don't need one, but once you get one, you can't go back. They make budget ones nowadays too that go for $45-$60, which is a good price for a decent keyboard that'll last you a long time
Eli Foster
It's worth it if you use your computer for more than just browsing the internet. I wanted a keyboard that had a more solid construction and was more reliable than the shitty 8 dollar Chinese shits I'd been using forever, and any high-quality keyboard is mechanical. Quality membrane chicklets just don't exist.
I do wish there was more variety in good quality keyboards that weren't ricer shit with lights everywhere and gamer tags that jack the price up.
Camden Martinez
mechanical keyboards are no longer as expensive as that. apparently cherry's patent ran out on the microswitches and the chinese being the asian niggers that they are have started producing their own microswitches using the same-ish technique for a same-ish end product. you can buy chinese keyboards with a blue microswitch in amazon for about 30-40 bucks now and it feels the same as any other cherry microswitch.
Eli Brown
If you're playing a game and need to use a skill bound to Control key, while you're moving diagonally and holding Shift to sprint, you're fucked on a $10-20 keyboard.
Oliver King
People get shoehorned in buying apple and nintendo products.
Bentley Davis
Bro you telling me you don't have a keyboard touchscreen so you can quickly access your favorite social media sites or stream videos while getting your game on?
Juan Martin
funny you posted that keyboard. it used to be Func and cost 80$ but then Fnatic bought them, slapped their logo on it and put the price up to 130$.
OT: you can get a mechanical keyboard for 50 bucks and it's nice to type on. nothing more to it.
Easton Garcia
>How do people get fooled into buying $100+ keyboards when they do the same exact thing as a normal $10-$20 keyboard, except light up
I think you're conflating mechanical keyboards with 'gamer' keyboards.
Mechanical refers to the use of mechanical switches, such as the various Cherry MX switches. People like me choose mechanical keyboards for their consistent feel and long lifespan. Cheaper rubberdome keyboards wear out and deteriorate much faster, and don't feel as satisfying to type on.
Mech keyboards are often (though not always) of a higher general build quality than rubberdome keyboards.
Flashing RGB lights and other gamer shit are a completely different topic. You can buy normal mech keyboards or you can buy riced out gaymen keyboards if they float your boat.
Jonathan Long
Mostly different feel. I dropped $150+ on a Filco back in 2011, way before the insane hype train got going and while I love the thing, it's really nothing that special aside from the typing feel and build quality. A humble Logitech K120 is something like $20, feels surprisingly good to type on and is functionally identical to any ultra expensive gayming keyboard outside of silly edge cases even most esports faggots will never see, unless they explicitly go looking for them.
Jackson Gonzalez
herd mentality
anytime I hear clack clack I know I'm playing with a easily influenced person
Xavier Cox
get a ducky one and type on it for 5 minutes and tell me it isn't night and day better than a $5 rubberdome piece of shit
Thomas Brooks
tfw had the same membrane keyboard for like 10 years and it's loud as fuck
Robert Thomas
newegg sells $30 mechanical keyboards ($80 with a mail in rebate) like all the time. I've picked up three different cherrys
they aren't expensive anymore
Jaxson Hill
>Do the same exact thing Except they don't. They have typically lower weight thresholds to depress, and actuate at only half as opposed to a membrane where you have to push the entire way down. This means you can get more speed and build better response as long as you develop an appropriate adaptation to the half-way actuation point (mashing the key all the way over touch typing will see little benefit).
In addition, you have more control over the feel of your keyboard, choosing either tactile bump or linear. Typing on blues/browns for example is an absolute treat when you're touch typing.
In addition they're much easier to clean and care for, not that you won't need to because they last considerably longer than a membrane keyboard. I've gone through like 3 membrane keyboards in the past that all broke down under short time frames. My old Rosewill keyboard still works just fine and I neglected the shit out of it.
Jaxson Morales
>Getting your game on
I know you're making a joke but when people say that un-ironically it makes me cringe so hard
Kevin Hernandez
>How do people get shoehorned into Mechanical keyboards?
