Nintendo switch mario zelda machine

Nintendo averages 47 million lifetime a console.

Over under on the switch

switch sales 86-92 million

>excluding the wii nintendo only averaged selling 29 million consoles since 1996

Nintendo really is doomed.

I'll go with that average. The Nintendo Switch sales 29 million lifetime

Nintendo is going to chase those Wii sales and make gimped hardware until not even the die-hard Nintendrones want to buy their 15-years-behind hardware for more money than what the competition is charging.

...

50 million at most. 20 million the least

They're also trending downward with 1 lightning-in-a-bottle outlier.

>make gimped hardware until not even the die-hard Nintendrones want to buy their 15-years-behind hardware

cause powerful hardware worked so well for them the last couple of times

40-50 million life time. PS4 will continue to dominate this gen. Probably sell more than wii and ps2

N64's fuck-up was expensive carts when devs could go to PS1 and print discs.

Gamecube's fuck-up was doing nothing to entice 3rd parties back while Sony capitalized on the demand for DVD players at the time and swelled in sales.

Nintendo didn't give a shit about 3rd party cost concerns, and then they failed to read the market. "Doing what the others did" regarding hardware isn't what fucked them over, doing what the others did worse was.

I'm guessing it will sell more that the WiiU and GC just because its the "alternative" they made to portables, and that may be when it already has a price cut and actually has released exclusives. And those numbers are not even that good, maybe hitting N64's numbers at the end of its lifetime is a good enough goal for now

Another of my guesses is that eventually they may ditch the "home console experience" and start sellign the portable side on its own for a cheaper price (like $50-100 cheaper). If they do this, it may actually sell closer to what their portables do...

Answer me seriously? Why WOULDN'T you want nintendo to fail and go 3rd party?

What advantage is there to YOU as a consumer to keep having to buy another console just for mario and zelda?

Creative freedom.

If Nintendo goes to sony it wouldnt be nintendo anymore. Sony would ruin it.

What are you talking about?

Nintendo is the reason I buy a console. Everything else is available on PC. Usually with better modding scenes, more customisable controls and more configuration options than console releases.

Not to mention steam sales making the games piss cheap later on.

How can you possibly justify sony/ms consoles when the PC exists?

Also switch will sell well, but considering it'll be the 3DS replacement as well as the Wii U it won't sell enough. As a home console it'll probably beat the cube and wii u for example, but it won't sell anywhere near what the ds/3ds manage/d.

There is none, and it allows Nintendo to be ridiculous with their pricing.

My dream for Nintendo is for their hardware to fail to a point where their investors just make them run a game client on PC.

Free online, graphics potential well beyond anything Nintendo is ever going to be willing to make, backwards compatibility forever. They could even still make their gimmicky controllers if they really wanted, and maybe other devs (indie probably) would make games utilizing them and give added incentive for people to buy them.

But no, they will continue to sell hardware where the only thing modern about it is the price, fail to attract 3rd parties due to this, pump out their exclusives, shake down loyal fans for their VC "Upgrade" fees, and make good 1st party games that would be so much better if not limited by their hardware choices.

That's the worst part - I think Nintendo is a great developer. I would love to see what their artists could do without limits. What would BotW look like developed for PC?

Do you know how video games work? Unless sony was publishing the game it takes no part in the development. Do you think every game on the PS4 gets published by sony?

Worst sony could do is for some reason (the wouldn't) say that nintendo couldn't develop a game for their console, and in that case, there's microsoft or steam

They could always self publish...

Having less monopoly and more diversity is never bad, I think the switch won't do too good but nintendo going 3rd party wouldn't benefit gaming

Also consoles and their companies are already pretty cancerous, I can't imagine how much worse it would be if it was just Sony and Microsoft

Because I don't buy the other consoles in the first place. Why doesn't Sony go third party so I don't have to buy another console just to play Gravity Rush?

it flopped so fucking bad that they will barely sell 5 millions

nintendo is fucking out

>I can't imagine how much worse it would be if it was just Sony and Microsoft.

It basically is already. And it is pretty bad.

