There are lots of twitch streams where when a person gets a donation, it automatically gets announced on the stream either by the streamer or sometimes an automated message. The problem is the they followed the twitch model too much for the stream. They should focus on the game and the commentary from the players, but that is it. When you start letting every customized message get announced to an audience, it focuses more on that crowd and less on what game itself.

They decided they wanted the normie audience because more money and that's exactly what they got.

Was originally about doing games quick and the runners meeting up and having fun together
Then the concept of raising money for charity stepped in and it's about getting donations in, stamping out anything that could stop that.

To top it off, the game crashed specifically because of going out-of-bounds in a certain area, which caused them to have to load a premade save of a different character in that same area.

the problem are runners who dont have shit to tell so they ask for donation messages 90 seconds into the run to fill the void created by their incompetence.

most runners live in their own little world where they think everyone knows the game they play inside out and the community around it.
they dont know how to sell the viewer the game, the run and themselves.

most simply dont talk at all or just tell us what we are seeing already which leads to bored viewers.

While the basic idea of that image is certainly a thing that happens, I'd say GDQ's issues are less about "normies" appropriating the culture and more about them being overly sensitive of not pissing off the charities they work with.

2012 and 2013 were the golden years. The event was getting popular, everyone was having fun.

2014 was when everything went to shit. Ever since then each GDQ has been more sterile, tranny filled and NO FUN ALLOWED than the last.

It's not just the rules, it's the atmosphere, lighting, motivation for running and even the way games are run now. Marathon strats are the norm now, almost no one does anything risky or hype because they don't want to look like an idiot in front of 200k people.
