Can we try and work out as a collective the lore of this game and where the fuck it is in the timeline?

Honestly think it's mash of timelines. I doubt this link is the hero of time since we know what happened to him so he might be a new one with a different backstory
>timeline
No such thing in Zelda. They made some half ass book to get everyone to shut up.
Wind Waker.
So by Ganon do they mean pig ganon or Ganondorf?
>this level of delusion
It's either a Wind Waker failure timeline, or it takes place in Hyrule after the Great Sea has dried up and everyone else had moved to wherever Spirit Tracks is. Hell, it could take place at the same time as Spirit Tracks for that matter.
>it takes place in Hyrule after the Great Sea has dried up
Magic ain't gotta explain shit, but I think this is the most likely answer, wasn't there some item that referenced the great sea in one of the treehouse showcases?
if magic can pull water out of no where and sink hyrule it can bring it back
There hasn't been a new game in the failure timeline ever since it was revealed that it was a thing.
Think about it though. We know that this Link fell in battle, we don't know the circumstances, but it was probably in battle with Ganon.
The Deku tree makes mention of the fact that Link doesn't remember him. Only two Link's have come into contact with the Deku Tree, OoT Link and WW Link. It could still have been another Link those 100 years ago, but I think Nintendo wants to play on Nostalgia.
Not to mention that the Lost woods is where the Deku Tree is located and where the sacred grove eventually would be for when you get the Master Sword in LttP.
I've been a timelinefag since Wind Waker was released in early 2000 and Zelda fansites were in their infancy and I have no fucking clue where this shit goes. It's all over the place. There's contradictions anywhere you put it.
Fair, I would like to believe Calamity Ganon is just the after effects of WW Link ending Ganondorf but considering the Master Sword has moved and rusted I don't know anymore.
ALBW
Calamity Gannon, both forms maybe a third to mix things up
>There hasn't been a new game in the failure timeline ever since it was revealed that it was a thing.
Link Between Worlds and Tri Force Heroes both take place in that timeline.
There is and always shall be just one Ganondorf, and they've killed him off twice.
It's either a OoT sequel, or a Zelda 1 and 2 sequel. It's clearly on the downfall timeline.
...
There was a second one in FSA
It can't be at the same time as Spirit Tracks. That one only takes place approximately 70 or 80 years after WW. BotW Link has been asleep for 100. Also, the rock salt item references an "ancient sea", which would make the Great Sea too young.
Additionally, Calamity Ganon is trapped around Hyrule Castle, which matches up pretty well if OoT Link failed against Ganon. We know the Sages canonically intervene then to seal him, so BotW could be when Ganon has gone mad with power, still trapped in his seal, and Link has spent 100 years recovering his body. The OoT Temple of Time appearing very close to where Link wakes up, as well as the fact that Sheikah runes are everywhere, including in the starting chamber, make me think this is a Decline timeline game featuring the Hero of Time.
I think it takes place after WW. PH and ST are a part of a different time line.
And something happens that turns cat link into regular link.
Oh yeah. I guess I should have said 3d game. Nintendo seems to like it as being their dumping ground for 2d stuff.
Ganondorf was mentioned as a thing in FSA. He transformed into Ganon after getting the Trident of Darkness.
But it isn't concrete. While it's likely the case, there is still the matter of the Rito and Koroks, which have only showed up in Wind Waker titles.
>all those dead links
I miss the 2000s internet
Somewhere after Nintendo was finished and just before Nintoddlers were btfo.
Timeline/reincarnation shit was the worst fucking thing to happen to this series I swear to god.
I genuinely hope this is a reboot or is its own thing. Fuck the shitty timeline; not EVERY fucking game has to be tied together.
It's the entire timeline retold, or at least aspects of every game mixed together.
How many levels of asshurt are you two on right now
Those birds are not Rito. And the Koroks sorta appear in ALBW. There are other signs:
>Calamity Ganon, an entity, not a person monster
>No Triforce imagery as far as we know
>The resurrection theme. Not about Link, but about the land itself.
It can't be related to WW without retconning out of existance both DS games. They'd never do that (?).
>Rito
They don't look quite like Rito to me... maybe evolved Loftwings maybe?
>No Triforce imagery as far as we know
All over Zelda like Link will be later in the game I hope
Given the Koroks and what little we can see of the face, I think it's pretty clear it's Deku Tree of WW. Add the King of Red Lions-looking hermit from the E3 preview, I think it's pretty clear what the basis is.
>Also, the rock salt item references an "ancient sea", which would make the Great Sea too young.
If the Great Sea dried up 100 years ago, that'd make it fairly ancient.
