I both fear and hope that it will be a new EVE'ish game.
Fear, because that means that selling .pngs is a valid business model, and we will be seeing scams like this en masse.
Hope, because I just want my EVE+ELITE.
Haven't donated a single dime doe.
why do you care what people spend their money on
help me here is this game out or still in development??
Because it sets a precedent, as soon as they get away with it it will spread to other games.
I don't give a fuck about Skyrim so paid mods in that game wouldn't affect me but if they had rolled it out successfully you better fucking believe it would have become standard industry practice within a few years, and that's not good news.
I honestly don't believe any one will actually spend 18,000$ on a digital ship to begin with
>Pay to win
How? There is nothing non-cosmetic in game that cant be bought without paying real money.
>Charging this much for digital content
The cheapest ship costs around 35 dollars, if people want to give them 18 thousand dollars, they are free to do so. Thats like saying kickstarter games shouldt accept donations of more than x dollars.
>IN STOCK"
Yeah i agree thats bullshit
you will always find some dumb redditor who does
just look at the Javelin that sold for 2k+ dollars
>Having every ship in the game from day one, including capital ships doesn't confer an advantage over someone who has to start with the basic ship and work their way up in a game where you can carve out territory
Come on now.
even if someone spent all that money to get that giant ship the only thing they would really be able to do is fly it, you need actual people on the ship to make it effective.
This. OPs argument is shit and has been invalid for years. Stay mad, angry lil white boi
Because we hardly have any good games on shit like iOS, precisely because it makes economic sense to re-make Clash of Clans again as oppose to making something that isn't actually shit. Shit succeeding is literally against your interests if you want something else.
I saw a pic in /scg/ of one fella in reddit who paid for it and was complaining about how he didn't want to play with anyone, so he couldn't use the bigass ship.
>A clan of 30 plays from day one in the normal starter ships
>A clan of 30 chips in for a capital ship from day one
>hurr durr not P2W
>pirates steal it
Oh nooo
and how many of those ships do you really expect to encounter?
You know that you can like, just not buy the game right?
>the star citizen community
As if furries, goons, sjws, and trannies weren't bad enough.
And no, this isn't doxxing. This guy's info has been public ever since he enrolled in that ship competition.
>Not wanting to try and take down some richfag's capital ship with your friends, first disabling it and then boarding it and killing everyone
it's being marketed as some kind of MMO, but every time there's any gameplay trailer it's a heavily scripted singleplayer scenario.
I heard their netcode is absolute shit tier and that's one of the reasons why playing it right now gives you 20fps.
but hey, one of our designers just made this new ship and it's on sale right now for only 200 bucks! Buy it!
Firstly this is donation for development, obviously CIG don't expect to sell these items at that value. It did also include every ship in the game and a visit to CIG studio.
Secondly it doesn't confer much of an advantage to a single player, as someone else posted, you need crew (either NPC or players) both of which cost a lot to upkeep, so it's not an instant win ship. Also having people in these ships from day one creates crewing opportunities for those people just starting so they have more to do than just fly around in their aurora. The main point of these huge ships is for Orgs to purchase and maintain using multiple players' incomes, and they will be purchaseable as a group (ie, each player donates towarsd an org's specific goal of purchasing the ship and they are responsible for a portion of its upkeep)
Thirdly nobody is making you buy this, just pay $45 for an aurora/mustang starter pack and wait til release like most people.
>not supporting your game to succeed
What does it matter? It's still pay to win by principle. Also do you really think the fucks buying these things are just going to sit around helping people out or something? They're going to park themselves in the most lucrative sectors and blow everyone else to shit for months until the playerbase catches up and gains access to capital ships.
you can play fine without buying that. it's meant to support development.
the game is no scam. it's already better than most aaa games, and it's still in alpha
>I heard their netcode is absolute shit tier
It is, and actually is one of the main reasons for poor performance. Netcode is getting a complete rework in 3.0 (the next big update to come out)
Are those KONG faggots playing this? It seems right up their alley.
>he game is no scam. it's already better than most aaa games, and it's still in alpha
Hello Chris.
>It's still pay to win by principle
all ships are easily earnable in-game
you getting nothing in that pack that a player who doesn't buy it can't earn on their own in a short time. basically it's a donation, and the reward is letting those people pick what ship they wanna use to start.
furthermore, there is no "win" condition in SC, and many ships are not intended for combat at all. the most popular professions are actually exploration and trade before piracy and bounty hunting.
you should know what you're talking about before you slander one of the few ambitious pc games in this era of console-driven mediocrity. dick.
hi derek
>captial ships
you know how many people got fucking Retaliator Heavy Bombers? A LOT, capital ships wont be that much of an issue, you could also just warp out before they kill you.
>Are those KONG faggots playing this? It seems right up their alley.
Yes, them and another group. I can't mention the other group's name because they're extremely booty blasted about everyone finding out about their history as furries.
Here's some Kong highlights...
>$18,000 for a digital ship
Eve Online.
What ever happened to the mocap studio they spent a million dollars on and decided to never use so they could send Chris overseas every month.
They do use it, there was clips from S42 filming in the last ATV on youtube.
>the foundation on which the entire game rests upon is still ETA UNKNOWN
>nobody know if it will actually be better
that sure gives me the confidence to spend hundreds of dollars on digital space ships.
The netcode currently in the game is the default cryengine netcode, which wasn't designed for handling so many clients (its aimed at 8-player fps multiplayer max) so they're re-writing it and it should be updated this year with 3.0. There's a minor upgrade happening with 2.6.1 in the enxt few weeks as well which should give a small fps increase.
user, this shit has already spread to everything.
All 3 game console fucks now have paid online, a service which provides practically nothing to the buyer but serves to cockblock the player out of using the one that they already paid for so they can deliver a glorified instant messenger service.
Gone will be the times where you can load up an older game and play online with someone on a console because it's "no longer supported" with a messenger system, you have your friends internet information and everything? 'Well too fucking bad goy'
Literally every game of any kind that has progression of any kind
If it's not Dota, someone will have everything unlocked and you won't.
Oh but specifically
>Carve out territory
Yeah, but then you get TWO guys and you take their territory. And they get three. But that's a slippery slope that has nothing to do with equipment.
I believe that package is not really everything.
It's already pay to win and the game isn't even out yet. I really don't understand why people think this will bee a good game. They've technically implemented microtransactions.
>bu-but everything is earnable in-game
look at GTA online
>Pay to win
No.
>Charging this much for digital content
Optional
It's to fund an expensive game that's still in development. All you have to pay is $45 so you can get a good starter ship and PU access.
>>Charging this much for digital content
And the game isn't even out, and won't be for years.
Pic related sort of. The original quote applies. "And then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak out."