Nintendo survives purely on the power of their exclusive library. If they just bothered to drop the gimmicky shit and delivered a competitive console then they could easily dominate the competition. At this point playstation and xbox barely have any exclusive and share most of their library with PCs. All they have to do is offer the same features + exclusive library + multiplatform library and they win.

>What would BotW look like developed for PC?
so only graphics matter

ok i get you

is this bait?
you can play wii and wii u games, why would you EVER buy a nintendo console when they can be emulated on pc?
on the other hand you can't emulate xbox/ps3-4 games

Because sony and microsoft have been successful with third parties, meaning that even if you prefer to game on PC, there is an alternative in the market for a cheaper and easier (inb4 autist pc gamers start trying to pick this apart as if PC has no flaws) alternative method of gaming.

That is why the other two consoles exist, as an alternative platform for third parties. Nintendo has an awful history with third parties, and drives them away all of the time, that is why nintendo consoles are basically first party machines, and why there is no reason for them to not go third party, except greed

Specs boosts also allow for more complex AI and more enemies on-screen, and greater enemy variety, not to mention physics etc.

>Specs boosts also allow for more complex AI and more enemies on-screen, and greater enemy variety, not to mention physics etc.
this is bullshit, it's only a cover for "muh graphics"

there's games released 15 years ago with more complex AI, more enemies on-screen, and greater enemy variety than modern games

The Switch is not a home console though, its more of a handheld that you can plug in at home to your tv.

it'll sell 35 million. Total flop if it's going to be their only hardware.

>there's games released 15 years ago with more complex AI, more enemies on-screen, and greater enemy variety than modern games

Name one

Is there anything wrong with liking decent visuals? Cant't we have both like in the 00's

i think it's total shit, but even halo 1

>The Switch is not a hand held though, its more of a home console that you can take with you.

>Switch is a half baked console
>hardware is fine
>software is beyond garbage tier
>failure to attract 3rd parties is detrimental
>being pushed out the door prematurely thanks to Zelda
>Nintendo have fallen outside the times; the online is horrendous and nowhere near competitive
>Switches failure could see Nintendo IP's sold to consoles/steam

If you want to bring emulation into this sure you can emulate wii/wii u games, but you can pirate the PC versions of xbox/pswhatever games. Both sides are equally open to piracy. But if you're buying shit nintendo has clearly been the better option for people that already own a PC.

It's such a shame too because they had so much hype after the closer look trailer

i'de go 10 million

its going to be less than the U fire sure

Its got a screen and is not very powerful. I may be wrong but Nintendos handhelds sell much better than home consoles these days, I think this is more of a successor to the 3ds than the Wii U.

>Have to use phone app for voice chat
>Paid online only giving you either a NES or SNES, not both and only for 1 (ONE) month
>But the new mario looks so good

Why do their games have to be hampered by their retarded business?

yeah dude i can't wait to play those uncharted and bayonetta ports on pc xDDD
i can play almost the entirety of the wii catalog on pc, wii u emulation is making progress quite fast, yet ps3/360 emulation isn't even remotely close to being considered playable
what's wrong with you?
>But if you're buying shit nintendo has clearly been the better option for people that already own a PC.
????
what does this even mean
i think you're confusing emulation with piracy

>Switch
>hardware is fine

You should include the handhelds as well since The Switch is going to be a handheld (a terrible expensive one) for people in Japan while a console for the west (a terrible underpowered one)

as far as i'm concerned console gaming shouldn't exist anymore

With no action from nintendo, i give it around 15mil.
Unless they do more than slowly bring the usual games to it and lower the price as slowly as they usually do I don't see them getting any more than a little more attention than the Wii U before the low sales sink in and 3rd parties abandon it completely much faster than ever before.
A smash hit game, an SKU with better focus on the portability or home use not jack of all trades master of none, A significant price cut in time for christmas 2017, any or all of these things could save it but nintendo is stuck in a little self satisfied bubble so they're all impossible until they snap out of it.
I thought the Wii U would have done it but they just curled up into a ball and started getting back on the substance abuse that is motion control party games

>Free online, graphics potential well beyond anything Nintendo is ever going to be willing to make, backwards compatibility forever. They could even still make their gimmicky controllers if they really wanted, and maybe other devs (indie probably) would make games utilizing them and give added incentive for people to buy them.

