Imagine seeing Horizon running in glorious 4k on the Ps4 pro while Nintendo fanboys enjoy a last gen game at 720p.
All of Sony's first party studios seem to be closing (Guerrilla Cambridge after RIGS failed, Evolution studios after Driveclub failed, Sony Liverpool after Wipeout) Guerilla games may not survive a bad launch desu.
Michael White
No. Seeing as it is a third person Far cry primal and all.
Blake Rogers
The Zelda brand is so successful that it holds with it the power to build tolerance in critics. ZELDA games can make a lot more miss-steps without being put down. Critics love Zelda. Why? They just love Zelda. Here are some MC scores to put it in perspective
Skyward Sword: 93 Twilight Princess (GCN): 96 Wind Waker (GCN): 96 Shadow of the Colossus: 91
So even if Horizon is more than just a third person Far Cry slog, which every seriously doubts at this point, it has to be pretty much perfect to outsell or outreview BotW.
Joseph Hill
Why do people keep comparing the two? They're very different games.
Henry Thomas
stupid toddlers trying to shitpost like always.

B-Because SONY.

Has Guerilla Games ever even made a good game?
The only games I can think of that they made are the Killzone Quadrilogy, which is dogshit.

Just make good shit, faggots.

Rogue Galaxy was Dark Cloud 3
Carson Robinson
If we're talking franchise-killers...
Jackson Lewis
franchise killers use that to be hype. Some do become pretty good games. Both Dark Cloud 1 & 2 are classics and have a lot of nice elements to their gameplay.
John Williams
This. Just look at the countless Halo-killers. Ironically, the thing that killed Halo was Halo itself.
Sebastian Bennett
Sony shit posters being their usual selves.
Caleb Thompson
Just think, even though Sony DESTROYED Nintendo in terms of consoles sold, they have been perpetually been blown the FUCK out in the iconic franchises front. Even the fucking Xbox has more iconic franchises people care about than on the PlayStations, then again three does beat two.
Sony is stuck being a soulless corporate entity whose sole existence is number crunching. Yet despite their best efforts, they will never have any games that will be remembered years down the line.
Christian Wright
>The handheld games were fun. Sony recently closed down that part of the Guerilla.
Bravo Sony Bravo

Don't you know? Iconic franchises are just rehashes.

I am sure people play zelda games because the game being zelda games and not because of muh gameplay graffix and such.
Zelda could be released as moba tomorrow and people will follow. Honestly i am not exactly sure what is the appeal. As long as people happy playing the game i cant give any rat ass though. t.pckek
James Garcia
That's the thing; CoD didn't 'actively' tries to kill anything, they just do their own shit and mowed down anything on its path.
Chase Bell
Man, PSM was such a great magazine. This picture of Raziel they used for their Soul Reaver cover story sold me on the game alone.

>Why Come out around the same time, both feature open world adventure systems and while the comparisons predominantly stop there as far as objective comparisons go, people here always run wild.

Nintendo fans are too busy losing their minds over Zelda to give a shit about Horizon, meanwhile PS4 cockriders can't just ignore Zelda and have to try to make their game look better by comparing them (even though it just ends up making Horizon look worse because Zelda has 10/10 gameplay)
Jackson Kelly
You're not wrong. With the exception of the CDi games I can't think of any Zelda games that I didn't enjoy, and I'd have to attribute that to how influential the characters and format were to me as a kid. I'd say that it's the developers, but Capcom made three of the best Zeldas, so that wouldn't be a fair assessment.
Jeremiah Butler

Jacob Rodriguez
Cities: Skylines made the killing blow.

