Do people shitting on the switch launch remember how horrendous the n64 launch was?

do people shitting on the switch launch remember how horrendous the n64 launch was?

>1 killer app and 3 games

as stupid as it is, console success isn't determined by their launch lineup.

the real question, is breath of the wild the same kind of killer app as super mario 64?

>how horrendous the n64 launch was?
Ya I had to stand in line with my father for like 3 hours at ToysRUs.

When the PS4 came out, there was endless shitposting about it's awful launch lineup. 3 years later, and suddenly it's okay when Nintendo do it.

>the real question, is breath of the wild the same kind of killer app as super mario 64?

probably, I see my normie friends posting about it on facebook and twitter constantly

b-b-but NINTENDO

See if people are going to say

>b-but Sony every time meme it's pathetic

I'm gonna start saying this

>on twitter
>calls others normie

This isn't about "b-b-but muh console of choice", it's just about hypocrisy that spawns from console war bullshit.

>One of the best games of all time
>Shit launch

Seriously though, the GameCube was the last console that had a legitimately great launch. You can't fault modern consoles for having shit launches anymore, that's just how it is. That's like trying to fault a bicycle for not having an air conditioner.

>The standard of 20 years ago, should be the same as the standard of today

3D zelda games sell like shit

Its still unacceptable
Breath of the Wild looks great and it ought to help reign in the casual market but no games for months on end is absolutely retarded

PW64 was amazing.

>is zelder scrolls skyrim the same kind of killer app as super mario 64?

not really but normies love that shit.

I don't care about the launch lineup; Nintendo makes quality software so I don't doubt that they'll deliver on that part.

The issue is that the console is a complete fucking mess of gimmicks and poor specs. The controller looks uncomfortable as fuck, the tablet feature is practically worthless, and all of that shit inflates the price when that money could have been spent towards better storage (32gb? What a joke), better hardware (so that multiplats can actually happen on this thing), and an actually competent controller that doesn't rely on gimmicks that constantly get in the way.

The N64 was also the start of the cancer known as "Let's not make enough consoles to meet demand bullshit".

I remember going to fucking Fry's Electronics on release day to pick up my preorder only to have the clerk tell me and like 70 other unsuspecting faggots that Nintendo didn't ship enough to meet demand and we would have to come in two weeks later and then I got the same fucking story. Took over a month to get my N64 console.

When the SNES came out and my brother picked it up (I was still in grade school), Nintendo shipped exactly how many consoles there store requested to meet demand.we got to play on release day and it was fucking great.

Yes. I also remember the games costing $80.
N64 was the first console I bought with my own $$$ when I was 12. Got it around launch without any games. I'd just rent Mario, wave race and pilotwings. And then when they finally went down in price. I ended up buying my own games or got them as birthday or Christmas gifts,

I got my N64 on launch day with SM64, Star Wars SOTE and Turok. It had a great launch.

Hmm sounds like every other console on the market nowadays, including the Wii U. Really makes you think.

This is why nobody gives a fuck about Nintendo anymore. Because there's not a single goddamn thing to play in between their major releases. PS4 and XB1 at least have multiplats and give away free little games with their subscriptions. With Nintendo+ or whatever it'll be called, we'll get beaten over the head with how lucky we are to be able to play SMB3 for the millionth fucking time.

App?

>IT'S OKAY SINCE THEY HAD A SHITTY LAUNCH IN 1996 TOO
No.

What a fucking stupid analogy. A bicycle with an air conditioner is a hindrance, or at the very least pointless, but a good launch lineup for a console is desirable. The premise you established literally had nothing to do with your analogy, you literal 11 year old.

>it's okay when Nintendo do it.
I've counted at least 15 staunchly anti-Nintendo threads on the catalog already. If you literally have to spend a solid minute searching for a single positive thread about the Switch, I don't think the general sentiment of Sup Forums is that it's okay when Nintendo does it.

Analogy aside, Nintendo can't be shit on for having a bad launch because there isn't a single other console this gen that had a better one. Does it suck that this is the new standard? Yes, of course. But that's the way it is.

Are kids honestly saying having Mario 64 the most talked about game of the generation as a launch title made the N64 a bad launch?
Holy shit...
>I went to one store and they didn't have! Bullshitshit!
You're a retard.

>N64
>Succesful.

It was succesful at getting fucked in the ass by the PS1.

>N64
>Console success

Real talk: N64 was trash.

Yeah :(

It truly was.
Compressed sound, pop up, horrible draw distance, blurry textures, slowdown.

Show me one PSX game that can compete.

Top-of-the-line lighting. Anti-aliasing. Proper 3D rendering. No loading times.

