Nintendo Wii U = Sega Saturn
Nintendo Switch = Sega Dreamcast
They've learned nothing.
It's over.

I for one have zero issues with Nintendo going third party and making their full history of games easily accessible on various superior platforms such as steam.
So as far as i'm concerned the best thing that could happen to the switch would be for ut to fail, which it probably will.
>They've learned nothing.
How so?
FPBP
I want sunshine on PC
This
If it succeeds, fine
If it fails, fine
>how so?
They have failed to get out of this rut they have been in since the 64 era where they don't provide a console that 3rd party devs want to work with
Just emulate it.
Now tell us about every other time you called the death of Nintendo.
But they are working with it.
This so much.
Make the whole catalog abailable on XBL, PSN, and Steam.
The switch is just holding more players back from being able to play great nintendo games.
But the Dreamcast was a solid console. Sega only went third party after it because they had literally no margin of error after the Saturn.
Nintendo still has a good chunk of their Wii and DS money, so they should survive this gen as long as the Switch isn't a complete flop.
Just like with the Wii U :)
I'm a Nintendo fan, but come on. The system will have to sell if Nintendo wants to have third-party releases beyond Christmas.
>But they are working with it.
No they're not.
They are announcong a last last gen console when the PS4 pro just came out and the Neo is about to come out.
And what's the best they can get? Skyrim? What about other Bethesda games like fallout 4 and Doom 4? They can't even get Skyrim remastered.
Publishers will avoid this thing like the plague. Not having COd, Battlefield, and GTA is a death sentence.
Meant to reply to .
>But the Dreamcast was a solid console.
I fucking hate this meme so much.
t. DREAMCAST OWNDER
don't insult the saturn and dreamcast like that. saturn had a shit ton of games and dreamcast had an excellent launch lineup
i dont think you comprehend how much money Nintendo has
>It's a "it's underpowered so it will fail" episode.
Tell me more about how that killed the sales for the Wii.
The dreamcast was shit and had next to no quality games on it which ended up killing sega from the console buisness.
It has since found use as a decent modding console, but even there the original xbox is better.
Stop this fake dreamcast meme where we pretend it was anything but what it really was: a failure.
The wii was sold as a gimmick console.
That won't work twice. And it hasn't.
See: The Wii U.
>don't insult the saturn and dreamcast like that. saturn had a shit ton of games
Name me 5 must play games the saturn had that i couldn't play elsewhere
And the DS vs. the PSP. And the 3DS vs. the Vita.
Maybe Switch will catch on. Maybe it will be a commercial failure. Either way it looks awesome. And I'll be bummed if Nintendo stops making hardware because this pathetic under-powered x86 arms race between PS4/One/Pro/Scorpio fucking blows.
That's just one of many things wrong with it though
>That won't work twice.
Except it already did. Dual screen gimmick beat the more powerful PSP. Stereoscopic 3D Gimmick beat the Vita.
>PSVR Gimmick beat the Xbox One
>i dont think you comprehend how much money Nintendo has
I don't think you comprehend how buisnesses work.
You don't just keep throwing away money because you have it.
The Wii was also a budget price at $250 next to the $600 PS3
The Switch is MORE EXPENSIVE than PS4 bundles that actually include a few games.
It's like they *want* it to fail.
Sony giving up on the Vita isn't the same thing as the 3DS killing it.
You seem to forget Nintendo had to desperately cut the price of the 3DS dramatically because nobody was buying it.
I love when people use the wii U as a failure because of its content
It was partially that, but they also literally didnt market it.
The switch will fail.
Nintendo will divert to the mobile market and 3rs party console market.
While it wasn't the best console, it was ahead of the game when it came to online play, controller design (it was ugly, but the basic layout is still in use today), and performance. The Switch brings nothing new to consoles except portability at the cost of performance.
This is just saying that its the right console at the wrong time, so buy it OP.
3DS beat Vita because it had MH, Pokemon and that's it.
Wii U and later the switch won't have as many alluring games like PS4.
"Buried in reams of financial data is the revelation that Nintendo have 812.8 billion Yen (£6.7/$10.5 billion) in the bank – enough for it to take a 20 billion Yen loss (£163/$257 million) every year until 2052"
>The dreamcast was shit and had next to no quality games on it
wow, so I guess pic related was all those no games I was playing and thoroughly enjoyed on the dreamcast
>Dreamcast
>good controller design
Pfffffffffhahahahahahaha
Nintendo being bought out by either Sony, Microsoft or Steam or simply whoring their software out to all 3 would be the single greatest thing that could happen to the game industry.
You guys were saying Wii U was Nintendo's Dreamcast, now Switch is. Waiting for the next platform to be called Dreamcast as well.
>sonic adventure
Onw of yhe most overrated games Iv'e ever played.
And I have all the emblems. In both games.
