How do you feel about the Switch, honestly?
Zelda and Mario Odyssey both look fantastic, and look like they're the best in their series for years.
>inb4 rehash
The last console Mario and Zelda games came out in 2013 and 2011 respectively.
I expected more games though, considering how Nintendo pretty much made nothing all of 2015 and 2016 I figured they had more planned out for the Switch. Maybe they're saving some 2017 reveals for E3
I won't buy it at launch. Literally no point.
I'm pretty disappointed. Mostly because I know i'll end up buying it.
I'm just amazed it Nintendos marketing. Just 48 hours ago everyone was confident in Nintendo learning from their mistakes, all of the comments were:
>Nintendo won't overprice it, they know they can't compete with Sony/MS so they will likely release it for $250
>Nintendo won't make the same mistake as the Wii U and have no good launch exclusives
>Nintendo dropped support of the Wii U a year ago to focus entirely on the Switch!
>Nintendo delayed the Switch to improve on the launch lineup, it's guaranteed to have good games!
>I bet a mainline Pokemon and Monhun game will be a launch title to guarantee the Switches success
And then the Conference happened
>$299
>$70 controllers
>2.5 hour battery life
>PAID ONLINE
>No Backwards compatibility
>Switch 1,2 and Zelda are the only launch titles (A Fucking Wii Fit knockoff and a Wii U Port)
All of the big Youtubers are shitting on it (KindaFunnyGames, Giant Bomb, IGN, EasyAllies), Youtube comments are fucking disasterous, Neogaf is disappointed, Reddit is disappointed.
It just doesn't look good
I'm honestly in awe in how badly they fucked up. I'll be surprised if it beats the Wii U in sales.
It made me consider getting a wii u and having that be my last home nintendo console.
>The last console Mario and Zelda games came out in 2013 and 2011 respectively.
and?
what are you even trying to say
As a pretty die hard Nintendo fan and someone that felt burned by the Wii U, I'm skeptical.
On one hand, there's a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes, like the Unreal Engine Support, easy porting, decent power (read: decent) that will make it easier for developers to make games for it, which I think was a huge problem with the Wii U.
The current software offering for launch is pretty weak, but 2017 on the whole (if Xenoblade 2 actually does come out this year) is shaping up pretty nicely. ARMS looks super fun, Splatoon 2 will likely be more of the same but there's nothing wrong with that, and Zelda and Mario are strong first party offerings. Meme all you want, but portable Skyrim is pretty neat too and there's a few third party games that look pretty good.
While I think the core marketing push of Switch is leagues better than Wii U and the third party support is there, that could evaporate in a moment if people don't attach to the console quickly. Honestly, unless you're a first-time Nintendo buyer or a huge Nintendo fan, i still don't see a reason to pick this thing up in 2017, and if that remains the case for the majority of people, the third party support could dry up just like Wii U.
>Neogaf is disappointed, Reddit is disappointed.
nice. when can I get one?
Feels good that I never support their shitty launches and wait until their consoles have a decent number of good games and a price drop.
This round will be no different.
I am super hyped and have already pre-ordered.
The games and concepts look really fun!
The Wii-U was abandoned for another gimmick console with no games at launch. Mario looks cool, but I won't be buying the Switch until it's legacy console.
Nintendo fan here since the NES.
It sucks.
I just sold all my Nintendo stuff, and bought a PS4 instead.
I am 300% happier.
The Last of Us is very fun.
I'm hyped. Finally a new Bomberman game.
I can't believe it, it just happened AGAIN.
How can people fall for the same shit everytime.
I really hate the paid online and might skip Splatoon 2 because of that even tho I loved the first one, have about 200 hours in it.
Everything else seems good specially the games, probably not gonna get it at launch, even if I wanted it's sold out everywhere already.
I did the same and got new parts for my pc.
I missed out on the Wii U so I'm excited to get a current gen Nintendo console.
None of the games they showed really impressed me and the paid online thing + how much the console plus controllers cost are really unappealing.
