The servers are still up, aren't they? Why not go back?
ff11 a shit play ff14 praise kek
you know it will never be the same
As much as I like FFXI threads and replying to it, this is probably another shill thread.
Im pretty sure XI is dead as fuck.
No you don't
Believe me you don't
There were several threads of people playing this past week alone. Plus, the game wasn't that great, honestly. You're probably just relying on nostalgia.
Not me, I never played XI.
Well, actually I did play XI, but I never got above level 25 or so. I just could not do the mindless grind. Plus I'm an extremely antisocial autist who can't make friends or even be pleasant to be around, which is crippling in a game like XI where everything revolves around parties. I was also a really unpopular class so I never got invited to shit.
This. The game is average at best, but the community was great. No matter how hard try to relive those times it will never be the same.
It's the best horizontal progression game ever created, though that isn't saying much.
It relied almost entirely on the server community to fuel the enjoyment of the game. Take that away, and it's a massive grindfest with a horrible effort to reward ratio.
I wouldn't give up the 6 years I played for anything, but I won't delude myself into believing it was all the game.
Bunch of people from Sup Forums have been giving Nasomi a go. Mix of new people who've never played before and vets.
Hit Sahib up for a linkpearl, there's a discord as well if you wanna drop in and get to know people a bit before you set the game up.
Adding onto this though, I will say that doing the expansion missions as a group was probably the most fulfilling thing I've done in an online game ever.
At times, massively difficult, but (mostly) fun and accompanied by a genuinely very good storyline. Probably the most engaging MMORPG story to date. FFXIV is really fucking good too, but CoP and WoTG's storylines were something else. They did a fantastic job.
>try FXIV
>get near to max lvl
>almost done with the storyline (which was pretty shit btw)
>get the quests to do those 3 dungeons whos name I forget
>they also pop up in duty finder
>being a storyfag, despite the story being weak i want to see the cutscenes
>i am literally screamed at by the puggies in duty finder for wanting to watch cutscenes. they bumrush ahead of me and i spend the entire run in cutscenes while they kill the bosses since they dont want to wait 30 seconds
>get locked out of final boss room because of this
>quest doesnt complete and i have to redo all of it
modern MMO community sucks.
even SWTOR was better, since pretty much nothing BUT storyfags still play that game and they don't mind watching the odd rp bits.
I've been playing FFXIV but XI has me curious. I've never played XI before, but the art style and music have piqued my interest. Is there a private server anywhere where a new player can try the game in a reasonable state?
You know you can redo all cutscenes in your private room in cities right?
Now lets not pretend this doesn't happen for FFXI you nostalgiafag.
You can try nasomi but I guarantee you wont enjoy it.
Good lord fuck off
Not really. Nasomi is cool and all but it is not for new players, it's buggy as shit and does nothing to glorify the original experience.
The game did not age well at all. It's a game from a time that's past, before the age of social media and the modern web. It's literally impossible to recreate the numerous factors that led to FFXI being an enjoyable experience.
On top of all that, the main reason why it probably won't be fun for you is that you probably don't have 10 hours a day to dedicate to the game. Most of the people that played FFXI with me were, like me, kids in school or fresh graduate NEETs that literally lived on the game. It was the only way to actually progress. Take that away and it's pretty bad actually.
Server forums and drama also contributed to the experience. You'll get none of that now.
For people that actually played heavily, I'm sure you would all remember the massive drama threads on BlueGartr and Alakhazam back in the day. Those threads fueled me.
>You can try nasomi but I guarantee you wont enjoy it.
I should probably just stick to XIV for what fun it offers, but I'm still curious. What's the issue with Nasomi? Is it the version of the game or the size of the community that ruins it? Or is the game itself the problem?
I miss playing games before "dungeon/duty" finders matched me with players and teleported me into instances.
>this one salty as fuck XIVer trying to ruin the thread
Anyone else see that Wyvern disguised as a Steppe Hare on the Plateau today?
Rykoshet is black
>On top of all that, the main reason why it probably won't be fun for you is that you probably don't have 10 hours a day to dedicate to the game. Most of the people that played FFXI with me were, like me, kids in school or fresh graduate NEETs that literally lived on the game.
>literally a fresh graduate NEET right now
But I'm applying to places and aiming to become not NEET in the near future, so 10+ hours a day in an MMO won't be viable for much longer. If I succeed.
Everything pointed out. It will never recreate the real FFXI experience so don't waste you time on it.
You can try retail if you really want to try FFXI.
no, i did not know that
im sure it happens in XI too.
