the best game
I still love that game
>and then the Prince did a wall run but jumped in the wrong direction and fell and broke every bone in his body
>nonono that didn't happen
what a game... I still play them from time to time
what happened?
>what happened?
I guess Ubisoft made more money with Assassins Creed
Why do people dislike Warrior within so much?
The whole story arc, combat, boss fight and puzzles was the best in the series.
Even if the prince was super edgy, It's kinda understandable that he is like that. Would also like too add that the music was pretty goat as well.
I wish I had played it after SoT as a kid but when I picked up the Warrior Within Demo the edgyness you describe threw me off. When he said
>you bitch!
It just didn't feel like the comfy SoT prince anymore it seemed like a completely different game so I never even bought it.
I did pick up The Two Thrones later though and there I got some of the SoT feeling back but I am gonna buy WW next sale actually. I wanna know the story and like you say the combat and puzzles have been given much praise
They wanted to show that he was in a dark place in his life and it's understandable that he would be a lot more vulgar and irritable since he couldn't sleep for fear of the Dahaka killing him.
I really enjoyed the change of tone. Something about the gothic setting was really cool
It got 2 pretty good sequels and an ok-ish reboot.
Heard bad things about the movie tie-in on though.
I think it was different for me, remember that I started to play this first when I was younger and later went through the 3 games like 1 year ago.
Haven't tried the Prince of Persia that isn't considered "canon" but some anons have told me that it's really good. youtu.be
Had a bit of a sour taste after completing PoP:TT, really disliked that game and kinda ignored the more newly released PoP after I was done.
It's completely different from the first but it's 100% justified. Running away from the dahaka 24h/7d made the prince edgy af, plus the dark surroundings don't help either, even though they're really well made anyway.
I want this series to be remaked.
They are too good to die in vain
I also like 2008 really
well, then WW changed the tone to edgy metal kids appeal
two thronens tried to reverse it but changed gameplay to some rythm game
then there was one worse than sonic 2006 collect-a-thon
then 2008 happened which was simply mediocre with ending in DLC which never was ported to pc
that is all in a span of 6 years. Basically same thing that happened with AC.
yeah storywise I agree his change in demeanor and tone was justified but I didn't like it as a kid. As I said I will give WW a chance next sale. Will also replay TTT since so many seem to dislike it. I only played it once as a kid but I remember liking it then, not as much as SOT but it wass still enjoyable irrc
They are all pretty good but you can pretty much assume that the later it was released, the less it is. 2008 was pretty good and the last one that came out at the same time as the film, was actually really good for the time it came out in. It had nothing to do with the film, they fucked up by releasing it along side the film.
Two Thrones wasn't good at all.
>Heard bad things about the movie tie-in on though.
I liked it, princess was qt and Jake Gyllenhal played the Prince pretty much like he's in the game, cocky but with a good heart
have there really been no HD remakes?!
I fuckin loathe time travel.
I loved the PoP games honestly but time travel is such a run down bullshit fucking mechaninc in ANY media that is basically taken for granted because of cunts like Dr Who and whatnot.
It's one thing that it's literally impossible according to theoretical physics but more importantly it fucks up the narrative and the plot. Any time time travel is introduced you can just go back and retcon anything. COMPLETELY sidestepping the consequences of your actions and your developement.
And you can modify the aspects of it in whatever fuckin way you want because it's literally bullshit.
I wish the Dahaka was real and hunt down all these cunts who fuck with the flow of time. The time police seem kinda inept.
I get where you're coming from, 2T tried to be the middle ground between SoT and WW but ended up being not as good as either of them.
My biggest issuse with it were the non-improved combat and the useless stealth. I remember that I found the combat to be actually worse than WW, but I can't remember why.
>have there really been no HD remakes?!
There's one for the PS3, I think.
>"I ran along the wall, ready to make the next jump, but a saw caught my leg, I fell into pit of spikes, and one impaled my heart. The End"
>"Wait... That didn't happen..."
PoP time travel story made sense to me 2bh
Any time time travel is introduced you can just go back and retcon anything. COMPLETELY sidestepping the consequences of your actions and your developement.
Yeah, that's the point. It works for PoP for gameplay. You seem to be complaining about Life is Strange more than anything.
Are you okay, user?
>My biggest issuse with it were the non-improved combat and the useless stealth. I remember that I found the combat to be actually worse than WW, but I can't remember why.
some moves were removed and enemies seem to have different AI. I think they added stealth kills so people how didnt like the combat could skip it
Sands of Time had a GOAT soundtrack
youtube.com
Wasn't there another sequel?