What did he mean by this
Adrian Perez
Input delay, anti-ghosting, and the speed at which a button is pressed.
I remember playing Tribes ascend having skii as shift, and on my old keyboard if I was skii-ing and going in a diagonal direction, if I did any other action (weapon change, jump, vga's, etc...) all of my inputs on my keyboard would stop. This is a big problem because I become limited in my actions, and I had to plan ahead what I wanted to do instead of reacting to things.
SHAZBOT
Nathan Ortiz
They feel great.
>How do people get fooled into buying $100+ keyboards I got mine for $40 and it's the highest quality keyboard I have ever used.
James Williams
I just bought one for $50 and Typing of the Dead became 10x funner.
Landon Gonzalez
What keyboard?
Ayden James
the quality thing is only kind of true. the more expensive, the more durable. I had a Rosewill RGB80, shit only lasted 6 months. it literally lost all power, and doesn't turn on.
Ryder Wright
>except light up BURH IT GLOWS LOOK EVERY TIME I HIT A KEY IT RIPPLES OUT LIGHTS COOL AS FUCK seriously I love the ripple light effect thing on this keyboard
Daniel Kelly
I enjoy the clicky clacking sounds and I got a discount on mine from work. I've probably spent as much as this one that I would have had to rebuy membrane/dome ones.
Andrew Allen
I got this mechanical keyboard for $60, it has no lights, and its lasted my 4 years so far.
I got it because I have to do a lot of typing for my job and the dome keyboards would get mushy keys from gaming. So I normally spent 20 dollerydoos per keyboard and having this for 4 years has saved me 20 dollerydoos.
Lincoln Anderson
rollover is a thing, user.
That being said, I gave my mechanical keyboard to my wife and went back to using this fucking mana from the gods.
Ryder White
It's the feel. Shit for gaymen, but great for shitpostan and other great works.
My nigger, I have the same thing, but only because I couldnt find a cheap Mech one Mine even has the nasty dust on it
Evan Lewis
They are undoubtedly the greatest rubber dome keyboards ever made.
Noah Perry
...
Tyler Harris
I'm a programmer. I type for a living.
No way in hell am I ever going back to a mushy keyboard.
Evan Bailey
Topre
Nolan Edwards
so am i everyone in the office hates you for your loud autism keys
Camden Edwards
Switched from old Acer mechanical keyboard to Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000 and I have never looked back.
Still using it after almost 10 years.
Jason Williams
This is the reason I stopped using mechs. I know some switches are quieter than others, but I had browns and still couldn't stand the sound after awhile.
Owen Watson
That looks like gaymer shit
Isaiah Johnson
There's plenty of variety if you're not looking at keyboards marketed with gamers in mind.
There a high quality decades old boards you should look into.
Aiden Ortiz
Nice luxury rubberdome, I use one at work.
Camden White
Lul I bought a returned Corsair keyboard for around $90 because the logo was the "tramp stamp" according to the sales guy. Was worth way more than that but I guess some people REALLY care about what their hardware looks like. One of the best purchases I've made regarding PC
Logan Russell
Best keyboard coming through
Owen Hall
no numpad
not doubleshot
in le trash
Xavier Long
how many numbers do you type
Liam Gutierrez
you're such a free thinker bro wow
Jaxon Sanders
10
Brayden Taylor
nice
Jordan Evans
>he thinks a gayming mouse and keyboard will make him better >he's still in the bottom 20% in every vidya he plays
There is nothing that will help a gaymer in competitive unless you don't have 1080/60/high at least to fucking see actions fluidly.
Landon Thomas
CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK CLACK CLICK CLICK CLICK
Joseph Brown
k65 mx reds is literally the best keyboard ever
Grayson Torres
I find ibm model ms at thrift stores all the time for 5-10 dollars and sell them on ebay for around 75
Jaxson Sanders
So I'm thinking about getting this keyboard with Brown Switches. What dya guys think?
