I don't just a sheep
literally pay 0 attention to them
They're neat and a good way of discovering things in the game you might have missed.
Good Achievements: Found this easter egg
Bad Achievements: Collect 1000 pies
This.
Hey fuck you buddy pies are delicious
Only game I have Platinum in is Bloodborne
Keep them for things that are actually achievements.
>Achievement: Started the game
>Achievement: Started the tutorial
>Achievement: Fired your weapon
>Achievement: Completed the tutorial
Go fuck yourself.
All of it's a thinly veiled data mining scam and you all fell for it.
Cared a lot about them when I had a 360 and played an ass load of games just to boost my score.
Now I really don't give a shit.
I just like having a profile with badges. Wished Nintendo would have done something

Yeah. You see? Do you ever wonder why it's like that, with such insipid, oddly easy-to-achieve 'achievements'? Achievements like these tend to take place at key points throughout the game. It is as if they're strategically placed so as to provide companies with precise feedback regarding consumer engagement with their products. They can review the meta data of thousands of idiots, which helps pinpoint areas for adjustment in other titles. And not in a good way, either - their only concern is appealing to as many idiots as possible, which means dumbing shit down more often than not.
When the 360 introduced them, I thought they were a novel thing and were honestly a major factor in me choosing to buy multiplat games on 360 over PS3. These days, I just ignore them. What I really don't understand is why nobody outside Microsoft has an achievement system that awards points to your profile. What I loved about achievements initially was having a single number that you could take way too much pride in. The different tiers of PSN trophies doesn't have that same "kick" and Steam achievements don't have any sort of value attached to them. Did MS somehow trademark Gamerscore points or something?
I'm fucking addicted. Once I start a game (that I like) I need them all. Got 43 platimuns atm
I'll go for them while playing but I won't grind for them or worry too much about missing them.
The pessimist side of me thinks they killed fun things like cheat codes
Love them
Gives a reason to replay the game or play it differently. Theres literally no reason to hate them when their purpose is simple and optional
As soon as I need another player I drop it
>collect 1000 pies
Tell me 8 games that do this
This makes way too much sense. Mind = blown
I get a little too invested in them once I'm done with the base game. I had 75k gamerscore on 360.
They're alright, but I largely ignore them. I did beat REmake in under 3 hours because of its achievements though.
Assassins creed
I'm not really for or against it. I tend to ignore them most of the time, but sometimes there are clever and interesting ones that I might try to get.
its nice addition to a good game.
steam achis are just pure shit
No opinion unless they can't be disabled, then they're shit.
They're all right. Any sane person should just ignore them. I don't, I'm autistic. I was poor as a kid so I always went for 100% in games. I still do that now with achievements. Hate online ones or kill X amount of Y enemy.
I can't wait to attempt to platinum Nioh. I'm anxiously awaiting to see the trophy list.
youtube.com
>sonyggers will never know the glorious rare achievement sound and get it through their dullard skulls how much better achievements are
Sad!
Are you still poor? If not there are too many games out there to justify sinking 100+ hours into a 20-hour game.
Good Ach: Do this crazy X thing to Y enemy
Bad Ach: Complete the game in under 3hrs
So whats your proudest/hardest achievement Sup Forums?
Fuck the feathers
oh i love that sound in ReCore
end game is filled with it,.. damn its good game, why nobody playes it
I'm proud of getting the megaman 10 one for completing the game without taking damage. I'm hardcore as fuck you'll never be on my lvl
Black Ops
i cant beat fucking bloodborne chalice dungeons
with Waste of Skin char.
fuck, i just cant
can anyone help me?
Feathers in Assassin Creed II. Fuck that shit.
Fuck Riddler trophies.
Fuck 100 packages
I did them all in Asylum and City, but there's like a billion in Origins and I refused to do it.
I like them except playing ff8 now and it has "kill 10000 enemies" which is just stupid
Fuck 420 flags.
They are a good addition to gaming. They change nothing about the game other than giving some incentive to challenge yourself or play the game more, and I don't see anything wrong with that.
However, I don't pay much attention to them anymore. I did on the 360 when they were first introduced, but I mainly PC game and Steam just doesn't have a very intriguing achievement system. Nobody on your Steam list gives a shit about your achievements, whereas on the 360 people would definitely scope your profile and see what you've unlocked. Maybe the fad wore off, I don't know. It's still a cool idea, it just needs to be revisited and some changes could be made to make it more interesting.
Multiplayer only achievements are shit though. Unless the game is strictly an online game (something like Rocket League) then it's OK. Otherwise go fuck yourself.
I mostly just grab them if they're not too hard. I only plat easy games or games that I really like. Getting them all in Birth By Sleep was a pain in the ass though.
The only time I pay attention to them is when I'm looking to milk out a bit more gameplay after I've completed the game.
They vary from absolute shit-tier (story chapters, stuff from mindless grinding) to moderately interesting (accomplishing difficult or unique challenges). I don't feel like I've ever seen any achievement set that have wowed me and seemed like really compelling gameplay.
I don't think they've impacted my decision to buy/not buy ever, but they're there and I take what I can get.
Man, I used to be obsessed with getting achievements, i used to game alongside Xbox acheivement guides on my laptop
Games were fun with good gameplay, good story, good characters, and even though they were a chore sometimes, I liked getting achievments.
Now I couldn't care less about achievements, and games are not satisfying me
Shiet
Same, didn't bother with origins cuz it sucked, too many in arkham knight too
>How do you feel about achievements and trophies in games?
Fine as long as they are not completely retarded.
Trophies rewarding the player for playing the story (like in TT games) - retarded.
Trophies that require multiple playthroughs ("Finish game without killing anybody" AND "Finish game killing everybody you see") - retarded.
Trophies that require ungodly amounts of grind ("Get to level 9999" when after finishing game you're 100-something, "Kill 10000 enemies", etc) - retarded.
Trophies that require a bit of extra exploration ("Find X", "Finish optional dungeon", etc) - fine.
Trophies that require skill ("Kill some boss in some non-standard way", "Kill 3 enemies with one shot", etc) - fine.
>What about online achievements?
Should die, especially on platforms that have paid online. Should also be automatically removed from games if the servers go down / active player count falls below some specified threshold.
Alternatively, each online achievement should be also obtainable offline ("Kill 10 enemy players OR kill 50 NPCs").
Lol? One casual playthrough of that game barely requires killing more then a few hundred things, ten thousand is dumb. Square is dumb.
>Trophies rewarding the player for playing the story (like in TT games) - retarded.
I'm going to come to the defense of this one. As a developer or just a fan of the game, it's a good way to track how far people have gotten in the game before losing interest or giving up.
I'm just pointing out that you just corroborated all of this:
I very much resent the disingenuous origin story of the whole achievements thing in general, across all platforms. I believe they were originally conceived primarily for the sake of data mining and they downplayed that to the point that they lied about it by omission IMO. Sometimes this 'feature' can't be turned off, and who the hell knows what they do with all that information, and that raises some moral and ethical concerns in and of itself. But rest assured, someone somewhere is making money off of it.
I'm frankly disgusted there's only one other poster in this entire thread besides me who gives so little as one single fuck about this. All you morons saying what a great addition they are to gaming are, are all a bunch of cucks.
You have been tricked you idiots, duped, swindled, lied to. And you mother fucking faggots don't even god damn care. As a matter of fact, you are glad that it happened. You like it.
