There's nothing new to talk about, is there?

Hopefully they talk more about the setting soon, because I'm already sold on the gameplay.

I can't be the only one expecting this to be dark as fuck.

First for Master Mummy

Why is he purple? Why is he a mummy?

>dark
What do you mean? The story?

We don't need eighty arms threads a day. It's divilge into waifu posting anyways.
Mods.

Bandages doesn't look that appealing to me, to be honest. He looks like he would be an easy target.

The lab with all the bizarre artwork makes me really interested in what's going on here.

>That fucking neck

...

But it looks FUN

Theyre probably robots like mega man or something
Hopefully there will be a DNA arm fighter

>Robots

Considering the DNA image in the lab, and the fact that one of the normal looking characters rides in a robot, I doubt it.

>It'll be months before we hear from this game again

Fuck you Nintendo. Why?

Because mummys are purple

OHHHHHHH OHHHHHOHHHHOHHHH

this thread needs more ribbon pubes

Ribbon girl will probably help sell ARMS

When the fuck is new info coming

probably not for a few weeks

Nintendo's focus right now is on the Fire Emblem direct tomorrow

Come on OP, cool it on the threads.
We don't have any new info to discuss and it's just been the same things repeated.

E3?. Arms isnt a lunch title

It's suppose to release before e3

I hope Little Mac isn't in this game, so it can stand on its own better.

Man, I really hope Nintendo host a Nintendo Direct some time after Switch launch which gives us new info on Arms, as well as a chance of a Sm4sh port on Switch with discounts for Wii U owners of MK8 and Sm4sh.

Why is this dude so pissed. It looks like someone took his picture right after stubbing his toe.

What neck user?

>Sm4sh port

That's retarded. They're just gonna make 5

>people are talking about games in Sup Forums
>MOOOOOOOOOOOOODS

Oh. Well excuse me im retarded. whats the release date? Thought it was much later this year. Also hope it isnt just 5 characters.

Sometime in spring

>Also hope it isnt just 5 characters.

You retarded?

I need cute Colgate pics pronto.

its gonna be sometime in the spring. also im positive that the characters weve seen are just from the demo versions

>squid character with tentacle arms
Make it happen Nintendo

>rope for a cowboy

That's all I can think of. What other "can be swirled into a spring" material is there?

>spring

Heh.

You are bevause you didnt reqd my previous post where i clearly stated i was retarded. Fuckin retard.

Electrical cables, bonus points if it's another black character with lightning powers.

I'm pretty sure he's just memeing at this point

>niggers
>in MY arms

no

>I got to try ARMS at the Switch demo event in my country yesterday, and I’ve got to say it’s fun. It’s everything you could want from a game like Wii Boxing, and the arcade vibe is strong in this one. It reminds me of cult arcade games like Windjammers, SEGA’s Virtual On and Capcom’s Powerstone… Come to think of it kinda feels like a Capcom game or a SEGA/Dreamcast game actually, even though it’s developed by the Mario Kart 8 team. Something about the colors and the “energy” of the game I think.

>But is it fun, you may ask. Why yes, yes it is. It seems to have a good amount of depth beyond the surface. Between the extensive mobility the game offers – e.g. full 360° movement, dashes, evades, jumps, including a quadruple jump for one of the characters, grabs, super attacks, charged attacks, blocking, character abilities and selectable gloves with different properties – and the accuracy of the motion controls, this feels more like a bonafide fighting game where actual technique and reflexes are involved than a party game. There were only one arena and five characters in the demo, but Nintendo has already stated that there are going to be more. Here’s a video where the Nintendo Treehouse guys go into detail about the mechanics:

seanmalstrom.wordpress.com/2017/01/16/email-dont-underestimate-arms/

Again, they need a direct for it.

He needs more porn

This.
So much this.
A direct and more hands on events.
well done character trailers/revels for the characters we didn't see yet
Maybe TV ads too

They will 100% make character reveal videos

Because he's dead.

Fuck off, Sup Forums.

this neck think is fantastic

Wait for japs to take a liking towards ARMS, then the barafags will churn up something

>:3€

Nah, I highly doubt it.

It will get some push, especially if Nintendo sees how we're reacting to it, but it's not getting those levels of hype.

>but it's not getting those levels of hype.

It's a fucking Nintendo EPD game. Why the hell wouldn't it get that kind of push?

Because ultimately fighting games are niche, and this is a fighting game with lite mechanics.

Listen, I'm hyped as fuck for ARMS. Seriously, I am. After Zelda it's my most anticipated Switch game. But it's a basic concept that, unless expanded upon with a serviceable single player mode (something Splatoon almost got, but failed and was saved by online play, and something that Mario Karts have been getting worse and worse at providing), it's unlikely this thing is getting stellar reviews. It's genre only hurts sales more.

>and this is a fighting game with lite mechanics.

It's way to early to make that call.

I want to believe, user. But the movement mechanics that the characters have are pretty much the only thing that makes them unique, seeing as lots of, if not all ARMS, are going to be shared across characters.

