Paid online has never been a good thing. Nintendo has less justification for it though. And they have too many series that have relied on the free online system they've used for ages. Their abysmal online capabilities were always made up by the fact it's free, but not anymore.
Capcom literally only cares about the Japanese playerbase and they like to play local multiplayer most. That's why MH3U on 3DS didn't even have online.

Any price wouldn't justify it. Nintendo's online services have either had poor server quality or unnecessary restrictions or systems in place. Getting a NES/SNES ROM you get to keep for a month before having to get a different one is quite literally worse than what both PS4 and Xbox give. So yes, it is worse when Nintendo does it.
Maybe a drone like you is fine with supporting the cancer of consoles, but I've never bought a console with sub fees and I am not going to start. Especially when Nintendo has no good justification for it.

Paid online subscriptions are literally cancer, and I'm surprised and disappointed that Nintendo is adopting such an anti-consumer policy. With that said, I'll probably be be signing up for the service, albeit begrudgingly. I continue to support Nintendo's products because unlike their competitors, I can trust them to put out polished, high quality titles on a decently consistent basis. I can't think of any Playstation games I'd even be tempted to give my money to for access to online multiplayer, but Splatoon, Mario Kart and Smash?