I might just grab a used one when a new Pokemon or Kirby comes out for it, or when it gets hacked.
Looking kinda dry in games right now i hope they either release a lot of first party games or get some 3party support, the battery life is bad and paid online is absolute shit,i will wait and see where this goes, though i will get one eventually(for the exclusives) it might be very late in it life time since PC is keeping me covered right now
I feel like it's just a fucking gimmick, I'll stick with my Wii
Preordered
Imagine being Aonuma on that stage and having to be all like "damn, Nintendo Switch, you fuckin' fine, all sexy with your sleek and horrific detachable side controllers. I would totally play with you, both my virtual character and the real me." when all he really wants to do is buy another PS4 from Sony. Like seriously imagine having to be Aonuma and not only sit in that chair while Nintendo Switch flaunts its disgusting tablet like monitor in front of you, the favorable lighting barely concealing the low cost materials and worn out joystick, and just sit there, take after take, hour after hour, while they perfected its presentation. Not only having to tolerate its monstrous fucking visage but its outdated hardware as everyone on set tells it it's STILL GOT IT and DAMN, NINTENDO SWITCH WORKS LIKE *THAT*?? because they're not the ones who have to sit there and watch its plastic fucking gremlin body catch on fire as you try to develop a game that looks like it wasn’t made for the 5th Generation. You've been playing nothing but a healthy diet of Playstation and PC games and later quality ports for your ENTIRE CAREER coming straight out of the boonies in the highlands of Nagano. You've never even seen anything this fucking disgusting before, and now you swear you can taste the sweat that's breaking out of its overheated processor as it sucks it in to writhe it suggestively at you, smugly assured that you are enjoying the opportunity to get paid to sit there and revel in its "state-of-art (for that is what Reggie calls it)" beauty, the beauty the executives worked so hard for with the engineers in the previous months. And then Reggie calls for another take, and you know you could beat every single person in this room in Tri Force Heroes before the venue security could put you down, but you sit there and endure, because you're fucking Aonuma. You're not going to lose your future political career over this. Just bear it. Hide your face and bear it.
I would've been much more optimistic if Nintendo made it just a console you could take on the go.
But those fucking imbeciles had to go and shove every meme gimmick into the controllers, making the consoles and controllers ridiculously expensive.
If this was $250 with Zelda bundled in, it would've sold life hot cakes. Now it's $300, no actual games, and probably $10/month for online.
Nintendo can fuck itself, I'm switching to Sony.
Mario and Xenoblade looks really great, but I have a Wii U so I probably won't get a Switch before the holidays. I'll get Zelda on the Wii U and I've played Mario Kart 8 to death.
Also fuck paid online.
This are the things that i'm disappointed about:
>"1 2 Switch" not an included, free game
> the infrarred camera gimmick. I mean they didn't even show what that's for other that to raise the price of the R JoyCon
>the HD rumbke could be neat but looking at nintendo's history we can see that the gimmick is doomed to be ignored forever, once again, raising the price of the JoyCons.
>very few launch games, with decent upcoming games. Hopefully we'll see the big guns at E3 this year.
>the presentation was awfully executed. They spent too much time hyping shit nobody asked for/cared about when they coukd focus on the cool games and such.
They shoudl also realize that the japanese awkwardness is recieved as unprofessional by non Jap audiences
Extremely mixed.
The games look great, the console looks fun, the price is even alright to me. However, paid online is a huge punch to the gut and will only serve to kill games like Splatoon and the inevitable new Smash Bros game.
I really hope Nintendo reconsiders that, but Nintendo rarely ever listens.
I think I'm just going to wait for the *NEW* Nintendo Switch to be honest. Because, let's face it, Nintendo's shelled out better versions of their system before, and everyone else is doing it, so why wouldn't Nintendo? Especially with mainstream 4K adoption being right around the corner.
