What are your worst game piracy experiences?
What are your worst game piracy experiences?
This one time the keygen didn't have music.
>installer is in russian
>all the indie shit I want to pirate is several months behind the newest version
It's like you fags want me to play AAA instead.
Well when I was like twelve I downloaded Halo 2 off of Limewire. The best part is that it was only about 40 KB, so it finished pretty fast.
The best way to pirate games is with GOG torrents. They basically condone piracy by making their installers able to work anywhere.
>GoG optimises games for new OSs
>for free
meanwhile steam sells shit that doesn't run on modern operating systems
>Average reviews: Overwhelmingly positive
>Recent reviews: Mixed
Or try to anyway, but it sure is better than what devs get away with on Steam.
One time I tried pirating that game plague and got a encryptor on my pc. I had to do a fresh install of windows.
the bitcoin miners
fucking annoying and it's not like using my gpu for the 5 minutes before I notice and remove them will make anyone any money
GOG literally takes cracks and sells it off as official DRM-free adaptations. I remember someone finding a signature from Razor1911 in one of their installers once.
Downloading a 100 .rar files only to be surprised by a password when extracting all at once.
When I tried pirating something on limewire at a young age, instead of the desired games I kept getting massive dumps of cp
No, that was Steam's Max Payne 2. And it was debunked.
>visit shadywebsite.com for the password
>website is 404 or doesn't exist anymore
Lucky dog.
What did you get?
>run setup
>"Allow windows to install new driver?"
Got a bitcoin miner from pirating Baldurs Gate EE.
> plague
Should have used an AntiVirus
>Open keygen
>Music is deafeningly loud
>0045▶
>What are your worst game piracy experiences?
I love the ones where some faggot scene kid decides to put his name on absolutely everything.
Mr DJ is the name of every directory used during installation, etc.
>download max payne 3
>install it
>my pc restarts
>a pirate skull starts laughing at me
>YOU'VE BEEN HACKED
>YOU'VE BEEN HACKED
I've never had anything bad happen from pirating games. I've gotten a few letters from pirating movies though.
>Download ROM
>(Trashman)
additional software usually means vcredist / directx / etc.
funny how everyone thinks that russian repacks are the most scammy, as if there's any less westerner repacks full of malware
That's the beauty of it.
I never pirated a game in my whole life.
I never even played a game in my whole life, I'm just a middle aged guy trying to feel young. That's why I chose this anonymous website.
>Download Human Revolution
>Computer restarts
>Little virus Pac Man starts eating my screen from the top left
>Big percentage in the middle of the screen says how much he's hacked me
>Barely managed to stop it at 99%
This so fucking much, keygen music can be so annoying and loud
...
Everything from simple nudes up to straight up rape vids
what about in your unlife?
Someone put a download link here for some game and it was just several GBs of dolphin porn
>scene
>p2p trash
pick one
Daily reminder that 99.9 % of the stupid shit you pirate comes with "additional software" you really don't want.
>Hear about this at the time it happened
>Laugh about how weird people are
>Get reminded of this now
>Wish I could've been in on it
Slippery slope
Yeah but his torrents are solid so I don't mind.
>input the game's name as a password
>it works
Oh man I got a story.
> Pirate game, can't remember which one.
> Installer is in russian
> At the end it says in broken english something like
> Hey, we also did a movie, please torrent it as well
> Say why the fuck not
> Watch it
> Movie is about some sort of post apocaliptic desert
> Everyone trades in expired medical drugs
> The more expired the more valuable because they give a better high
> Overall decent for an indie movie
7/10 overall, game worked wonders.
But the movie...that was some esoteric stuff.
>keygen has nothing to click to close it
>Heard d44m was cracked
>Deleted some files to make room for it
>Let it download all night
>Turns out it was a bypass that no longer worked by the time it was done downloading
name of film?
Pirated Asscreed 3, it was even off a respectable private tracker. Installed a fucking bitcoin miner alongside the game, I was confused for months why my framerates in everything were halfed unless I uninstalled/reinstalled my GPU drivers each I started up my PC.
Sorry, can't even remember, lel, was years ago, lemme see if I can find something.
>torrent game
>install game
>play game
>exit game
>steam UI is now in Russian
How dumb can you be ? You aren't monitoring your hardware, especialy when something seems fucky ?
...
>worst game piracy experiences
never played a downloaded game
I cannot think of any because most of pirating I do from fairly trusted forum with normal downloads.
The miner wasn't taxing the card enough for it to really be noticeable at idle, temps and fanspeeds were more or less normal the whole time. Nothing came up online when I searched the issue, virus/malware scans picked up nothing at the time, and I couldn't find any suspicious services at any point. So I just figured it was a driver issue, because you know AMD.
How do I see if i got a Bitcoin Miner installed from pirating
Checking for processes/services/daemons/etc. you don't recognize is a good start.
>downloaded AssCreed 1 a while ago
>installer eats up all of my RAM and makes the CPU shit itself for a full hour
>by the time the fans slow down my ears are ringing
Fuck you, Skullptura.
wtf is a bitcoin miner
Nobody bothers with that anymore, bitcoin mining is dead outside of massive chinese ASIC farms.
Maybe once when I downloaded a Men of War computer started to fuck up (it was hard disk, if I remember well) near end of russian campaign.
But now I can say it was probably just computer throwing a fit.
Once the fucker BSoD'ed on fucking OpenTTD, I was spooked.
How you detected the miner?
A malware scan eventually did pick it up months later.
What antivirus?
I'm still using Avast
i thought all keygens were fake bullshit
...
Malwarebytes
one time the game just opened to a black screen so I deleted it
I pirated Civ4 once and used some program to mount the iso, restarted the computer and it went to shit. Didn't know what was happening until eventually I system restored and found out it was the program.