>console success isn't determined by their launch lineup.

The N64 flopped. Your example sucks and proves the opposite.

It didn't in North America. You can thank Goldeneye and WWF games for that.

The demand exceeding artificial supply shit was quite real. Lots of people didn't receive preorders on time and lots of N64 were being sold for $100-200 more than they were originally worth.

I know because I resold my preordered N64 for like $450 so I could buy more PS1 games and get another N64 6 months later after the Christmas season.

Stop being such an underaged faggot.

>console success isn't determined by their launch lineup.

I mean the N64 did better than the Wii U and Gamecube but it was clearly the turning point where most of their issues with third parties and weird hardware began.

That said, yeah, a lot of consoles out there have launched with mediocre to garbage lineups and still done well. There's mostly a lot of noise here becasue

A) It's launching mid-generation so its launch lineup is being compared to the lineup of consoles that are hitting their stride

B) PS4 and XBone had mediocre launch lineups if you subtracted cross-gen games, but you knew that all of the devs you were buying PS360 games from were eventually going to make the jump to PS4/XBone so it was still a safe bet. People right now are still not sure if this is going to be another Wii U where Nintendo carries the thing on their own or not.

>Admitting you've been here that long
Holy shit

The n64s killer app was goldeneye, literally the only reason to own an n64

Again you're a fucking retard. What kind of person goes to one store and then gives up? Shut the fuck up. Probably just lying.

Just because I don't hang out on LUE @ Gamefags anymore doesn't mean I can't shitpost with my ancient ass somewhere else on the internet.

Back in my day phones weren't smart and the only games you could play on the was prank calling the bowling alley to see if they had 10lb balls.

Literally who gives a fuck.

Super mario 64 is the most overrated game of all time. It sucks.

You do realize what a preorder is right? Oh no that's right, you are to fucking stupid to figure that out.

Listen kid. It's clear you're a fucking retard. In the 90s you weren't guaranteed a pre order. You went to multiple stores to buy what you wanted.

>3 years is a long time
How new are you?

>In the 1990s I knew how everything worked at every single store! I know because I took pics of everything on my Gameboy camera for proofs

The first Playstation launch was also shit, with 2 Mahjong games. Ridge Racer was decent, at least.

>>One of the best games of all time
>>Shit launch
At the time literally nobody knew whether it'd be good or not.
Much like BoTW, yeah?

K, kid.

>At the time literally nobody knew whether it'd be good or not.
It's was fucking 3d Mario you underage shit. Nothing in video games will ever top that kind of feeling.

You're retarded.
People were excited for a Mario game in 3D, yes. Just as people are excited for an open world Sonic.
One of these games turned out to be garbage.
Hype isn't enough to know whether a game will be good. It just so happened that Nintendo struck platinum with 64.

>People were excited for a Mario game in 3D, yes. Just as people are excited for an open world Sonic.
You have to be like 15. Nobody would downplay 3d like this.

I'm not downplaying 3D, I'm saying that two games doesn't make for a good launch even if one of those games retroactively turned out to be a gold mine.

People were buying 3d Mario because it was 3d mario.

And people bought the Wii because of Wii Sports. Doesn't mean the Wii had a good launch line up, does it?

If the system sold well with a single game, than yes it did have a good launch lineup you stupid fucking idiot.

You're comparing Mario 64 to Wii sports?

Looking forward to it.

really do

some moar

And you have no way of knowing that until after the fact. If you're saying a launch lineup is only good if it sells well then you have no way of saying whether ANY console has a good launch lineup until after launch.

Is it somehow a crime to compare the launch of two consoles and their killer apps?

enjoy

>a game advancing the Zelda formula is normie shit
Please tell me what kind of Zelda game is not normie shit, just so I understand the high-valued standards of Sup Forums.

they did a very good job on that trailer

One was a box in game...

haven't played a Zelda game in years

And they say that Metal Gear is the most cinematic game.

my last nintendo was a ds. started with nes.

Except that Mario 64 was exclusive to that platform. Also Nintendo was riding on the good will of the SNES for third parties.

Launching with shit all for a line up seriously hamstrings the system, third parties were already uninterested and once the early adopter retards have gotten their console there is no reason for normies to buy this at this price when there are better options. Fast forward a couple of years and three worthwhile exclusives and Nintendo will already be looking at abandoning this for their new platform because they were unable to establish a significant install base.

A strong start isn't the only thing necessary for this thing to do well; but especially after the Wii U, it would have helped.

...

...

And? The N64 was a terrible console with very few good games. And the Switch looks to have even less good games than the N64 with only 80 games even in development.