I bought a Wii U 2 years ago and kind of regret buying it but I love Smash and I'm a fool. I'm fucking pissed they have stopped supporting the console.
What I got out of the Switch was that Nintendo is trying to create another gimmick like the Wii. The switch looks just like the Wii. Why people are excited about this ARMS game I don't fucking know.
It is literally Wii Sports Boxing except a different premise. Like holy fuck how stupid can you be? Do they really think people are going to take a tablet out and play and random places?
Another gimmick that people won't use. Just give me another damn gamecube. Put the screen on the tv and give me a regular fucking controller.
I preordered a Switch off Amazon hoping to scalp it but will this thing even sell out? Goddamn I'm pissed.
I'll be even more pissed if the Wii U Zelda fucking sucks compared to the Switch. I'm not paying 300 for a Zelda game.
Pretty good. I mostly care about handhelds these days anyways. I will probably by a gen 2 special edition with a game sometime 2018-2019
I was always saddened by it. Nintendo has essentially left the console space, but that might be a sign that its a space worth leaving, they're usually ahead of the curve as far as marketing is concerned. I wish it was at least powerful, I would love to see nintendo IPs with great textures, lighting, and all kinds of cutting edge tech. However, nintendo has always been primarily a family oriented company and product, so thats wishful thinking.
that mario game has my attention completely though, is that a switch exclusive?
>inevitable smash game
Dude. They take 6 to 7 years to make a Smash game. Sm4sh has been out 3 years. I really doubt the Switch will even last that long.
It looks like the third consecutive console that isn't really made for me, so I think I'm finally done.
yes the mario game is exclusive
I love Nintendo and want them to be "back" but this thing has no market to sell to. It's got a novel and interesting idea with the hybrid aspect but the pricing will deter casuals and the extremely barebones launch + underpowered hardware will deter the hardcore from getting it. Not even the Nintendo fans will come out 100% to buy this due to the fact that they are already weary after the WiiU failure and the big launch game will also be coming to the WiiU that they already have.
I've never been a fan of the console itself, I just dont like how it looks or functions so naturally any focus on will rub me the wrong way. What I wanted most out of the Switch is good software or at least the promise of it and Nintendo kind of delivered.
The Switch has games that will make you buy the system, period, I mean that's the bottom line. It's not like the Xbox or PC where you can dismiss those platforms entirely, I mean if you like either Japanese and Nintendo games, the Switch is eventually going to get something you practically need and that's what makes a console in this day and age, exclusives.
It might nto move gangbuster numbers but it will sell a respectable amount. $10 every month will be going into Sony and Nintendo's bank account and that's honestly fine with me. Anything that goes against standarizing digital games as the norm and turning gaming into the moust cheapest and souless, AAA-graphics focused experience possible like PC dose is worth supporting. We need specialized and dedicated gaming hardware with unique features Japanese games in this day and age and Nintendo is delivering on that front, the Switch deserves to be supported by default.
This 100%
I got Nier Automata shortly after the launch and I plan to drop whatever else I'm doing at the time for that.
I can still do local co-op unlike most of my other PS4 games. I don't care about the portability and battery life much because I'll likely plug it in to play with other people once we're at our destination but I'm not getting it on release date. Puyo Tetris is surprisingly a strong selling point.
How long did it take you to type this?
>time between smash and melee was 2 years
4 games does not a trend make.
I would predict Smash 5 will be announced at E3 this year and will come out late 2018 or 2019.
I'm hype as fuck.
I mean, the trailers for Zelda and especially Mario WAY exceeded my expectations. Look incredible and bring me all the way back to my N64 memories of ultimate discovery.
Because no video game memories since then have matched. No matter how many awesome JRPGs or platformers I play since then, I will not experience the fun I had from Mario 64, BK, CBFD, DKC, OoT, MM, etc.
That is all I want. Just some fun games like those.