How does retail differ from the old experience? I heard something about it killing the MMO features and streamlining it so that you could play much of it by yourself.
I'm paying for retail XIV and enjoying it well enough. I have a friend to play with and a small FC with some nice people in it. I should probably stick to that.
He also sucks at smash and his Ike is pleb tier
to anons ITT thinking about trying out FFXI
go to nasomi.com and follow the directions
then /tell Sahib and get a linkpearl to join the Sup Forums "guild"
people are friendly and the game is addicting
I didn't even know he played smash. I mostly remember him from when I played XI and spent most my time on Gamefaqs.
is it supposed to look so fucking blurry though?
its like the pixels are being stretched across my screen
Destroyed. The downfall of the game started when level sync was put in. A huge part of the game's mystique and fun was having to travel all around the world while you leveled up, every few levels you had to move and have an entirely different experience.
At high levels there were numerous opportunities to level, and some of the most fun I had was convincing groups to try something outside of the box. Level sync came in and all that died. Everyone just started leveling in Qufim on worms instead.
The community is fractured and full of morons and meme spammers. You can solo anything. Everyone does 99,999 damage when back in the day 1,000 damage was considered crazy. All gear is judged by item level rather than class utility. Sound like another game? Yeah, me too.
It's done.
you can adjust and set custom resolutions via Ashita
there's also hidden commands to unlock the framerate and draw distance
To the user really interested in trying FFXI.
Buy the retail. Seriously nasomi shills are only going to sour your experience by dragging you into a shitty bugged private server and forcing you to play through a ancient game that didn't age well.
/fps show to hide the FPS counter
/fps 1 to get 60fps
/drawdistance setworld 10 to see from one end of the map to the other.
meant for I'm far from a nasomi shill
I'm barely a part of the Sup Forums linkshell, I just sometimes party up but mostly play solo
you just need to fuck off for trying to get some user to spend his money out of spite
He was actually really good at brawl, back right before Abyssea came out I played him a lot--mostly got destroyed. I knew him from BG, not GFaqs. One of the original GFs admins played on Quetzalcoatl though. Was even in a linkshell with him.
...
Beach Bunnies.
You think you can keep your Robber Crab chain by pulling me?
Fuck you, faggot. I'm bringing 4 of my friends.
>out of spite
I'm trying to save any interested user his time from senseless grind while enjoying FFXI on its official supported servers. I don't like pretending its 2005. Times have changed.
This post makes me sad.
I want games that make me explore the world and experiment with things. I want content that challenges me and my group beyond "you require this item level to be considered." I want to play with a rag-tag, sub-optimal group composition, and then find a way to make it work.
How can something so cute be so deadly?
Well to be fair, sub-optimal group compositions wasn't really a thing in XI either.
Parties were pretty cookie cutter.
Game is shit now, especially the endgame because the only people who do this shit are the autists
Is this game's story good?
Only CoP was good.
It's very good, I would actually put it in the top 3 or 4 of any FF game.
Actually experiencing the story takes hundreds to thousands of hours though; you'd be better off watching it in movie form now. It's not going to be enjoyable anymore.
Fair enough. I question whether MMOs can ever be -not- cookie cutter at this point.
the first time i played FFXI, i had one of my friends over and we created a character. we ventured out into Ronfaure as a level 1 hume and got fucking destroyed by the rabbits.
goddamn i love this game and yes it's all nostalgia, fuck y'all i don't care
That's an OWNM.
Some of the BCNMs aren't working right on Nasomi so the guy who runs the server instead placed all the drops on these Wyverns, and if you fight them you get capped to the appropriate BNCM level.
I wanna say La Theine's Wyvern is one of the BCNM20s, but I could be wrong.
Very good, worth subbing just for doing the story.
The adoulin expansion story alone is better than anything from XIV
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
I wish I could still find the little piece of cardboard that went around your num pad to help new players with short cuts. I was pretty obsessed with the game even before I was able to convince my parents to use their credit card to pay for the sub fee. I had printed out a bunch of pictures online and ripped out magazine pages in order to make a little presentation to show my parents on how much i wanted to play the game.
The trilogy (FFXI country missions, Rise of the Zilart, and Chains of Promathia) has a slow start builds into something pretty great.
Treasures of Aht Urhgan is the cool spin off story in a different world that delves into life on other continents, and also introduced some great stuff to the overall lore.
A lot of people shit on Wings of the Goddess, but that's mostly because that was sorta FFXI's fall. A lot of people in charge of the game got shifted around to other Square Enix projects and the expansion's story was sorta rushed at the end.
