What were you expecting? This is like Mario 64 and Sunshine, each world has a little bubble you visit and do your quests in. You don't need a Skyrim sized world, a small perfectly crafted world is better for Mario platforming anyway.

Not to mention we can go inside of buildings, some of the Mario Sunshine maps LOOKED tiny, like the hotel level with the squid shadow thing on it, but when you go inside the hotel the level is actually fairly large. A city level probably lets you go in multiple buildings, we've already seen you can enter the hat shop thing.

Because the entire game was revolved around the city. The city in Mario is just 1 of the 8 worlds you can go in.

I actually like some of 1 2 Switch, though I won't buy it until it's clearance. One of the HD Rumble minigames-the one where you have to guess how many "balls" are in your controller as you shake it and feel the feedback from the controller, sounds awesome. Haptic feedback is a cool concept that stuck around for a reason, and this seems like the perfect evolution of it.

The non real world levels actually look really nice and follow what you'd really expect from a Mario game

The real world levels have this half cartoony and half real style though which just makes the end result look a bit shit and a decade old really. I do like the clash of styles as Mario is in them, his cartoony presence against the harsh rain and such but it's a shame they couldn't get the levels to look better visually, likely due to lack of power desu