Maybe a minute or two at most
>Nintendo online is ass
>They want to be paid for that terrible service
I'll get Breath of the Wild for the Wii U and wait until it get some killer app exclusive single player/local multiplayer games before even considering buying it. If they killed 3ds for this thing I'll be fucking mad."free" online was one of the reasons I kept on the nintendo console boat.
Other wise I'll just stick to PC for my online gaming needs.
If I bought it at this point it would primarily be an investment, but that's true of literally every console purchased at launch. I remember the PS4 sitting on the shelf largely untouched because the only titles I had were Infamous Second Son and Battlefield 4.
The problem I'm having now though is the fact that as someone in Canada I'm further fucked by our godawful dollar. It's $399 apparently, which is completely ridiculous, and I'm likely to just leave the system to grow for some months, maybe even after E3.
Overall, I'm interested, but for the moment not nearly enough to be an early adopter.
I'm mad about the paid online, but i'm hyped for the games.
I never buy consoles on launch, but if they start delivering those games, I'll buy.
I'm gonna get it when one of three things happen:
>the inevitable price drop happens
>the "Y U NO HAX UR SWITCH" threads mention that their CFW is now future proof like the 3DS
>Monster Hunter 5 comes out (or, by surprise, MHXX turns out to be a switch game)
It could be more powerfull if they just lauched it later, they could put a more powerfull battery, it could be cheaper...Yet, this is nintendo, they aways want to profit to the very maximun instead of puting quality stuff up.
I hope alternate controllers are a thing and are cheaper
Optomistic. Short battery life and paid online are a real blow.I just hope the price for online is decent and the console is quality and durable. It looks like it's going to be very fragile.
Half and half.
On one hand, the games they did show for the most part look nice. Mario Odyssey has caught my eye, as has FEW and possibly ARMS. Plus, the paid online isn't much of a concern since I rarely play online.
However, there is no denying that this is a sparse launch line-up, and $300 is a bit steep for the system (though given how expensive it likely is to make, I can understand it).
The two hour battery is a letdown, and I REALLY don't want the third-parties to bail like with the Wii U.
Nintendo fanboy here.
I would have bought it no matter what.
BoTW still looks amazing.
SMO looks great, SM64's exploration with Galaxy's creativity.
I'm pretty excited to play MK and bomberman at uni
Biggest downside is paid online. Hopefully local multiplayer is fun enough to make up for it.
You know what you need to do user.
Overpriced piece of shit that I'm going to be surprised as fuck if it sells well.
If it does sell well by some miracle I'm going to be dumbfounded. I know they're selling out now but that happens with a lot of products, and even happened with the Wii U.
If it does well will it be because everyone thinks the overly high dumbshit prices on everything means it's good? Because I highly doubt all those controllers cost 80 fucking bucks to make.
i don't think I should be a Nintendo fan because I'm from the UK and Nintendo is not that popular over here instead of America
Same here, what really chaps my ass is paid online. I think I could have taken everything else and been okay with it, but paid online kills it for me.
>and even happened with the Wii U.
Took the Wii U 3 days to sell out compared to 3 hours for the Switch.
The games all look great, the only downside for me is paid online and the fact that the price is 100$ higher here in canada but I can still afford it so It's not too big a deal. Sonic Mania being confirmed for switch made my heart skip a beat in happiness and a new 3D mario that isn't just another 3D Land is all I ever wanted.
I fucking hate it
>300 dollars
>Pro controller is 70 dollars
>Sixty dollar games
>Paid online for a handheld that you might not even use on wifi half the time
>Literally only Zelda for launch, going to most likely be emulatable by then
>you get LOANED one NES game per month for online subscription
>have to pair console to a smartphone to even use the primitive online features
>weakass hardware
>shitty graphics
>gimped 3rd party support as evident by the bootleg FIFA game
>32GB storage, less than an iPhone 7
>Splatoon 2 is just some new weapons and maps
>Mario Kart Switch is just some new characters and battle mode
>no MH
I always thought I would be devastated if Nintendo went bankrupt. But after the shitshow that presentation was, I couldn't care less about them.