>Why do people keep comparing the two?
fucking this. I have never seen Guerrilla Games advertise the game as some sort of "zelda killer". they arent even remotely the same game so the comparison doesnt make any fucking sense.
Matthew Thompson
>albw >bad why do people ignore the zelda cycle when considering handhelds?
Xavier Thomas
>dark cloud
I've never fucking understood why people liked these games
The first was fucking garbage, never got past the first town, tried the second for a bit once too, seemed to improve but i didn't like the art style
Just not my series I guess
Horizon looks neat but nothing will ever be a Zelda killer
Luke Reyes
Not going to happen. Sony and it's exclusives couldn't hope to hold a candle to Zelda.
Benjamin Evans
>the zelda cycle Now you have me thinking about Cosmo again and I'm gettin' sad. Don't do this to me, user.
Brayden Powell
Because the Zelda Cycle has only ever applied to the 3D console games. Nobody ever thought Zelda 2 was better than Zelda 1 or the entries that came out after it. When normies here the name "Legend of Zelda" they aren't thinking of the 2D entries.
Gabriel Stewart
This nigga knows his stuff.
Liberation was hard as fuck but satisfying when you succeed
Mercenary had one the best Single Player Campaign I've played in any FPS.
Hudson Perez
Shitposting aside, there is truth to what you're saying. Hell, even Sony has started to realize this as of late with them trying to revive literally everything but the kitchen sink.
But mascots/IP's are really powerful, and the fact that they only now realize this was their biggest mistake.
Thomas Cruz
This. A lot of their exclusive characters don't have much depth to them, which makes me not care very much. Notice I didn't say ALL, sonyponies, but Most
Julian Hill
>Literal shit with Zelda slapped on will sell >Zelda released as MOBA will sell like hotcakes
This meme needs to stop, it's just people showing off their buyers remorse. They all know that graphics aren't everything, but they need to use something to justify what they bought. Boo hoo
Daniel Cruz
literally who?
Aaron Reed
>buying remorse What should i feel remorse of to? Zelda is brand power. The feeling that it is Zelda game I am currently playing is part of the experience. And that's not a bad thing. If anyone want to make zelda killer they need to find a way how to "emulate" or slowly build that charm. God, Sup Forums tend to forget that games is all about experience and not hard assessed numbers.
Camden Turner
The only thing that can kill a good franchise is itself, this is proven time and time again when only mistakes by a game's own developer end up being its downfall.
Ryan Smith
>implying it'll sell more than BotW >implying I dont have a Wii U and PS4 and wont get both
Henry Edwards
>both are open world games with an emphasis on the wild >both characters use a bow and arrows >those machine things on Zero Dawn are kind of similar to the ones on BotW >both come out around the same time
The only real bad game in the 3D zelda series was SS. And despite being memorable, SotC is flawed because of its concept (a completely empty world and just a boss rush) much like Metroid 2 with its metroid hunt dictating the pace of the game. Also SotC isn't as polished as any zelda game.
Ian Anderson
Man, I used to play the shit out of Dark Cloud demo that came with PS2. Is it still worth getting into? I adored the village building.
Kevin Perez
>open world game with bitch who won't shut the fuck up >open world game with faggot who doesn't say anything

It's only funnier in hindsight.
Cooper Gomez
That is some grade A nostalgia, I had that exact issue.
Lincoln Cox
An open world game with a group of faggots that don't shut up is worse imo
Dylan Lopez
Dark Souls is doing what Zelda has been doing for two decades now. Pushing complex 3D design without copy/pasting in the level editor chunks of maps. The Bethesda games for example don't even grasp the complexity of Zelda dungeons, even the worst ones.
The series wouldn't be that worshipped if this was more the norm.
Josiah Moore
>Nintendo fans are too busy losing their minds over Zelda to give a shit about Horizon
Oh please who do you think has been making these Horizon falseflagging bait threads lately? Try going into one and you see it's mostly Zelda fans shitposting
Ryder Williams
Go on yt and see what majority makes horizon vs zelda vids. Its sonyggers. And in gfaqs its the ps4 boards who make such topics.
Blake Moore
yeah. Dark Cloud is one of my favorite games for the PS2. Easily top ten. my nigga