In WW, Ganondorf was sealed in the ruins of Hyrule Castle, so the setting fits. The only question there is how the Master Sword moved from his forehead back to the pedestal.
It's a timeline split from Wind Waker in wish Ganon touched the Triforce before the King and brought Hyrule back
The game will reset the timeline. Eventually it'll be about about them (Zelda, Link, and eventually Ganon) breaking through their fate or reliving the same lives. Stopping the cycle and disconnecting themselves from the Triforce, leaving it as it's own entity
I meant in the land itself. It's just the SS crest.
>mfw SS sequel
>It can't be at the same time as Spirit Tracks. That one only takes place approximately 70 or 80 years after WW. BotW Link has been asleep for 100. Also, the rock salt item references an "ancient sea", which would make the Great Sea too young.
Maybe this link is the Link that was supposed to stop Ganon when he came back, but was put into stasis for whatever reason. This, of course, led to the Great Sea flooding, etc. etc.
IT'S
A
DRAGON
BREAK
The main issue is that Zoras exist, and Hyrule is far too populated to exist; between the time of Spirit Tracks and BotW, which would have to be only about 30 years at most. We see a lot of towns and structures in trailers and things so far.
I like to believe the goddesses just said "fuck it, lets try again" and flooded it after the Hero of Time didn't appear, but then again they didn't give a damn in the decline timeline
>Calamity Ganon, an entity, not a person monster
It's not a title. The whole line makes it clear they're referring to Ganon as a calamity.
>No Triforce imagery as far as we know
Back of Zelda's hand in the latest trailer. Pretty sure it was visible in the ruins of the Time of Time from the E3 coverage.
>The resurrection theme. Not about Link, but about the land itself.
WW was centered around resurrecting the land. Ganondorf wanted the old, corrupted Hyrule back while Link/Zelda created a new one.
That doesn't work. It would shit on WW ending too.
>go children, create a new kingdom
>go to new land
>call it fucking hyrule
>develop a new culture and tech
>sea dries out
>nvm, let's go back :^)
Makes no sense at all.
That's not how timeline splits work; only the Ocarina of Time has been shown to be able to diverge time.
Speaking of which, why didn't the "Failure" timeline just stem off of Majora's Mask instead of being made-up bullshit? I never understood that.
My guess is it takes place in the WW time line before the world floods. We get to see the events that lead up to it? Or it could be somewhere in the defeat time line.
It's a twilight princess sequel. Screen cap this.
>It's not a title. The whole line makes it clear they're referring to Ganon as a calamity.
Nope. When the old woman is talking in the last trailer, Calamity Ganon is treated as an entity. A curse. Remember who is directing BotW.
Did they ever specifically say the Zoras died out in WW? We know Medli is descended from one, but I though the Rito = Evolved Zoras was just fanon?
>the time of Spirit Tracks and BotW, which would have to be only about 30 years at most. We see a lot of towns and structures in trailers and things so far.
The islands already had steady populations and infrastructure, though. Thirty years is no time to expand when you've got the tools and means to do so.
That'd be great but I don't think so. I'm honestly starting to think it's either decline timeline, or the goddesses are fucking around and just merging the three back together just to say fuck it.
>Rito and Zora side-by-side
it's time you realized that the split timeline does not exist.
More likely, it's either set before Link to the Past or when the Hero of Time dies and is resurrected 100 years later.
Like, why is the Deku Tree there?
This.
>Zelda realizes her ancestor fucked shit over by creating the three way timeline split
>Uses Sheikah Magitech to try and remerge all the timelines together
>Obviously something goes wrong
>Calamity Ganon
>Koroks
>Wolf Form
>Rito(?) and Zoras
Interesting how they all tie together despite each being unique to their own timelines
The Goddesses Drained the great sea some(great)time after Spirit tracks.
Hyrule castle's barrier failed and it flooded.
Master sword rusted.
Once the sea was drained from the mainland some of the Rito chose to return to the Sea (Jabun most likely bestowed them with the ability to turn back into Zora.) The rest of the Rito decided to stay with being birbs.
Draining the sea allowed Death mountain to not be underwater, since gorons can't swim they were just stuck down there.
Kokiri's gained back some forest due to their efforts in WW.
With the sea drained and the master sword rusted, it was weak enough to free Ganon after some time
Shiekah (no Idea how) produced immense tech to give to the land.
Ganon eventually escapes
Corrupts everything, affecting the Zora (Red shark people now)
New Zelda dies, link gives his life in order to save her with the "Master sword of ressurection". Link dies, master sword is used to bring him back so they can shove him in stasis.
Game start.
Did you watch the same video? Because I heard/read "The calamity, Ganon, yadda yadda"
Falco is not a Rito.
i always thought rutos just evolved from zoras so they could live in the new climate on land..but they could swim before..wait...why did they evolve?
