What are your reccomendations Sup Forums?
I´m a weeaboo who never played a WRPG
Dark souls
Skyrim obviously, best RPG if not the best game of all time
If you like it then you can play Oblivion and Morrowind too but prepare for them to be considerably worse
Not Dragon Age
mass effect the waifus are ugly tho
Todd, go away.
fallout
Deus Ex
VtM:B with the unofficial patch
Shadowrun Dragonfall
All good starting points.
Kill yourself, redditor.
kek.
Don't forget Fallout 4 and the season pass guys!
Final Fantasy XII
How retro are you willing to go? The later Ultima titles are pretty good. Fallout 1 and 2 are worth playing as well.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl
What kind do you want?
Classic CRPG? Baldur's Gate series, Planescape Torment, Fallout 1/2
Real Time w/ Pause CRPG? Pillars of Eternity, Tyranny, SWTOR 1/2, Dragon Age: Origins (sorta)
Action? The Witcher series, Mass Effect (sorta), Dark Souls (Jap dev, western style, also sorta status)
No, they are not.
>Skyrim obviously, best RPG if not the best game of all time
You clearly wanted a bump, so here it is.
That being said, fuck you.
>Shadowrun Dragonfall
game sucks
I have no clue what weeaboos like, but my personal favourites
>Mass Effect
Original, skip the sequels
>Dragon Age: Origins
Again, skip the sequels
>The Witcher
All 3 are good to play, but maybe the first is too old for you. If you don't mind old games, definitely try the first one
kys witcherfag
Planescape: torment, every game after will be a disappointment.
Witcher 3 is great.
Elderscrolls games are great too.
There, that should set you straight for a while.
>recommending Witcher 3 over the first one
is this the power of contrarian shitposting
Is Morrowind literally the only Elder Scrolls game worth playing?
Oh and ofcourse Vampire Bloodlines: the Masquerade.
That one is definitely one of the best RPG games I ever played
That's a shooter with light RPG elements. Nevertheless, OP should not skip it, it's great.
>Elderscrolls games are great too.
The only good game in that series is Daggerfall and it'll be probably too hard for OP to get into it.
Well if he is new to them, maybe it would be too clunky for him to like. Although going in order is the best.
Dont listen to this guy. Oblivion and Morrowind are both better than Skyrim in every aspect except maybe combat and visuals, but that's what mods are for.
>contrarian
Most people agree that the first Witcher has clunky gameplay.
it doesn't even have any RPG elements
Play the Witchers in order.
I wouldn't unless you're completely ready to embrace a FAR more realistic and "human" approach to the genre since we Westerns seem really dead set on making things less "fantastic world of a RPG that feels like it" and more "Shooter or Adventure game that uses RPG elements because their mother forced them at gunpoint to wear the RPG sweater to the party."
Go play it again, your memory is obviously failing.
I dunno. Diablo?
Except for DA:Origins, don't fall for the BioWare meme. They are glorified friend simulators of the worst kind.
Sup Forums aproved WRPG's:
>Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
>Deus Ex
>Witcher series
>TES: Morrowind
>Fallout: New Vegas
>Mount & Blade: Warband
>Gothic series, especially 2
Personal favorite of mine is Inquisitor, but its very niche and hit or miss for a lot of people.
If you're into CRPG's Planescape Torment, Baldur's Gate I & II, Arcanum, Neverwinter series and Pillars of Eternity are worth a try.
List some then.
Inventory and weapon upgrades are not "RPG elements".
Vampire - The Masquerade: Bloodlines
...
Liara is the only waifu that matters and she's qt.
t. tremendous weeb
Dark Souls has absolutely nothing in common with western RPGs.
It doesn't have any of the characteristic elements of western RPGs and its gameplay is Japanese to its core. It's a typical console action game.
gr8 b8 my dude, let's start a mass effect waifuwar right here
>SWTOR 1/2
I'm assuming you meant KOTOR1/2, but otherwise pretty good list.
Kotor 1 was a pretty much your typical star wars story, and it was great fun. Conversely, Kotor 2 is a deconstruction of the star wars thematics and it is a better game in a literary sense and even terms of gameplay mechanics, but it is kinda depressing to play. Also the first level is great the first time, but subsequent plays make it unbearable.
Why are Planescape Torment, Baldur's Gate I & II, Arcanum, Neverwinter series and Pillars of Eternity CRPGs and not WRPG? or other way around.
kys
>don't fall for the BioWare meme
>recommends Baldur's Gate
>glorified friend simulators
Roleplaying is meant to be experienced with other people, so you have simulated companions (like literally ever jrpg does as well). Looting dungeons alone isn't Roleplaying.
crpg means computer rpg
Can someone explain this "Dark Souls is WRPG" meme to me?
(you)
hence the "sorta" I tried to throw in to help differentiate. It has some rpg elements and it's certainly no JRPG, with a more western influenced art style, stat system and slower action combat.
What do you mean?
oh fuck. Yes, meant KOTOR. It's 5:38 am, haven't hit bed yet. My bad.
Vampire the masquerade bloodline, but DON'T BUY IT, the money goes to Activision and they killed the devs of the game.
Also Deus Ex series (start with the first, after playing vtmb it wouldn't feel clunky as they share pretty much the same mechanics).