Selling my Wii U tomorrow and using the cash I saved up for the Switch to upgrade my PC. At least there I don't have to pay for online.
Excited
Minimum of 4 games I'll be buying for it in 2017
Looking forward to seeing what else Nintendo has in the works for Switch
I'll probably get one during the holidays but they need to bundle the controller with the switch and get rid of that pay to play online bullshit.
How much money will you even get for the Wii U though?
Is it even worth it?
Pre-orders need to stop being a metric for future sales
eBay is going to be saturated with these fucking things for months
Surprisingly, the portable element to it is really exciting to me. I use my Wii U pad separately from the TV all the time.
Not being tied to a certain radius from the console and being able to seamlessly transition between docked and mobile seems pretty cool.
fucing why lol
have u been alive the past 5 years, u pay for online for consoles, it is what it is? why is this news?
This.
Sup Forums is the only audience that exists, and you aren't allowed to price cut or release games after launch.
The Wii U wasn't on Jimmy Fallon, there's actual marketing behind this one
I'm excited about the core system and it's games.
But I am very, very concerned about how it will be managed.
Things like the paid online services, the need for a dedicated smart device to chat in-games.
Especially because of how badly managed the My Nintendo rewards program is.
There's also shit like the Joy-Con grip being bundled with the system is not capable of charging the Joy-Cons, unless you buy the separate "charging grip". It's a dodgy business practice.
That, and the lack of titles at launch. That actually doesn't worry me *too* much as Nintendo are somewhat notorious for weak launches. The 3DS' launch was pretty damn bad.
>Neogaf is disappointed
Last time they were disappointed was the Wii presentation/launch. Did great.
And last time they were excited with Nintendo was the WiiU presentation. LUL.
I expect this being a success.
>The Wii U wasn't on Jimmy Fallon, there's actual marketing behind this one
But it was, you fucking idiot.
I feel like I wont get one launch day because nintendo prefers I not give them money because I didn't stare at a computer screen all night.
That's the difference between you and me. Never compromise, even in the face of Armageddon.
Excited for it. I'm not sure I get all the hate about the launch lineup. Obviously third parties aren't going to be putting out exclusives for it at launch. They all knew they'd have to compete with fucking Breath of the Wild, and there's no way they'd make money if consumers had to make a choice between the two games.
Between BotW, Disgaea 5, I am Setsuna, and Has Been Heroes, I have plenty to play for a while. I don't have time to play games constantly, so that'll easily last me until the summer. Splatoon and Mario Kart will be out by then, and we'll have heard about other releases by then.
I've had a PS4 since launch and there hasn't been any games on it that I felt were "must plays." Bloodborne was pretty great, and there have been others that I've been really happy with, but nothing I'd tell people they need to buy a PS4 over.
BotW, Xenoblade 2 and Mario all look like big system sellers to me. So I'm pretty optimistic about the future. Considering we've seen less than a fourth of what's being developed for the Switch right now, there's no reason to complain.
>inb4 paid online
Eh, as long as the service itself is great I'm happy. I remember the good ol' days of Xbox live being the only decent online option for a console, while also being the only paid service.
He still has a point, in a way, because in the Wii U Fallon called it an accessory, not a new console. Had to have Reggie come out and correct him and everything.
I was just being derogatory, I don't actually watch the show
I just wanna know where the fuck all of the paid online posting came from. Is it just shitposting, or are they actually planning on it?
Damn you are retarded.
Kek well fair enough
Thats funny, I wanna know where all the paid online COMPLAINING posting came from.
Being that you know, Sony and Microsoft has paid online... and it is 2017...
I feel like im taking crazy pills.
>Anyone who is optimistic about video games is retarded
This is the world we live in, isn't it.
Dumb gimmick shit way out of the loop and behind in performance, I will get regardless because of Zelda, Metriod(?), MH(?), that F-Zero clone and The Mario.
Sad yeah but that's how it will be for me.
