Do you believe the Switch will have what it takes to kill/replace 3DS development?
Do you believe the Switch will have what it takes to kill/replace 3DS development?
>the buttons on the Switch are smaller than the 3DS buttons
...
Not with its pathetic battery life
i think it will replace the ps vita
>literally a fat vita
once price drops hit
Inevitably.
Nintendo needs to release a stronger dock down the line though.
Did you guys notice that there's no miis?
god that 3ds top panel pains me
please don't push it that far back
fuck
Hopefully yes
I believe the switch has what it takes to kill off Nintendo
Christ almighty, what an abomination
The Switch was a mistake, what the fuck were they thinking?
It just needs to have a lineup as good, that's all it will take. I honestly see this mirroring the release 3DS exactly.
>Pathetic launch lineup
>Tiny trickle of games most of the first year
>Sales don't look so good
>Launch 3D Mario game alongside a sizable price cut
>Follow up with a very strong string of releases the following year
>System is a massive success
Switch has the advantage of at least having something that qualifies as a system seller at launch, the 3DS had fucking nothing.
The original 3DS' battery was almost as bad.
I think so. Nintendo is hedging their bets, though. Right now they're focusing on it being a Wii-U replacement. Until it gets Pokemon they're not gonna treat it as the 3DS successor.
No. And btw 3DS has bigger and better lineup of games this year than Switch
I'd agree, the games look 7/10 but good god what the fuck were they thinking.
>Larger and heavier then 3ds XL
>No flip screen so portability is garbage anyway
>3hr battery life
As portable device this thing sucks so much dick its crazy. Like who the fuck is going to carry this thing around with them?
no, 'cause most of the devs won't want to make higher-res assests. the ones that decide to try will take too long to get their games released, and the console will be dead by then. most devs making games for the switch just now started.
It isn't much bigger than a 3DS XL, and it is significantly thinner. Stow the joycons in a separate pocket or bag and I would argue it is much more portable. It isn't much bigger than a smartphone without the controllers attached.
there's no doubt that's the plan
that way nintendo's software division doesn't have to worry about the mobile/home distinction
also only having one console to code for makes things way easier
I worry about whether or not they can actually do it, though. Nintendo has already had difficulties developing for HD. Trying to retrofit their 3DS development teams into HD development teams might not work out too well.
Of course, it could also work out amazingly, since they're used to making games work on shitty hardware.
The 3DS XL was already cumbersome as hell to carry, something bigger is way to much to lug around with you. Then you need to worry about the screen getting fucked up because its in your pocket/bag. Then you need another spot for the joy-pads which means it digs into your pockets which already are packed with a phone/wallet/keys/etc.
Seriously this thing will kill Nintendo's monopoly on handheld games. I hope sony announces a new Psp just so there is at least one true handheld console.
They don't really have separate teams making portable and console games.
en.wikipedia.org
Given we've already got games announced at $20-$60 price points, I think Nintendo is comfortable with having a lot of different levels of games on the system. I could see 3DS successors sticking around $40 releases for games that don't quite squeeze everything out of the game and are meant for more, and longer, mobile play.
The Switch with Joycons attached is about 10 inches wide, vs 7 inches for the 3DS XL. Its also significantly thinner, and the thickness of the clamshell form factor is the main reason the 3DS XL is so cumbersome. As for keeping the screen safe, I'm sure somebody is going to put out tempered glass screen protectors for the thing.
so its double the games right? then maybe that will make up for the price and price of accessories. all handheld and console games will come to this for the next 5 years.
I would like to play Pokemon in 1080p.
The merged their handheld dev team into the Switch's team. New handheld never.
Does it really need that fucking disgusting chunky bezel? What a waste of screen real-estate.
Its battery life is literally better than the 3DS 3-5 hours
>no 3D screen
>replacing the 3DS
Why did they ignore 3D! I love it, LOVE IT.
Not at $300, it won't.
Also, cutting out Streetpass seems like it would be a really dumb decision if Nintendo really is trying to absorb the 3DS' audience for the Switch. The 3DS' #1 market was the one place on this planet where Streetpass actually worked as intended.
Not for about a year. I predict the Switch will be just like the 3ds launch, it's going to take about a year but by then it will be stronger than the 3ds ever was and we will have animal crossing, Fire Emblem, Pokemon, and Monster Hunter as well as an extended battery life accessory for the portable switch setting so as to fully replace the 3ds. The third party support will give incentive to die-hard 3ds users (like me) to make the "switch". Playing a full console game on the go is a vital feature to me and comfy as fuck.
If it gets games, maybe.
one-time wonder. Make sure you keep your 3ds cause its going to run out of production soon.
The 3DS is hackable even on the latest firmware, as well as the Wii U. It's going to take the Switch A LOT of effort to top that.
too awkward to carry around in my pocket. i'll stick with my CFW O3DS
The games could still work, you just wouldn't have the 3D shit (nobody fucking uses that anyway). Remember the 2DS exists.
The biggest loss is the second screen, though for an VC that's easily remedied by displaying both on the single screen of the Switch. It's even a touch screen, which looked to be the biggest hurdle for any DS/3DS games on the Switch.
No on board BC, though, which is a shame. Probably would've jacked the price up even more, though honestly as long as it could read the damn cards it could probably have just run an emulator. For the DS games, at least.
Is everyone retarded?
This is the console and handheld replacement.
It is made to have a higher price at first to get the console audience and high end handheld customers. Next year there is a smaller "light" redesign and price drops to get more handheld customers.
In 3-4 years there is "2DS" version that has no detachable controllers and is made to be super cheap-o for about $100
>Next year there is a smaller "light" redesign and price drops to get more handheld customers.
Or an XL redesign like the 3DS XL or DSi XL. Seriously the system is small as fuck
