I hope the success of Doom 2016 lets the dev know there's still a market out there for Serious Sam
lost somewhere in the early 2000's
there is a new VR game
Is it any good? Also it better not be the game they had been teasing for the past three years, I fucking hate gimmicks.
> Also it better not be the game they had been teasing for the past three years, I fucking hate gimmicks.
It's not even developed by the main team and mostly done by a separate division at Croteam consisting of four/five people.
Apparently, the two VR titles are some of the better ones out there but pretty damn expensive.
I asked one of the devs on Steam recently and he said "We cannot give any predictions at this time", which doesn't really bode well for me, it's been like 5 years since Serious Sam 3. Even taking into account Talos Principle, there should have been SOMETHING by now
I've been thinking the same thing, Serious Sam games aren't really that complex so I doubt they take that long to make, the only explanation is development complications.
>inb4 Croteam is shut down and we don't see a Serious Sam game ever again
I really hope not, all these other "horde" shooters that have come out recently can't hold a candle to Serious Sam.
Does anyone here know how to make custom weapons for SS3? I wanna make a shotgun that has shells on the side rack thing.
There's one mod on the workshop but it comes with a new animation that's kinda poor
When it's done..
>serious sam forever
please god no
they are working on it
there are 2 VR games they were also only made by like 3 people from the main team
the VR games also have co-op and you can kind of walk around and explore the newer one
probably one of the better VR games desu
I always wanted a second Will Rock, had a lot of fun with that.
>gunning down greek mythology creatures with a minigun
>halls of the mountain king in the background

user, there are only 2 people in existance that liked Will Rock. You and me.
>Serious Sam games aren't really that complex so I doubt they take that long to make
Decent and varied encounters and their respective areas are more difficult to do than you imagine.
There's a reason why so many custom maps and campaigns suck since it's not enough to just throw some enemies randomly into a large room.
Of course, I agree completely, but it's been five years since SS3. The First Encounter and The Second Encounter were only a year apart.
and me
Serious Sam 3 was pretty bad compared to the original. I'm afraid 4 will suck as well.
Will Rock's developers made Halo MCC and are now making Quake Champions.
Probably doing engine development. Everybody knows they've got a hard on for that sick engine and rightfully so.
ss3 was shit because it started as a different game
>croteam made 2 VR meme games about instead of sam 4
it's like they hate their own fans
Which was also the result of TSE being more or less an add-on to TFE, given that it reused tons of assets and a lot of stuff like the flamethrower that already existed but was cut or not implemented in time for TFE's release.
For the last time: it didn't
They reused a handful of assets from TEOR here and there like a watchtower and a helicopter and a couple of enemy models were from an old Doom-sequel proposal/concept demo but the rest was made for BFE.
me too
I will never forgive them for removing the knife and the revolvers. I pretty much never used the sledge and the pistol, whereas I looked for any excuse to use the first two.
>Never used the sledge
You don't know what you're missing out on. Smashing Gnaars is amazing
Really? I thought 3 was fucking amazing, if so then 1 must be a bona fide certified masterpiece.
t. Gggman dickrider
I was willing to give it a chance when I saw it in promo shots, but it just doesn't handle well, at least that's how I feel, I don't like being locked into animations. Whereas the knife just created a murder zone in front of you, it was amazing for clearing out hordes of Kleers.
That video really annoyed me. He barely talked about the new mechanics or weapons, no mention of Jewel of the Nile, and complaining about the game taking your weapons away?
One of his weaker videos
What about The Syrian Mutilator
When its done.
Personally, the only devs that I prefer to take their sweet time is From Software, CDPR and Croteam. I can understand if they prefered to do a new IP, a sequel to Talos instead of SS, but they say they're working on it, I accept the wait.
No matter how painful it is.
I just want some proof. Even some sketches would do
I completely forgot about it until you mentioned it now, I guess it was okay, but not very memorable it seems. The knife felt more skill/timing based.
Eh, I never much cared for that. I mean sure it did good damage but something about the animation and sound didn't really impress me
Me too. I'm guessing they want to keep people guessing so that when it does come out it's a surprise. I'm not doubting that they're trying to make SS4 the biggest game so far, the most fun, the most hordes, etc. Since they have such a hard-on for the Serious engine, it's possible the wait has been to upgrade it even further.
>Serious Sam will never have a good modding community
>only a 2 or 3 legitimately good weapon mods
>everything else ranges from mediocre to terrible
>most of the mods are just character models which you can't even use in singleplayer
>most of the mod authors are either assholes or never respond to comments
Shit sucks man
That's fine and all, but still, it's been 5 years. They could have said SOMETHING.
I still remember how pissed off I was during last year's E3 where instead of Serious Sam 4 they announced Serious Sam VR
>reminder that Serious Sam 3 had a budget of about $500,000
>TFE was made by a couple of bored Croatians in their spare time
Would you want SS4 to have a large budget?
Such is life. At least we know only 3 guys from Croteam were working on the VR thing so at least the main team is at work.
They have Devolver's backing so it's not going to be AAA budget but its still going to be a sizable investment.
Only if they put that money into improving the animation for enemies and weapons, and maybe the music.
Anything else would probably just be a waste.
Worst thing are the campaigns. Each one manages to be worse than the last.
The guy who made Horsam needs to be castrated
Those are pretty shit, but noam2000 also made a few good weapon mods so it's forgivable, even if he is a cunt
I remember playing this, though I don't remember if it was any good or not
>Decent and varied encounters and their respective areas are more difficult to do than you imagine.
>There's a reason why so many custom maps and campaigns suck since it's not enough to just throw some enemies randomly into a large room.
Reason why Painkiller Resurrection, Redemption and Recurring Evil sucks ass.
Who cares? 3 sucked.
I'd like a brand new IP to springboard off of Doom 4's success rather than just see all of the dead classic FPS series to come back.
I reckon that they started making it again after talos
but then they ended up designing a new gameplay mechanic and have decided to make a game around that like they did with talos
they're the masters of tangents
> which you can't even use in singleplayer
You technically can.
Just start a multiplayer game and set the player number to one.
You can even play with increased monster numbers and the MP modes like coin hunt solo which makes the singleplayer a bit more of an arcade game touch.

I want a new hexen game
Go play Daikatana, the second chapter kinda has that. It's honestly a lot of fun.
>the only devs that I prefer to take their sweet time is From Software
I'd rather have a new Heretic
I'm sure they're taking their time so Devolver's 2 huge franchises didn't come out at the same time (Shadow Warrior 2)
This wait is a bit ridiculous though
They're also helping out currently on Gamepire's SCUM.