I lost interest around Rouge and the port city. It just got too monotonous to manage my weapon HP, my HP, my Thirst, Fish, Ice, Extra items, Leveling up Weapons, and whatever else.
It was fun early on at least.
Rouge will never have enough porn
Dylan Martin
>SotC is flawed because of its concept Why do you think SotC is a flawed concept? Dev time wasted on adding little skeletons to fight or sidequests to slog through would not have helped the game. There's a solid reason the game has absolutely nothing in its world but the colossi. There's an important effect that riding out to each fight gives. Your hateful brain goes to work: "This is like Zelda, I'm on a horse and I go to fight big monsters... but where are the things in-between? I don't GET it! It's laziness. It... It's... I hate it!" Maybe you read some review that suggests that the world exists to solidify the colossi as real inhabitants, to cleanse the player's palette, to reinforce the theme, to train the player in using the horse, to create suspense and tension and something called atmosphere. You sit there thinking, "Was there something I didn't get about the game? But it's not like Zelda... But it is... No. It's just pretentious. It's empty and I hate it. Zelda is much better. There's side quests in Zelda."
Listen to yourself-- "Just a Boss Rush". This is such a ridiculous criticism. "Street Fighter 2, it's okay, but it's nothing but fighting people."
Bentley Scott
I don't know about you guys but despite being multiplat I always considered stuff like metal gear and dark souls to be sony icons
Owen White
I stroke nerve obviously. See, I like the game, and I find it pretty unique, but I wouldn't say it's one of the best games ever, once again because it is all in all, just a boss rush. Each colossus has a gimmick and that's pretty much all. SotC never really build on its gameplay, but put as many variations the devs could think of on the same concept (climbing, killing). Pretty much half of the colossi use a gameplay mechanics you use only once. Swimming for the eel, shooting behind you on your horse with the snake, using a torch so the dog fears you. And because gimmicks only work once. You learn pretty much nothing in the game besides gauging your climbing meter.
On a more personal note:
SotC doesn't encourage exploration because of the colossi you need to beat in the right order, and it ends up in following the sword's light. Time didn't spare it, and what was empty valleys are now empty ugly valleys. The 2 last colossi are quite tedious and ternished the my overall enjoyment of the game.
Luke Hughes
>multiplats >sony icons
Kayden Butler
Wouldn't HzD be closer to open world monster hunter rather of zelda?
Jesus, I want an open world monster hunter.
Tyler Gray
>Sony Liverpool after Wipeout Wipeout didn't even fail, Sony just shut them down for no fucking reason.
Adam Ward
Both infamous and prototype were complete shit.
Aaron Myers
How do you live with such shit taste?
Cameron White
It figures that all of Sony's "icons" are games that are much better on non-Sony platforms.
Camden Jones
Had Metroid prime had a good multiplayer and online it probably would have beat out Halo.
The odd thing about Prime is that it wasin't even trying to compete and the fucking media kept making that comparison.
Kinda like all these retards are now. >HAS A SIMILARITY TO A WIDELY POPULAR SERIES PREVIOUS GAME ? KILLER.
Quit being fucking played by the media and just play the games you like. fuck anybody that says otherwise.
Lincoln Rogers
>Anything being a Zelda killer
Cameron Flores
>stuck being a souless corporate entitity whose soul extistence is number crunching All companies are like that >never have any games remembered Last of us, uncharted 4 and bloodborne still triggers Sup Forums. I cant remember the last time microsoft or nintendo came out with anything memorable.
Noah Roberts
>Had Metroid prime had a good multiplayer and online it probably would have beat out Halo. Metroid Prime's controls are completely incompatible with the idea of competitive multiplayer. Metroid Prime isn't a First Person Shooter so much as its a First Person Action Platformer.
Ian Ward
Nothing will kill Zelda, like Mario the games exist in their own fanboy universe and are virtually impervious to major criticism.
Matthew Wilson
Rogue Galaxy was so fucking great. The ps2 jrpg era was the best of all jrpg eras.
Liam Ortiz
>SotC never really build on its gameplay I want to disagree with this. I feel the progression the game takes with its battles are well chosen and make a good curve and do build on themselves >Pretty much half of the colossi use a gameplay mechanics you use only once. Absolutely not. This is something you're definitely wrong about and I could go through each colossi about it if you did. >Swimming for the eel You learn to swim in #4. There swimming is not a crucial element for winning, the water is there to break your fall. You fight the Eel #7. #12 heavily involves swimming. >shooting behind you on your horse with the snake "Shooting behind you on your horse" is not a "mechanic". Shooting behind you on your horse is the "a-ha" moment. It's the solution you arrive at with the knowledge that you can shoot while riding Agro. "Shooting on your horse" is a mechanic. It is used in #10 and #13. The player inevitably tries horseback archery in any of the segments they are on the horse because of the knowledge that they can "use" their sword on a horse, so why not the bow? They try it, and oh, it's in their memory. It's a natural feeling. >using a torch so the dog fears you You learn to manipulate colossi into doing things with #3 and it is used on #4, #6, #9, before this #11 fight. Half the colossi require some element on manipulating their movement or tricking them to do something. #11 requires you to pick up the torch, and the game takes a leap of faith here in assuming that the player knows to pick things up (fruit, tails) with the action button. Not very elegant, but thinking of that as an individual mechanic is narrow. It's something scripty and cinematic to one-off place something like that, but it uses mechanics (picking up objects) that is everywhere in the world, but it is optional. I will say here that the hints Dormin gives are really bad. This fight could have been better.
Logan Sanders
>Critics love Zelda. Why?
Because historically it was always the vanguard of gaming and it took til the mid '00s for it to stagnate and for everything else to catch up.
Logan Harris
>SotC doesn't encourage exploration Are you complaining about an empty game not encouraging exploration? An empty world. Your words. Why should it encourage exploration? There's a reason why fruit (useless) are scattered around but there's a lizard at every shrine. >Time didn't spare it, and what was empty valleys are now empty ugly valleys. The pop-in is real bad but the game looks good still. >The 2 last colossi are quite tedious and ternished the my overall enjoyment of the game. 16 is great, only tedious if you're outright bad at the game somehow at that point. 15 blows hard though definitely drags the game down.
SotC has flaws, probably the worse Team Ico game, but it's still far and away better than all the 3D Zeldas. And hey, if it wasn't for it, Nintendo probably would not have considered this direction for BotW that people are celebrating as a renaissance of sorts. Don't hate. Appreciate! Maybe you'll acknowledge SotC a bit better after playing it.
Kevin Lewis
get your head out of your ass and stop feeling so victimized lmao
Landon Peterson
and yet it being JUST in first person warranted it being called a killer.
Point still stands fuck the media and fuck the people that perpetuate it on this site.
Hudson Johnson
>The series wouldn't be that worshipped if this was more the norm.
This. There's just nothing else that approaches what Zelda really does at its best. Seeing people offer things like Okami as a serious alternative is hilarious, as that's the very best suggestion they have Beyond Good and Evil and Darksiders are much more respectable attempts though, even if they each fail to live up to their ambitions.