After that, the usual: Ultima 6-8, Fallout series, Planescape, Arcanum, Baldur's, KOTOR, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, TES, Quest for Glory, Realms of Arkania, Might and Magic 3-8, Wizardry 7-8, Alpha Protocol, temple of elemental evil and all the recent crowdfunded CRPGs.
Just play some more JRPGs. Western RPGs are too complicated to learn and don't have actual plots.
Origins isn't bad but you can safely skip the rest. Avoid DA2 unless you plan to kill yourself soon and need incentive.
Guilty.
I know.
I was wondering why is there a distinction between CRPGs and WRPGs. Are they not the same in a sense? Most CRPGS are western. is it that WRPGs are on consoles too? Planescape is western and only on computers, whats the difference?
CRPG standed for Computer RPG, which typically means it runs on a computer equivalent to a pen and paper RPG system, and often has an isometric perspective and full control over party composition and the members themselves in terms of actions during combat and the like. For example, Baldur's Gate runs on Dungeons and Dragon's rule system, specifically I think it's Advanced D&D (2.x), 2.5 maybe?
Jesus Stage Diving Christ the typos, just about time for bed brothers.
Not the guy you're talking to but people often use CRPG for games like Fallout, Baldur's Gate, Torment, etc. where the player gets to make plot/dialogue choices, while WRPG in general could as well be a game like Diablo.
a noose
No. All WRPG and JRPG vidya are CRPG.
When you come to Los Angeles you can suck my cock.
Hmm, well alright, that seems to make sense.
Shit, I forgot Gothic, The Witcher and Divinity series (start with Divinity 2, the two first games are mediocre as fuck).
Also I've heard nice things of Geneforge, but haven't played any yet.
have a noose.
To add a couple things to my post here, the system is typically true to the rules of a pen and paper right down to rolling dice in the background for the results of actions that require dice rolls or some aspect of randomness. For the newer games, they may not all use an established rule set but the ones made up for those games (PoE for example) do have rule systems created for them that are typically published and able to be used in a tabletop setting.
Fallout New Vegas and VtMB are excellent RPGs if you're tired of shitty fantasy settings
Also Deus Ex, Kotor 2, Mass Effect and one of my favourites: Dragon Age: Origins
>363974480
I like this list.
Whatever you do don't play any bathesda games.
Most of their games embody everything wrong with WRPGs
This dude is on point
>Divinity series
Is it meant to be a parody series? I tried to like Divinity 2 but it's so stupid.
Just play witcher series, gothic series (1, 2, addon) and souls games
>has no skills
>has no character stats
>no level ups
>no attributes
>no class system
I like the game but come on man, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is not even close to being an RPG.
How well does Daggerfall run on modern machines?
You haven't played many RPGs then.
it runs fine off gog
Activision didn't kill the devs but otherwise you are correct.
Didn't know gog had it. Neat.
Witcher 3
Yes, the humour is awful, but from 2 and onwards the gameplay has been pretty good IMHO, and Original Sin 2 looks great too. Sadly Dragon Commander was left unfinished, but the VN elements are very fun, specially if you are a weeaboo.
Only played D:OS and the plot is so awful that I had to stop. Because there isn't much left to a game like that when the plot sucks. Except Co-Op I guess but I didn't want that.
They neither let them finish the game, nor market it at all (the ONLY jobs of any publisher), so the game failed and the devs went bankrupt, so yes, they killed Troika.
You didn't like the combat?
Well, nobody is perfect, I guess.
Deus Ex
don't play any of them. They're all shit and gay
Divinity: Original Sin.
Best game of the last 5 years.
It carried me a while but at some point it just became samey too. The murder investigation thing at the beginning was fun as fuck and after that it went all the way downhill to standard chosen one bullshit.
It's like a talented writer wrote the first part and then let his wife's 15yo son take over.
>Massive JRPG fan
>Loved the Witcher (suppose that's a European RPG though)
>Didn't hate the latest Deus Ex but even on hard difficulty found playing stealthy too easy
>Quit Dragon Age 1 within five minutes
>Quit Mass Effect 1 after seeing how awful the gunplay was
>Have Skyrim, but haven't played it yet
What should I play?
Troika was horrible at managing time and budget. On top of that, they worked on 2 games simutaneously while working on VTMB which is absolutely retarded considering how small Troika was. It's no wonder no publisher wanted to publish their fourth shitty game and they had to shut doors, good riddance.
I bought into the hype and played the first Witcher. I don't why people praise the series so much. The combat is horrible and clunky, and above all not fun. And the history is all over the place and confusing.
I payed for aroudn 15 hours and got so bored I didn't feel like playing anymore. Literally the ony thing that I enjoyed was fucking the girls.
Maybe RPGs just isn't your genre.
why even bother with the witcher when you have gothic (besides beating off to the girls)
Because people can enjoy more than one games series. Difficult to grasp I know.
You can't play the same games forever unless you have crippling autism, dementia or both.
System shock 2 is good if you're into horror or cyberpunk
I turned it the fuck off as soon as monkeys were running around. Meme game.
t. retard
Give the first Dragon Age another try. At first it might seem like a standard unoriginal story, but after Ostagar the game opens up and it gets a lot more interesting.
There is a mod for Skyrim called Enderal which is very well made.
>Quit Dragon Age 1 within five minutes
Do you have ADHD?
Nope, just no waifus