They can probably suffer a few more bombs before they're forced out
If they were smart though they'd go 3rd party when they're still relevant. If they go 3rd party 10 years from now after their core demo has dwindled down to less than 10 million diehards, they'll do far worse as a third party when kids won't even know who Mario is anymore
>basic layout is used today
>today
>no triggers
>VISUAL MEMORY UNIT cards
>one analog stick
>no rumble
>shaped like a fucked up square
>today
holy fucking shit dude what planet are you from?
the dreamcast controller was objectively one of the worst controllers ever invented and easily one of the reasons (along with the failure of the saturn) that the console failed.
We've been over this a trillion times. Nintendo doesn't want to release a standard powerful system with no gimmick, just to keep up with Sony and Microsoft. The last time they did that, they failed. >See: Gamecube
And the reason for that is that Nintendo is a video game company. Microsoft is a software juggernaut, and Sony is an Electronics Powerhouse. They can't afford to try to compete directly with Sony and Microsoft because they can afford to sell their consoles at a loss just to undercut Nintendo, because they can make it up in other areas/divisions (at least Sony used to be able to do that, not sure now, since they aren't doing so well in anything other than Playstation). Nintendo only makes video games, if their systems/games aren't selling, it hurts them a lot more than it does Sony or Microsoft.
The solution? Try to be different and win on their own merits of fun, while keeping costs low, instead of putting out a powerful machine that Sony and Microsoft will undercut, and already have a head start in, because people only see Nintendo as the "babby" company.
The wii u was an objective failure.
The switch probably will be as well.
That doesn't mean nintendo will stop trying, but every time they fail, it becomes more likely they just give up and go third party.
Im pretty sure the adventure games arent overrated and are actually regularly shat on like the rest of the sonic franchise after sonic 3.
Nintendo won't go software only because of financial losses- they can eat losses for a long ass time with their warchest.
If Nintendo goes software only, it'll be because of pressure from their stockholders. If the Switch is a bomb there will be tremendous pressure for them to ditch making consoles themselves and it very well might happen.
I wouldn't be sad about it though- Nintendo isn't Konami; if they drop consoles we may see something like the Virtual Console for PC or mobile and with Nintendo's catalog that'd be fucking amazing.
Nintendo won't "die", they'll just change, that's all.
Sure as fuck didn't have anything good enough to purchase.
>We've been over this a trillion times. Nintendo doesn't want to release a standard powerful system with no gimmick, just to keep up with Sony and Microsoft. The last time they did that, they failed. >See: Gamecube
You have no idea what you'r talking about. So stop pretending.
Nintendo cutting costs and still refusing to go with standard DVD or even CD as a media source is a collosal attributed to why it failed to be competitive.
>20 billion Yen loss (£163/$257 million) every year
250 million isn't a lot when your operating expenses are 2-3 billion
Plus their stock prices would tank the longer they stay in the red which would severely decrease the value of their assets
If Nintendo goes software only it's over.
Every single "quality" Nintendo game you know from the past will be gone for good. They'll never make anything remotely good again.
>Sony makes money by selling televisions and making shitty Spider-Man movies and Seth Rogen comedies
>Microsoft makes money by selling business enterprise software like SQL Server and with it's burgeoning cloud services business
>Valve makes money by profiting off of kids who want gun skins but don't know about the pitfalls of gambling yet
>Nintendo makes money by making and selling fucking excellent games
A purchase by any of those would be the darkest of all time lines
>Kids born in 2000 trying to talk shit about the Dreamcast
I realized Sup Forums is now filled with faggots like you.
Yeah, Nintendo sure hasn't been here before.
Oops.
>le they can just keep bleeding money meme
ITT: lineral arts majors
Dreamcast was dope. crazy taxi, shenmue, tokyo Xtreme racer, jet set radio etc
...
They've had many more successes than failures.
>>Kids born in 2000 trying to talk shit about the Dreamcast
I was born in 90.
I'm probably older than every one here.
The genesis is my first and favorite console and i will take a pic with a timestamp if you want to prove it.
The dreamcast IS FUCKING SHIT.
...
radiant silvergun
gunbird
battle garegga
panzer dragoon
burning rangers
This. Everyone needs to just stop buying nintendo so they can go third party already
>>Sony makes money by selling televisions
No they don't. Sony makes money by selling loans.
The TV division is actually so insignificant that they're apparently about to sell it.
>le talking out of his ass man
They havent been bleeding money. Their stocks have increased in the last 5 years
?
How is being in the red 2 non-consecutive years the same as being in the red until 2052?
>They've had many more successes than failures.
Again, thats not how buisness works.
You work one year at a time, and if your next year is worse than yoir last, that's a financial failure.
they gave up because 3ds killed it user
Not if you've, overall, been making money throughout many years.
Funny how the GC and GBA were Nintendo's worst selling console and handheld (until the Wii U and 3DS anyway)
Could it be that people are only willing to spend so much for toys?
>You get to play Mario or Zelda or Metroid or F-Zero or whatever fucking Nintendo game you like on an actually good console instead of a fucking Fisher Price toy with $80 controllers
>Nintendo gets the dick aggressively and profusely pounded into their anus by either Sony, Microsoft, Steam or a triple gangbang any time they focus on doing anything except making games and trying to get back into hardware
Yeah real fucking dark timeline retard.