Who do you want to guest star? Hey, it might be possible, DK showed up on Punch Out

I wanna suck his big purple dick

Fighting games are niche because of how abstracted and, in some cases, complex the mechanics can be. Smash is an example of a fighting game with simple mechanics and a framework that rewards playing at your own level sufficiently enough that it's seen a lot of success. Not going to say this means Arms will be successful, there are tons and tons of games that tried to "simplify" fighting games and either failed financially in spite of their noble goal, or managed to produce a boring game. Arms could be like that. But input complexity isn't the end all for a competitive game.

Even if it's possible, I'd prefer no guest stars. I want Nintendo to have enough faith in its new IPs that it doesn't tether them to more successful properties to push them along. Nintendo needs to expand outward from their established stable, not lean back in on them at every turn. Splatoon did great in that regard. I'll accept a guest character happily if it's a last-ditch effort to revitalize a game that was otherwise failing, or if it happens in a later game in the series after its already proven itself.

>But the movement mechanics that the characters have are pretty much the only thing that makes them unique

And, you know, their damage output, attack speed, health, and other abilities.

Master Mummy is slow as fuck, but he's got super armor and can heal.

>not getting the reference
>Sup Forumsposting to be a shit
>le ebin tumblr boogieman

why has Sup Forums become new furry

Noted, I forgot about Master Mummy.

I hope the other characters have just as interesting mechanics. I am a bit disappointed in Ninjara and Mechanica, to be honest. See, if they get weapon exclusivity i.e. on Ninjara having Chakram or Mechanica having Revolver, that would definitely be a reason to pick them over other characters. But we've seen that Ribbon Girl and Spring Man's ARMS can be used by other characters.

Dhalsim, Little Mac, and Mike Tyson

The more impressions I pick up and the more I watch, both about the game itself and people's reactions to its reveal, the more convinced I become that Nintendo did a poor job of initially communicating ARMS and its potential. At the very least they did a bit of a disservice in trying to pick up the Western audience. I've written in here before that I thought the trailer and Yabuki's demonstration felt a little redundant, but its placement within the conference didn't do it any favors in that manner either. I get why they did it, but I think for ARMS's sake having it immediately follow up 1 2 Switch was not a good idea. The fact that its trailer even starts up in largely the same way as 1 2's with the fake serious "showdown" and the big focus on people doing motion controls instead of what the game itself has to offer, I think, colored a lot of people's early opinions into dismissing ARMS out-of-hand (heh) as a slightly more stylish attempt at waggle-boxing rather than a more "legitimate" fighting game. The novelty of slowly explaining "when you punch, your character punches," wore out a long time ago and the game's real strategy and depth were barely touched on. I liked that they showed a demo match to give people an idea of the actual game screen, but if that's the idea they really shouldn't have completely glossed over the fact that the characters maneuver differently, and definitely shouldn't have blown right by the switchable fists aspect. The result is that aside from some extremely brief and uninformative clips at the very end of the trailer, all most viewers saw of ARMS without looking at more in-depth coverage later would have been two people flailing springy-arms at each other and that's it. No wonder there's so much concern about content

This thing NEEDS a dedicated direct

Doesn't Ribbon girl have more jumps than the other characters? Also it seems that the different hands you can equip have some different effects on the same characters even using the same ones.

PRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRPT

Note that we don't actually know what everyone's glove loadouts are, aside from defaults. They've said that it isn't limited to 3 and there will be ALOT more in the full game

anyone else thinks that this game has the perfect engine for a one piece game

They should have revealed it like they did Splatoon at E3 2014. They thoroughly explained how the game plays and later showed a trailer showing those concepts in action.

youtube.com/watch?v=nWdPJeY7eYg

a human sized Aquarion

youtube.com/watch?v=FgvQgHIbF-U

Funny enough, they actually did an extended presentation of it at he Japan even that did a slow trickle of the game mechanics which communicates this idea a whole lot better.

Here's hoping JC gets to show off what this game can do in a Direct at some point.

I have heard this, but no streams confirm it. Her dash and air dash cancel are super fast, though.

>I have heard this, but no streams confirm it. Her dash and air dash cancel are super fast, though.

Yeah, Ribbon has 3 short air jumps

I think ProJared had some video of him playing her and doing it.

Yeah i agree. I also felt it was a mistake not to at least mention in small text in the corner or something that traditional controls can be used since people don't dismiss it as the typical motion control bullshit since thats a huge turn off for a lot of people.

I hear Ninjara's teleport is apparently very versatile in use so we'll have to wait and see

I'm gonna post a super long winded article of all the shit someone found while playing ARMS.

This is the video he refers to throught the post: youtube.com/watch?v=s-TYLK9cMEo&feature=youtu.be

>Here's everything we picked up on(I've put timestamps in here for the video to refer back to).

>Characters
>Ninjara (my friends main) is top bloody tier -
Bloody hell this character has the best mobility within the game (see 1:48 and 4:04 for amazing speed and dodges). He is nimble, quick and his air dash is a mini teleport which results him him being invincible AND you can control which way you air dash.
****Prepare to get sick of seeing this character because he is exceptionally good.