Then again I always wanted a Vita.
Oh no.
They are. Apparently it'll be 5 dollars per month.
Also, the first few months will be free, and they'll loan NES and SNES games to users.
I personally don't give a fuck, since I won't need online anyway.
It's okay when everyone else does it
No you are retarded for thinking paying online changes a damn thing regarding quality. Sony and nintendo already have downloadable titles.
Oh, no. That shit is stupid.
But the Switch lineup so far does have stuff I want to play. Very much.
Looks good. Already 4 exclusives I want, 2 of which are at launch(Bomberman and Zeldo). Thats already more than I got out of my PS4 as sad as that device is. Knowing the kikes theyre also holding out shit for E3 to avoid a 2015/2016 repeat, so Im pretty optimistic about the system. Best Ive felt since the 6th gen. The only thing thats really shitty is the paid online, but desu I dont even play Wii U games online so I can probably just ignore it.
I really, really like the concept of the console as a portable home console and I find the design of it appealing, as well as all the tech features they showed off in the presentation (joycons are wiimotes, HD rumble etc.) But, Nintendo has really let me down in the software department and overall marketing direction for the console. It's great that Zelda is a launch title, but why isn't Mario one too? Everything else they've shown isn't worthy of the steep admission price to own the system. I'm afraid they've really fucked up the launch by releasing the console too early. Also 1,2 Switch while a neat concept, shouldn't be the only prepackaged game with the console.
Most of all I'm afraid Nintendo haven't learnt their lesson from the past and this is going to be Wii U 2: Electric Boogaloo. And fuck paying for online.
Looks like shit
No games
2 hour battery life
Underpowered
Gimmicky
Xbox huge
720p screen
Pii Poo 2.0
I'm pretty ambivalent about it. Seems like a gimmicky system, but that's how Nintendo's been for the last ten years. Will buy Breath of the Wild for Wii U and wait at least a year before buying a Switch.
Honestly, the biggest reason for my eventual purchase will be to replay Zelda with better visuals. These days I'm more of a Zelda fan than a Nintendo fan, although Mario Odyssey looks pretty fun.
really underwhelmed and extremely put off by the intense jewing they're doing with extra hardware
the fact that they don't even include 1-2-Switch as a pack-in is sad as hell considering how shitty that looks even for half what it'll end up being priced at
still gonna end up getting one once i've got a spare $500 because i'm an addict and need my zelda and splatoon
Wow, some rational thought being ignored.
>I think I'm just going to wait for the *NEW* Nintendo Switch to be honest.
That's for the best.
I'm interested, but not day 1 purchase interested. Also, I just got a PS4 and will probably not have money for a Switch atm. I might pick it up late this year when more games come out. The mario game does look nice, and I didn't care for 3D world
There are countless posts from less informed people that say that "Wow people are excited for another Zelda game? Don't they just do the same thing every year?"
I think it looks extremely fun, I will probably wait for Arms and Spoon2 to come out before i get it.
Although, The prices are undeniably bullshit.
Preordered in the morning.
Zelda AND a new 64-esque Mario with actual good physics in the same year.
That alone makes the Switch worth it.
Buying lame, shallow games like 3D World and Wind Waker HD/Twilight Princess HD just to get a mediocre fix of those franchises (with the false promise of more) is what killed the Wii U for me.
>inb4 Zelda is coming to Wii U, too
I'm obviously going to buy the version that runs better AND is on the same platform as a new 3D Mario game.
Also, assuming it's exclusive, that Shin Megami Tensei, dude... I'm excited.
i-i think that the games are gonna be great and that it's gonna sell well.
Do we know if the $5 a month isn't just when you buy some $60 subscription ala PSN/XBLG?
All I care about is the games, and it looks like it'll have enough games I want (probably 4 or 5) at some point this year.
Could not care less about things that don't apply or matter to me like specs, battery life, accessories, or shovelware.
Okay.
What? Did you expect more out of my reply, you thirsty fuck?
