I'm not gonna spend the time looking up a source, but reports have been floating around that Nintendo only plans to ship two million Switch consoles at launch, and that's worldwide. That leaves MAYBE one million Switch units for North America, and that's being hopeful.

Nintendo thinks they're being smart by undershipping these things because they don't want millions of Switch's sitting in warehouses like what happened with the Wii U. What they don't realize is that most normies will get tired of waiting in the months to follow the Switch's launch, and then they'll never follow up and buy the console because the launch excitement has waned.

In turn, by virtue of having such a small install base, third party developers will sit on their hands and "wait to see how the climate shapes up for the Switch." They won't develop games for it because every single one of them will be waiting around for an install base to show up, and this will lead to the same drought of games that the Wii U and the Vita faced. Because there's so few games to buy normies won't be goaded into purchasing the console. The cyclical problem of devs waiting for users and users waiting for devs to get on the Switch train will start, the console will sell poorly, and the people who do buy it will be racked with buyer's remorse unless they're happy with ONLY Nintendo games.