Speaking as a Nintendrone, I don't think I'd be opposed to this, in theory. The problem with Nintendo designing stuff for PC (or any other console) is that their games are usually tied very closely with their hardware. I think their issue is that they like knowing that their hardware and games are played concurrently, so say, designing Arms for PC without knowing that everybody will have the experience of playing with the Joycons, no longer a requirement for the platform, harms the artistic integrity the game might have. There's very little point to Arms without the Switch's tech. Similar deal with Splatoon. Their Marios and Zeldas would probably be fine though, so I dunno. It's a complicated situation.

With how game systems are becoming more and more like PC now though, you might have a point. Short of literally becoming like the other two, the only gimmick Nintendo can realistically pursue at this point IS the whole switching mechanic.

>wanting to play corridor simulator and titty witch simulator

that aside, you can can emulate wii shit, and pirate the ps/xbox games that have come to PC ie, basically fucking everything except like maybe four games, oh and the yakuza franchise as of right now until they announce the upcoming PC verisons.

I know what emulation and piracy are, but I agree we must be having crossed wires somewhere. Because as far as I'm concerned if you own a PC, the only console with something to offer is the nintendo one, you can pirate most sony/ms games with no extra hardware, but nintendo shit always needs the gimmicky controller like the wiimotes and wii u controller. So when it comes to buying extra shit you usually end up buying nintendo shit either way.

I'm going to say slightly under at 44.

It's a novel enough concept to attract normies, but not enough so to reach the fad status that the Wii did. The name is actually catchy, the marketing is actually there, and there's no confusion about the name. It already has its killer app in Breath of the Wild, and plenty of announced titles that will attract a core audience. No one is going to buy a Wii U for BotW, and people that already own a Wii U are very likely big enough Nintendo fans that they'll be buying a Switch. The price point is very modest and it will only ever get cheaper. Anyone who thinks this will bomb is delusional.

However, its technical limitations and lack of third party support will keep it from Ironman numbers. It's never going to come close to the PS4. I doubt it will ever become an issue, but its lack of 4k and VR support will become huge negatives if either of those ascend from being mere memes and buzzwords to actual standards and features.

>software is beyond garbage tier
Aside from 1-2-Switch, what about the games did you not like?

I'm gonna predict about 40 mil. Somewhere in between N64 and SNES seems about right.

...

VR's not gonna take off; it's still too early for that type of technology to be taken seriously. It's getting there, but not for another 10 years.

this VR is still complete garbage. This is perhaps the only thing Miyamoto is still right about.

He's right in some sense, complex AI may require ridiculous amount of calculations, that's more related to the processor, and processors in modern games are almost on fire because of their limitations.

...

>the ps3 and xbox360 sold a wiiu less than the wii
Really makes you think

>Sony would ruin it.
How?

Sony has no say on the content/quality of 3rd party games.

Unless Nintendo decides to sell a hardcore porn game(my dream), sony won't interfere in any way.

>exclude their handheld consoles
>all Nintendo games sell less each generation!
Reaaally makes you think

You shouldn't exist anymore!

tell me about it

It was all downhill after the SNES peaked.

N64 was shit compared to the PS.
GCN was shit compared to the PS2.
Wii was a game console for your grandparents, not you.
Wii U is just for never say die Nintendrones.

Nintendo should just stick to mobile gaming.

Handheld games and console games shouldn't be on the same system. This will just confuse the devs.

No

They have to do more than a gimmick less console, they actually have to deliver on their first party IPs which is something else they haven't been doing, but at the sane time, releasing a new game for every IP every gen risks over-serialisation and stagnation, something we've seen happen to CoD, AssCreed and numerous other franchises, and even Nintendo's own IPs.

Actually AI is probably better done on the GPU than on CPU
