You can't fix was it long dead
Add more jump scares to make the games scarier
Every night, huh? I mean, I won't complain, but shit's stagnating cause it's the same shit every night.
>Limit Jump scares for actually pivotal moments
>Make a world I wanna explore
>Make the horror the result of my actions (that could be avoided) and not the result of chance
>Do not make horror the intended goal
Chase sequences are legitimately scary.
More jump scares
More "innocent looking thing is actually evil"
More cheap 5 dollar shit, I mean next big hit
>but muh RE7!
five nights at freddies
Invent a heart rate monitor to tie it in with jump scares. The monsters can spook you to see where you are hiding by making your heart beat faster.
By not playing SH4 to start.
By paying attention to what REmake did and doing that.
Nothing to fix when the genre already reached perfection before.
Have a surreal game where something like a big white block of text can appear before you and it just says: DON'T TURN AROUND
then you hear footsteps behind you
That's actually a thing, you know.

By realising that horror doesn't need to have jumpscares or that darkness isn't scary.
So like superhot but scary?
That's actually retarded
They were on the right track with P. T.
It's just an excuse to start an /x/ thread. Sage and report.
Why more first person games with jump scares of course.
Exactly...Why can't you guys just call it Silent Hills?
Hopefully Death Stranding will maintain some of that vibe.
>Talkina about videogame genres in a videogame forum isn't allowed anymore
What?
People meme about 'jump scares not being TRUE scary' but they're really important in setting up people to be anxious.
You have to have some sort of trigger or object associated with the jumpscare. Then, whenever the player is presented with it, they'll start to feel incredibly anxious waiting for it to happen, and that's when you start switching it out for Trigger #2. Etc.
Renew Silent Hills
>Shaye Saint John
is Detention any good? I really dig the oriental style of horror.
It has to be more existential horror. The setting is more important than the Scare. That's what Silent HIll and the first two Resident Evil Games GOT that has been forgotten with all the stressing on action game shit.
Until Dawn is one of the best horror games/movies on the medium.
More like it would be a great start.
Only if japs do it, americans just can't into horror
Been wondering the same thing myself. I guess nobody on Sup Forums has played it.
Literally shit-taste niggers
I must be autistic because it feels like something about that picture is slightly off.
Like the picture of that dude eating the donut
just Asians man, they are weird to look at
I liked it. It's fairly short (about 3-4 hours) and not that scary overall, but story and atmosphere is pretty good and unique.
Honestly I don't know
As much as I love horror and horror games I feel like the genre peaked with silent hill 3
Kill the AAA industry .
Big budget is counter intuitive to making a proper horror game .
>That scary monster cost a lot of money to model and program , it needs to be clearly seen on the screen
Since AAA is to big to fail
>the big company makes a smaller less funded subsidiary focused on horror games staffed with passionate individuals insted of corporate executives
Jumpscares should be there if you do something absolutely fucking retarded like run straight up to the monster or just as a loss state if you fuck up.
I like horror best when its stuff that isn't actually scary, just so strange it kind of fucks you up. Like if it were in any other context it would look sorta fucking goofy. The fact that you don't know what the fuck it is and what it wants is pretty fucking spooky.
How is silent hills shit taste when it comes to horror?
Explain yourself hipster.
>liking jumpscares the game
Silent Hill 1 and 2 were better cause they were scary without VR and jumpscares meme.
>find passionate people
>give them less funds
I N D U S T R Y G E N I U S
>Conveniently ignoring the other 99% of the teaser that is atmosphere.
Got to make something not scary into something that is scary. That requires creativity, which is something that adds risk to the development, and so people end up adding cheap scares instead of creative ones.
Jumpscares should be used very sparingly, the fear of a jumpscare is better for the horror aspect than the actual jumpscare itself. You just have to keep changing up what is actually creating the fear of the jumpscare so it doesn't get stale.
>like two fucking jumpscares the entire time.
Jesus christ you're a fucking pansy.
VR fixes it by allowing games to actually be scary
people will legitimately get PTSD and shit from playing VR horror games
Like that?
youtube.com
Yes
Those passionate about it, Though adversity they will find better ways to do it cheap and better for it
>viewing enemies from distant, usually fixed, camera angles is in any way scary
I mean, I played some of these games when they came out, and there was nothing scary about them then, and there still certainly isn't now.
"Muh-muh-muh tension and limited resources, you can't kill everyone!" doesn't hold up either when the alternative is to run past all the enemies and watch them flaccidly grab at you like fuckin' goobers.
I always want to tell people to stop positing the same goddamn "too many jumpscares = not horror" opinion that we've all heard a million times, but then I realize that making a jumpscare fest is more financially secure than making an effective horror game.
Kill me. Scare compilations killed this genre.
So you completely missed the psychological aspects of the red light, bathroom, halls and the ending?
Enough buzzwords friendo
>I like horror best when its stuff that isn't actually scary, just so strange it kind of fucks you up. Like if it were in any other context it would look sorta fucking goofy. The fact that you don't know what the fuck it is and what it wants is pretty fucking spooky.
hail brother
Kid, nothing ever gets better by throwing less money at it.
people who post on Sup Forums now are honestly stupid as fuck. people who are teens now are way fucking dumber than the previous generation. it really shows.