Usually I'm pretty good at keeping track of my ROMs but once I forgot to delete some SNES ROMs after 24 hours. The next day a cop showed up at my house, said he'd let me off with a warning this time but next time he'd be authorized to use force.
>avast
kek, I'm pretty sure you're better off without any antivirus than avast, its literally malware
Nothing recent. Like last ten years recent. Maybe limewire shenanigans when i was young.
I've had more trouble with shit I've actually bought than anything I've ever pirated. I remember Blitzkrieg 2 was fairly buggy on launch and had starforce aids attached to it, so the game refused to work half the time, and anybody who brought it up was dismissed as a pirate.
alt+f4 to speed up your megahertz
I don't even remember what I pirated. All I remember was a two or three day long battle with a bad virus that was using up about 80% of my CPU's resources and 90% of my RAM at all times. It took three anti-malware programs, a lot of Googling, a lot of task ending, and a whole bunch of manual deletion of files malware programs couldn't detect.
had this happen once. My town has way over aggressive police and after 24 hours i got swatted. Had me face down with a gun in the back of my head. They ripped apart my pc then told me i couldn't get it back because it was used in the act of a crime.
>download shittyAAAgame.exe from thepiratebay.ru
>installs fine and actually works
>leave computer on in sleep mode at night
>computer wakes in the middle of the night
>webcam comes on
>CPU goes into overdrive
>see 1000 copies of svchost.exe in the task manager
>computer shuts down by itself
>never happens again
>your credit card information along with a picture of your fucking retarded face pops up on a darknet site
At that point you might as well boot into Linux off a flash drive to nuke safely or use system restore and lose like, what, a day or two of changes?
In retrospect, yea, that would have been a much easier solution, but I'm a pretty stubborn guy. I could just feel the hard way would work eventually, and it did as far as I know. I never did anything too much different by the end. I just deleted stuff and rescanned, and it was gone. It could still be lying in wait for all I know
>haven't used an antivirus in 4 years
>PC still runs great because I only pirate from a private tracker and don't really browse any websites other than Sup Forums, nyaa, panda and sometimes youtube
Feels good man. I did become a LOT more paranoid about download links on here though ever since LostBoy.exe despite it not happening to me.
>vmware
CS:Source
>patch comes out
>can't play have to download some files and manually replace them
>next day another patch comes out
>even more files to download and replace
>repeat for a couple of years
>having your card info on anything but your notebook
cuck
Looking for roms on those Web ring sites in the 90s that had me running in circles clicking on shit.
LostBoy was gold. All the retarded Sup ForumsIrvine who actually downloaded that shit with their faces popping up as the OP hosted threads dedicated to it.
Is it because indie this dev put his name everywhere? or because retarded?
I had a monero miner on my computer for nearly 4 months that probably came from a random game.
it was a bitch to disable, and it just kept coming back. Finally had to redo windows to get rid of it.
>its literally malware
Explain
Thanks, doing a scan, seems there is nothing.
>not liking huge surprise dumps of dolphin porn
live a little you homo.
my dad had that shit on his notebook, it's so damn intrusive and annoying and likes to do shit on it's own like malware
I'll tell yah one thing the shit I accidentally downloaded on limewire as a kid makes Sup Forums look like a joke.
>be a clueless kid
>pirate some game, probably the Sims
>download it nonstop for about 3 days (early 00s slow-ass broadband)
>it is finally done after days of waiting
>know how to use virtual drives etc. because my tech savvy brother showed me
>the disc is asking for cd-key
>the torrent didn't include cd-key, or at least I didn't see one
>know I need a crack
>google "sims crack" or something like that
>click the first link
>download the first .zip file I see
>unpack the .zip
>virus scanner goes absolutely bananas
>oh shit
>delete fucking everything, including the game I've been torrenting for days
>is it over now? of fucking course, everything is fucked
>porn pop-ups jumping on the desktop even though the browser is closed
Thank god my older brother then fixed it all up. It was probably nothing major, nothing a simple virus scan couldn't handle, but I still get really anxious when I think about that. I haven't pirated anything in almost a decade, mostly because it's so easy to get legit games these days.
The main reason why I pirated back in the days was because the games were expensive, hard to find, and only available in physical format in game stores and magazine catalogs. Nowadays I can just put a few buckaroos on paypal, and get all the games I want clean and legit, and I feel really good for paying them if the game is really good.
>GoG optimises games for new OSs
>by bundling them with dosbox
>He doesn't use a VM to check the legitimacy of his torrents without fucking over his OS/losing his credit card number
I fucked up once and had to format ages ago, not falling for that shit again
...
Everything I deem important is on my cloud storage lol
user is exaggerating about Avast being a malware, but it is pretty intrusive sometimes with those goddamn Avast related advert pop-ups etc. it's pretty fucking retarded.
>malware
>get pop-up adverts on your desktop
>avast
>get pop-up adverts on your desktop about how good Avast is because it protects you from those *other* pop-ups :^)
>Want to make a sick video of gameplay I've recorded to become the new Youtube meme master
>Download Vegas off of TPB, ~4k seeders, good comments, seems legit
>Run it
>"Please restart Windows to deactivate UAC
>O fuck
>unplug internet to stop the flow, malwarebytes save me
>Malwarebytes can't save me
>Reinstall OS
JUST
If you havent deleted the files yet just find the cpy crack
Getting the buggy version of XCOM 2
>"installer" and not just extract and play
>doesn't realize that its basically standard policy to have either the name of the game or the crack group who released it as the password
I didn't lose anything critical since I dismounted my storage drive as soon as shit started going south, but getting Win7 back up to speed from SP1 is a pain in the ass.
I have enough storage that keeping a VM to check is worth the overhead, and having saved me once, it's more than justified the effort put into setting it up