Juan Rogers
>buy a bunch of NOS clicky model m's for $6 each >5 years ago >still sitting in their boxes doing nothing
Jordan Hill
I've got a corsair with brown switches. Pretty good.
Hunter Diaz
Tactile feeling, durability, and accuracy. And $100+ is just for 'extreme pro boards' like you see on Sup Forums. I bought an Epik Gamer Board from Coolermaster with cherry blues and just turned the lights off. It cost me $60. Totally worth it.
Mechanical keyboards are pretty good for MMORPG's. God knows how annoying it was that some skill just didn't register because they keyboard was shit.
Jonathan Mitchell
I was actually looking at that one myself but I gotta have the numpad man. It just makes number typing so much easier for me.
What's so gay about it? I like colors.
What do you mean?
Jason Stewart
Most "normal $10-20" keyboards have ghosting, which can prevent input during gameplay when you are both moving with WASD and trying to press some of the other keys nearby.
Even if you don't want to shell out $100 for a mechanical, you shouldn't buy a shitty $10 rubber dome.
Cameron Cruz
the colors are gay
Dylan Wright
Those coloured keycaps don't look pleasing at all. Know of any with coloured metal backplates?
Parker Long
i liek my cooler master masterkey
doesn't look like gamur shit
Ian Edwards
>tfw had a rubber dome keyboard that has lasted for almost a decade and still worked fine >tfw wasted $100 and fell for the mechanical keyboard meme
Dylan Young
You don't NEED mechanical keyboards, especially if you're just using it for gaymes.
That aside, they are quite desirable for typing, they certainly feel nice to type with, moreso once you learn not to bottom-out they keypresses.
I actually have a mechanical keyboard with n-key rollover hooked up to my PS/2 port that I slide back into my table when I play games. (keyboard "tray" can hold 3 large keyboards)
I have my cheap USB "GAYMEN" rubber-dome keyboard with backlights for that.
I DO use a CM Storm Recon, though I only paid 15 USD for it, so I feel I got a good deal.
Adrian Garcia
Once you've used a mechanical keyboard you never want to go back to those ghetto rubber dome keyboards ever again.
Brandon Rodriguez
mechanical keyboards arent expensive. you can get them for 40-50$
if you buy "gaming gear" you are retarded anyways. doesnt matter what it is
Henry Howard
Also, mechanical keyboards don't "light up" those are backlights, and are an option for mechanical and rubber-dome alike.
You can geat decent cheaper mechanical keyboards good for typing that don't have backlights just as you can get expensive backlit rubber-dome "gaymer" keyboards.
tl;dr: don't shoe-horn all mechanical keyboards into "overpriced gamer shit" because they are victims of the trend, not culprits.
Jason Flores
Fuck people who use memechanical keyboards, I can't fucking stand playing with someone and all I hear is CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK over the mic, NOTHING is more annoying when playing vidya than your memechanical jew mic spam
Benjamin Gonzalez
Corsair is a good brand.
Asher Hill
Lol fugof, I got mine for free
Ayden Green
Jokes on you my rubberdome keyboard was 220€
Brayden Sanchez
either they're bottoming out the keys are aren't using quiet switches.
though you are retarded, that's another matter.
Luke Allen
And that's why I want Brown Switches. I still want a click but it's much more quiet and I can type well too.
Jordan Butler
Better ergonomics, plus I actually play games where I need to press more than two keys at once.
Jayden Miller
>they're doing something wrong also you're retarded I have literally NEVER played with someone with a quiet memechanical keyboard
Wyatt Bailey
lol I laughed like a maniac at that
Jose Sullivan
>Not getting a mechanical keyboard with a custom image on it Smh desu
Logan Murphy
And where would you get that?
Dominic Garcia
I got mine at WASD Keyboards
Joshua Hall
That looks like shit
Justin Murphy
It looks better in person.
Asher Adams
Tisk tisk, you kids are silly. Keyboards aren't about style.
Asher Robinson
I have to have NKRO, and mechanical is the only way it comes nowadays