This
Someone screencap it
Ganon from the other timelines caused the Ganon in her timeline to get three times evil and fucked up.
But why have we never heard of the Shiekah super magic technology before?
THIS IS IWATA ROLLING IN HIS GRAVE, DELETE THIS
I like this.
Then you're wrong.
>The master sword was left in ganondorfs skull
>In BOTW the master sword is in the forest
Literally makes no sense
>what are timeshift stones
A new timeline split at Oracle of Ages where Link dies. Ganon in that game was unstable because Twinrova used her bodies to resurrect him which lead Ganon to being a mindless monster in the fight
Hory shet you might be onto something there
What if Skyward Sword is X-Men: First Class and BotW is Days of Future Past?
What if far-flung future Zelda goes and alters the past so that they can live in a better future?
It introduces even MORE time-travel crap to the lore, but Aonuma might just not care much for that at this point.
It's a prequel to Wind Waker.
We call that OoT
I went back to see the text. This is the nip trailer btw.
>The history of the royal family of Hyrule, is also the history of Calamity Ganon, a primal evil that has endured over the ages.
I see your point: The history OF Calamity Ganon. But i was thinking about the primal evil shit. Must be both. A character and the curse/evil/whatever.
how was Zelda able to be aware of all 3 timelines?
Aren't there technically infinitely differently timelines? And we're just formal with the 3 we know of?
It's a retelling/reimagining of the first Zelda game
I'm pretty sure the goddesses forced them to evolve so Old Hyrule would remain undiscovered.
sonyfags are terrified
one of the things in the collector's edition calls him the Calamity Ganon
Maybe we're tackling Demise's curse head on in BotW and not just the man it creates
What the fuck are the Sheikah? Not even Skyward Sword mentioned anything. I'm betting on ayy lmaos at this point.
>Master sword is now the Master Sword of Ressurection
Im sad Ghirahim wont be in anything anymore. He was a good villain.
>Hyrule was caught completley unawares by Ganons power
>He was sealed away within Hyrule Castle, but he was so powerful his hatred and evil resonated into the land itslef
>Ganon became a literal force of nature, and became the Calamity Ganon
>Zelda, responsible for sealing away Ganon, led to the destruction of Hyrule
>Link failed to save her
>Link agreed to be put into stasis by King (Old Man) and part of Zelda's remaining power was put into him (the prompts he hears from her during the start of the game are in his head)
>You roam the world trying to piece together what happened, most cutscenes are flashbacks
What if Link in BotW is some sort of android/artifical being because Fi merged with him to save him, and thus ruined the master sword? Would explain the blue outfit
Why do people still try to dismiss that the games are connected?
It doesn't take anything away from them to think that they are, and it's a lot of fun trying to put together the pieces between them.
Master Sword has always been a plot device that does whatever the devs want it to do so I'm not too hung up on that. Why doesn't it open a magical staircase to a dungeon and turn back time in every game?
dont worry he'll be immortalized as an assist trophy in smash ;)
Remember her?
Enough to know half of the games are shoehorned into a shitty timeline that doesn't make sense in a fuckton of logical ways.
Between OoT and ALttP. All cutscenes are flashbacks
>Impa will never boss you around
That would be pretty rad. A final chapter were Link and Zelda become self aware of the curse, even if it's the only think linking them together. Would make a bittersweet ending.
Theory.
The spirit of Fi has either died or left the Master Sword. This causes Calamity Ganon, a literal plague of destruction, to erupt.
The girl that says "open your eyes" is Fi.
>you can shit on every other Zelda game
>BUT NOT WW
Aonuma please
The end of all timelines like in Turn A Gundam
>caring about logic in regards to a fictional work
Hey buddy Reddit is two blocks down
Are you familiar with Gundam? Gundam had a bunch of different parallel timelines but all timelines meet and end in Turn A Gundam. I think that's what Breath of the Wild is, the absolute end point of all Zelda storues incorporating everything that came before.
Theory
Fi is actually Ness, from Earthbound.
That ... that would not explain his new outfit. But the idea that he's a clone or something artificial is possible.
This could also set the timeline straight, and Nintendo can make games that don't fit in the setting so much or use the Wind Waker design all the time.
It also explains how everything in BotW has a bittersweet feel to it, with elements hinting the previous games.
BOY IF THIS IS IT
Theory.
Luigi is one of the goddesses.
It's probably going to turn out that it's Hero of Time Link again, and he was put to sleep after he failed to stop Ganon.
Venom Link has been a prevalent theory since E3.
No Tunic
Right-handed
Generally different appearance