>I like horror best when its stuff that isn't actually scary, just so strange it kind of fucks you up.
That's why I prefer V/H/S over any horror movie.
are you fags excited about daymare
>inb4 some asshole goes on about how zombies aren't scary yadda yadda
>read a bunch of shit that says Rosemary's Baby is the scariest movie of all time
>respected film critics echo this opinion
>watch it one day
>2 and a half hours of nothing to get to a shot where Rosemary looks at the baby (offscreen) with a horrified expression on her face, caues it's a demon baby!!! SCARIEST THING OF ALL TIME
you just don't understand true horror
>tfw to intelligent for horror games
There are a few games (Silent Hill, System Shock, Fatal Frame and others I can't bother to forget) that manage to make me feel unnerved at best but never truly scared.
How do I make myself more susceptible to horror games?
A horror game really shouldn't have the huge budget of a giant AAA game project. Smaller scale is much better for horror because horror is a niche genre. You won't make massive returns on it.
I ain't clicking that shit
Horror games are boring.
I liked survival horror because they were mechanically engaging games and action horror because they're plain fun.
Horror for the sake of horror is shit.
Horroe genre died when they turn in shoot-every-zombie.
No
Just leave Silent Hill the fuck alone. Let the franchise get the rest it fucking deserves.
A lot of it is your attitude.
Sounds gay as fuck but horror doesn't affect some people as much as others, so you might just have to try and meet the games halfway. Get yourself in the mood. Shut the lights off, turn your phone off.
I have a rule that I will never play a horror game before 6 PM, so it's either already dark or around sunset.
watch it to understand the feeling a true horror game should convey
today, I will remind them
after playing video games for so many years, i just don't understand what i could possibly be excited about after seeing that screenshot.
looks like gameplay/design from 10 other things, mashed together, no-name studio logo in the corner: check.
gaming needs a lot less of this and a lot more super noby noby boy and snipperclips
Has there ever been a horror game that took place during a bright and sunny day?
but user!
I'm scared
I just miss gameplay in horror games. I don't mind things like SOMA in limited quantities, but it feels like that's all that happens in horror anymore. There's zero imagination, no one is willing to take a risk. Amnesia was never scary, and I hate that it's somehow become the pinnacle of horror gaming. It's not the only way to do it, but resource management ala RE and Silent Hill is incredibly effective. I should be dreading going into a room because of how fucked the character could be when he enters it (because he could die or be injured), and because of how fucked I could be when I enter it (because of losing resources or progress). Resource management makes you feel the same tension your character should be feeling. If I can just restart with no issues after dying, then there's nothing to really fear.
it's from the indie devs who were doing REmake 2 before capcom gave them a C&D order, you living turd
they reused the assets to create a fun faux-resident evil before the series turned to garbage
Can we post more cool short horror stuff?
You are not too intelligent for horror games. Have some humility, you sound extremely full of yourself.
>Game is close to being perfect
>Had all the love from the devs put into it
It's sad how this happens less and less often.
Anyone play this? Made my ass clench a few times.
>but never truly scared.
there's one every thread
you are so full of shit
I downloaded it but never got around to playing it.
When the FUCK is the remake coming out?
>it's from the indie devs who were doing REmake 2 before capcom gave them a C&D order, you living turd
.............and?
resident evil series was never good except for 4, by the way. console garbage.
anyone got a gif of the part where that guy was spinning on his forehead?
I do play them in the dark, but there's only so much I can do to immerse myself and ultimately the I know that the game is just a game.
>there's one every thread
Yes, it's a big board with a massive population so there's bound to be repeating personalities.
>you are so full of shit
Why?
fag

Should I be excited?
I know it's basically a proof of concept trailer and shows nothing, but it's always nice to see somebody tackle Lovecraft seriously.
Voice acting seems a little overacted.
didn't Amnesia get rid of any consumables you used when you restart at a checkpoint? So in a sense it's even worse than Silent Hill because in Silent Hill a save point was basically a saved state to return to.
OOOOOOH THEY RELEASED A TRAILER! Thanks user!
>Should I be excited?
I sort of am
can't help myself
it seems like they're taking it seriously enough that it won't be stupid
>tackle lovecraft seriously
>yet another property about a lovecraft work that was not in his top 30 stories and was mostly fleshed out after his death by august derleth and others
why would you ever get excited about a video game before it comes out please tell me
>that non-horror game that scares you more than an actual horror game
What's her name, Sup Forums?
Looks like the same problem the original Call of Cthulhu videogame had - way too pulpy for something inspired by an author who absolutely hated pulp novels.
"The official videogame" doesn't inspire much confidence either.
Wasn't the remake vr bullshit?
I've seen that one! Even though I can't help thinking it's set up, it send a chill down my spine everytime
have another one, friendo
youtube.com
Because even the remote possibility of a good Lovecraft game coming out is better than nothing.
esoteric order of dagon member detected
What? no it's not. how does it matter whatsoever?
if you are actually a fan of lovecraft then you would clearly understand that the feelings his stories are meant to inspire cannot be evoked by a fucking video game.
this one fake?
Lone Survivor was p good
I liked Consuming Shadow
That's the stupidest fucking thing I've watched all day.
I thought it was decent until the end.