>The Mummy/Fat Kan-ra (my main) -
>He has the worst mobility but has a nice double jump. If you block you also gain health back. It's this characters special block property. (See 5:50)

>Mechanicca or which we called her, Tronne Bonne -
>She basically is Tronne from Marvel. She has an air dash you can hold.

>Ribbon girl -
>Has a decedent throw which leaves the opponent still flying in the air. If you play on a stage with a bounce pad. She can get some nice combos from enemies that land on it from he grab. He grab is also nice in that it's a great keep away game. Her grab throws enemies nearly back to the full arena.

>Stages:
>-You can break the test tubes on the chemical plant stage can be broken (see second match)
>-There is a grave yard stage to which the middle of the arena can be broken. This reveals a bounce pad for an dynamic stage change.
>-The main stage (see Match One) that my friend and I referred to as "Final Destination of Arms" is an amazing stage. Mainly because of how absurd it can be for any rocking the Massive Purple ARMs I was using.

(1/??)

(2/??)

>Now the good stuff (The tech we found):
>There is a mechanic in the game where your Arms will power up with an attack with an elemental ability whereby you will gain, fire, electric and some other properties. In the case of fire, you take burn damage, but with electric powered up Arms, you gain stun. Stun is important because it means the opponent loses all control of their character AND their Arms.

>The stun+grab combo:
>*** The name of the ARM is called Sparky (see 0:07 for Ninjaras loadout. ARM slot 2 (the gloves) are called Sparky)).
>(See 2:55)
>At this point I get hit with an elemental Stun Punch which leaves me open. The stun time is around 1.5 seconds but you can easily follow up for a combo which means you can grab or even go into your Super Barrage. It really is the best and easiest combo set up we found.
In the video you can see I get hit by this twice in a row from that time stamp into the same stun grab combo (see again at 6:10). It's a nice bread and butter.

>Why Sparky is a good ARM and how it works:
>If you charge up your left and right ARMs (providing you have Sparky on both hands) you stun that side of the opponent. So if you get hit with a Right Sparky punch, you can move but lose the right side vice versa. However, if you get with BOTH Sparky Punches, you lose access to your whole body leaving you open for even more punishment.

>So why Sparky?
>With Sparky you only need to hit your opponent once which will stun that side/body them. However, any followup attacks which knock them out of stun.
Trident is the name of another Arm which has electrical properties. At 5:50 I hit my friend with a charged Trident. Since it's a triple hit unlike Sparky which is a single, the first hit of Trident causes the stun (what you want) but then the second and third hit cause a heavy knockdown which means you can't really get a follow up combo. Maybe some Oki but I prefer the grab.

(3/3)

>The instant charge:
>There is a mechanic in this game where you can gain elemental properties to your punches by holding in Dash or Jump or just not attacking for about 2 seconds. Doing this gives you the advantage of elemental damage if you the land a hit. However, we found that by jumping, air dashing and then holding air dash, upon landing you gain the elemental property immediately upon landing. Once we found this, we implemented this into our games on grab knock down.
>Perfect examples here:
>Mummy - 1:40 and 4:39
>Ninjara - 4:03 and 5:17
>You'll see that as soon as we land, we instantly have our elemental attacks again upon landing within the first few frames.

>Stage combos
>If you knock the opponent into a bounce pad, you can keep punch them for insane combo damage. I mean I almost managed to do do a 75% combo by activating Super then doing one punch into another punch while my friend was flailing on the bounce pads being knocked back into them. I think for characters like Tronne and Ribbon Girl, this can be pretty good due to their throws. It also give characters like the Mummy a bit more mobility. It's a good stage but can be stupid with Supers activated and when you chain your punches. (see first 40 seconds of the first match. My friend and I utilising the stage pads around us)

>Super Cancels:
>You can cancel into Super at any point from your punch arm. This means from startup, active, and recovery frame. You can cancel into Super on hit. You can also cancel into Super from Grab on hit and from when the animation shows you throwing the opponent.

>Cancelling your opponents Super (MASSIVE SALT)!
>We also found that by grabbing your opponent who is in Super mode will INSTANTLY lose their Super Mode. There were some matches were we would activate Super, nearly the next few frames get grabbed and then lose our powered up state. If you see your opponent go into Super Mode, GRAB THEM! This mechanic is a huge point to learn.

the fuck is that

Yeah, in terms of setting up, Sparky seems pretty broken. However, Boomarang can curve around shields and Chakram does a tight circle around as it returns back to the fighter which means it can get a decent follow up. I am almost certain that Chakram bounces off of walls if it misses, as well.

There's some neat footage of punch cancels and grab cancels. If you aim just right, you can break the grab netting by punching down the center and hit the opponent, too.

Nips better not fail me now

Does this game even have combos?

I wonder how well this game would work in an arcade

the aesthetic makes me think it will tie in with splatoon in some way but I wish it had just been a virtual ON game instead