I cannot fucking WAIT to buy Super Mario Universe on PlayStation 5 with a digital download for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 4K Remastered Edition.
THANK YOU. I've been saying this shit for years, and people still don't get it.
>Nintendo cutting costs and still refusing to go with standard DVD or even CD as a media source is a collosal attributed to why it failed to be competitive
Except that was only a small part of the reason. 3rd party devs still made things for the Gamecube with no major hiccups accept for maybe having to lower their sound quality. Nintendo's reputation of being the "kiddie" system was the major thing that hurt them at the time of competing with the XBOX and the PS2. That and They marketed the Gamecube in the west about as well as the WiiU, which was not at all.
>Not if you've, overall, been making money throughout many years.
You drop your ineffective divisions.
They make money overall.
The console division loses money.
Conslusion: drop the console division, make more overall money.
That'll never happen, because Nintendo can't make those types of games, they don't have the teams. Their business is not set up for that.
If you try to force it on them, you are gonna get real shit games.
Yeah. Going third party is the best thing that could happen to Nintendo. It worked well for Sega after all...
Going third party would turn Nintendo into a company that releases a Mario game every other year and they're all horrible.
Wrong once again.
Games like star wars battlefront 2 just as an example literally needed more disc space for texture loading purposes.
It killed the ability for many games to run on the system.
>The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 4K Remastered Edition
Happiness doesn't come at the end of yet another resolution bump. Sorry to break it to you. You'll be bitching about games not being 8K soon enough.
Sega's doing pretty good. Yakuza, miku, puyo and all of fatlus. Much better than the current state of nutendo.
Sega was forced into it because they were bankrupt
If Nintendo makes a strategic entry into 3rd partydom, they could easily come out winning. It's actually already begun. Their mobile games are part of their exit strategy if you haven't noticed.
You've successfully swallowed the "resolution and graphics" meme.
As games get better graphics, they get worse.
>Yeah. Going third party is the best thing that could happen to Nintendo. It worked well for Sega after all...
Newsflash: sega is run by idiots
More news at 11
>Sega's doing pretty good. Yakuza, miku, puyo and all of fatlus. Much better than the current state of nutendo.
Sega's worth 4 billion, Nintendo's worth 18.
Thats Pretty funny considering Breath of the Wild is the ugliest zelda game ever
>Being this fucking clueless
My sides
I'd be perfectly happy with 1080p
I'm playing TPHD on my Wii U right now and it's amazing what a difference it makes, and sad that BotW's "definitive edition" won't even be 1080p on brand new 2017 hardware.
Objectively wrong.
This. Sonic Adventure is the quintessential nostalgia game. Went back to play it a few months ago and goddamn was it horrible in every which way I can think of.
It didn't take long to go full /biz/-retard, hahahaha
The classic xbone controller was just as bad and clunky, yet it sold well. The point is that the basic layout (stick top left, d-pad bot left, buttons top-right, and yes it hard triggers) was good enough to be recycled and used to this day.
You're a retard.
Fucking this! I pray to god that Nintendo finally dies
I already own a ps4, although legit haven't used it since my pc was fixed, but I know I'm going to buy it just for legend of Zelda. I'm sure there will be other people like me out there.
>muh false equivalence
The reason Sega left the hardware race was because they wasted too much money on R&D, producing many vaporwares in addition to the consoles they actually released. Nintendo is not in such a situation yet.
Battlefront was literally the only game that listed that as the reason. Also, didn't somebody debunk that years ago on just the grounds of the devs just being to lazy to bother compressing, and that Nintendo's online options at the time were piss poor.
Also Sega's balance sheet is over 40% leveraged. Nintendo has nearly zero debt.
I love when kids on Sup Forums try to talk business to justify what their favorite game company is.
KEK
If nintendo goes 3rd party, very good chance they'll still be console exclusive.
Not saying they should. I just don't see it happening.
If they release PC games, it'll be some F2P or subscription shit, kind like they're doing on mobile.
>corporation A has X money, corporation B has Y money
Why should I care? I want games. SEGA gives me games, nutendo gives me the same rehashed kiddy garbage since the 80s.
Cool.
Wake me up when Nintendo posts five consecutive years of losses. Then we'll talk.
Sega actually did a lot of things right with the Dreamcast. The problem was that it was too little, too late. Their finances were a mess due to all their past fuckups and the Saturn's failure left them without the kind of brand power they needed to compete with the PS2.
What games you playing from Sega?
>I want sunshine on PC
it's already playable on there at 4K60FPS
Nintendo has $10bil of assets, and has been in business since 1889. They'll be fine. They also have $5bil in other stuff they can sell off before whoring out their IP.
Both of you are wrong.
The real reason why was because LucasArts stopped supporting Nintendo due to Rogue Squandron 3's poor sales