It's 75% pretty great, then the last 25% of the story just falls hard. A lot of people blame XIV for it, but it's a combination of many things going on at Square Enix that really tore this expansion apart.
Abyssea's story is non-existent.
Seekers of Adoulin is a return to triumph. It's just Aht Urhgan, in that it focuses on a different continent, but provides a lot of world building to the main setting as well.
Rhapsody of Vanadiel is a take it or leave thing. I like it, some dislike it, others are ambivalent about it. Depends on what your experience with FFXI happens to be.
>Adoulin
lol.
Arciela is a huge mary sue.
Me too, I totally miss waiting 5 hours for a party that disbands 15 minutes after I get there.
youtube.com
Best fucking music.
>talking shit about my waifu
you better take that back
I was once like you. Then I realized I could start my own groups, form friendships and never have this problem again.
>he didn't make his own parties
You were either a limp-dicked invertebrate incapable of leading a party or you had a shit reputation and people avoided you like the plague. I never waited more than 30 minutes and I played unpopular shit like DRG (before TOAU and colibris) and BLU (during piercing damage's heyday).
I stared at her breasts, and I would do it again.
I was in the first non-JP group to get here on my server. Absolutely breathtaking experience, unmatched in any video game I've ever played since.
Nothing tops that shit man. Nothing. The culmination of thousands of hours of effort all loaded into one achievement.
Shit that would never happen in 2006 for 1000, Alex
>spend 30 minutes trying to form a party
>no RDM or BRD in sight
>oops, looks like you're leveling incredibly inefficiently or not at all today
I was in the same boat. I'm enjoying XIV for what it is, it being my first MMO, so I was curious about XI. After setting up, I played for a bit. I quickly realized I wasn't really gonna have fun with it. The grind is grindy as hell, and not a lot of parties were welcoming inexperienced players. I'm sure the game and community might have been a lot better in it's hey-day, and I did prefer the combat to XIV, but without a party of friends to go through it, it fell flat on its face quickly.
I static grouped with a BRD friend on my second job to 75. Glorious as fuck, no wait times.
Do SMN still have to to defeat each primal in order to gain it as a summon? I always thought it was a weird but cool design that you basically needed a high level character in order to get everything out of SMN. Like a NG+ job. It's a shame that SMN was mostly used a fuckhueg MP pool healbot. Actually, I like how a lot of the jobs were used in a seemingly different manner than SE originally intended. And they didn't seem to try and force players to play them how THEY wanted.
Fine, just know that she will forever be mine and mine alone
>mfw co-op with WAR/MNK bro as RDM/WHM
its taking awhile though
>WAR/MNK
>After level 30, minimum
b-but.. booostuu..
SoA is literally pokemon
Silmeria?
Delve was godlike before it got nerfed. Easily the hardest thing ever put in the game. It was probably the absolute highest point of the level 99 metagame. The rewards were phenomenal. If you killed a Delve king you were serious shit. That was hard as fuck.
Then they had to go and fuck it up.
>Then they had to go and fuck it up.
As they usually do
Don't knock it.
It's great as a tank and DD until 50.
/THF and /NIN are overhyped.
Can someone tell me what the blm/sch (nuker) do in endgame/apex stuff? im sure they dont do free nuke
Life as a Linkshell leader isn't easy.
Don't buy into the hype.
/tell if you want into the Sup Forums LS on Nasomi.
Sup Forums LS on Asura still has steady member activity every day. Jump in discord and ask for a pearl if you want in. We have lots of new players and returnees.
>black pearl
totally disgusting
all nukers just do magic bursts
your main gear to rush is mb+ gear. gives you insane damage.
blm can cast death and hit for 99,999 if geared and buffed properly
sch can self skillchain
Huh, think I walked by you guys earlier.
RIP Sahib.
I need to get WHM up so I can actually PL you folks. But I haven't had much time to play again.
Valon here
>magic bursts
Oh man i gotta read about that, i just leveled BLM and i plan on leveling SCH too.
I've never done magic bursts or skillchains since i leveled up with trusts, i blame the fucking game...no tutorials or whatever
If you want a pearl, we've got a pretty good LS for new/old guys.
Nice mix of people.
Almost done with Warrior, man.
Can't wait to move on to unlocking advanced jobs.
>I had printed out a bunch of pictures online and ripped out magazine pages in order to make a little presentation to show my parents on how much i wanted to play the game.
that is fucking adorable
well it was designed to be an ecosystem where players teach other players. the issue is the population dropped and most people are antisocial in mmos now
it worked great years ago, just hasn't adapted well for new players in the recent years