>"And then as you crossed the room, I triggered a trap causing the floor to fall beneath you and watched in horror as the spikes below pierce through you"
>"No.. that wasn't it. Let me try again"
SoT > Forgotten Sands > TT > WW > POP08
there's a special place in my heart for the original, shame the best way to play it is to drag out the 360 for the XBLA version though
>just call me... kakolookiyam
>youtube.com
best moment right there, great way to end a game
>I ran along the wall but a glitch suddenly knocked me straight down
>Wait, let me start again
The prince really is a shitty storyteller
>Sands of Time had a GOAT soundtrack
yeah I listen to it all thetime.
Best song right here
youtube.com
>shame the best way to play it is to drag out the 360 for the XBLA version though
is it not good on PC?
Still the best PoP game and Ubisoft platformer, hands down.
Technically very impressive for its time. Maybe it's nostalgia but I fucking love this game.
there's undoubtedly a way to get the original working in dosbox, but i liked the quality of life stuff and pretty graphics of the XBLA port. if that version were re-released on steam or wherever, i'd eat it up no question
Done. I'll start the story from here next time.
...
>mumbles inaudibly to self outside of cutscene
>no subtitles
i don't get why people complained so much about 08's death mechanic but were fine with rewind sand. it just added another step in the what is basically same process. in 08 once you've 'solved' a platforming section and you were back on solid ground that's it, you're good. but to be fair my memory of the sands games is pretty hazy so maybe i'm missing something
What's wrong with the Gamecube version?
>best moment right there, great way to end a game
agreed. It's just beautiful
Can somebody explain to me what exactly the Dahaka was again? I never finished WW and only remember watching my dad play through it.
Also the tie-in at the end of Two Thrones made me smile because I hadn't played Sands of Time for a long time and it really sent me back.
There were two newer releases. The Forgotten Sands and one with a cell-shade art style that was really only Prince of Persia in name.
Forgotten Sands I think came out the same time as the movie. I thought it was pretty good, but not great, and it sort of lacked the charm or uniqueness previous titles had.
The cartoon style one (I've seen it referred to as Prince of Persia 2008) was hit or miss for a lot of people. I personally thought it was great and had some great platforming. The story was a little shallow but was good enough for the player to understand what they were doing and why, but had a cliffhanger ending and eventual DLC. I know a lot of people disliked it, maybe because despite being called Prince of Persia it was nothing at all a PoP game, and I'm not saying that to be hyperbolic.
clarification: by 'original' i'm talking about the literal original 2D Prince of Persia game, and its later XBLA/PSN? HD re-release featuring the 'modern' Prince
As far as game movies go, it was pretty good.
>Can somebody explain to me what exactly the Dahaka was again?
The Time Police
oh now I get it
time travel is great as long as you have zero pretensions of it making sense and just present it as a plot device that simply is
like bite the dust or made in heaven
...Hello?
youtube.com
I really wish they left the Kakulugian ending though. Disney gone done Disneyed it to death.
Oh god now it's going to be stuck in my head for a week.
>hellooooo
Fuck, I forgot about that. I got to replay that. An try the sequel, I never got an opportunity to.
Strange... I feel as if I've been here before...
>now it's going to be stuck in my head for a week.
welcome to my world
I like how they never explained the hidden fountains, it was just another Arabian Nights dreamlike fantasy thing that happened
No, no, no, that didn't happen.
I wish I could rewind Ubisoft... ;_;
speaking of that. Did he and the Princess really hook up in the oasis or was it just a dream that they both shared?
Here, for your foul deeds
youtube.com
The way this one ends is fucking gr8
>exactly the Dahaka was again
a guy who kills whomever released the sands of time.
I dunno but it made for a fucking awesome ending
>Just call me... Kakulugia
Considering the length of the staircase and the warped dimensions I think it was a dream.
What other games does shit like this?
Like, the whole game is just a story being told.
Mafia 3 and Call of Juarez: Gun Slinger does this, i think
>Here, for your foul deeds
well...time to fire up the old Xbone. I replay SOT almost every year anyway why not start today.
Seriously that soundtrack keeps bringing me back
Max Payne series
That was a good game.
PoP >>>>>>>>>> SoT kiddies
That is a 10 year old fact.
youtube.com
Fucking literally the only game where you can kill griffins. Every other game praise them for some reason.
Same here, mate. It starts with listening to the OST and spirals from there.
youtube.com
I loved it, really neat mechanic. And the fact that they disappear afterwards is so fucking cool, it's like the game fucks with your brain - was there really something here? Man, I want a new PoP game that is similar to SoT, but I know that it's literally impossible with how the games are now.
youtube.com
Did you, Sup Forums ? I know i sure did, several times.
"Was I gone for long?"
>"...What do you mean?"
"Never mind."
Explaining this would've ruined the fountains, but they didn't, and that's so good.
>that moment at 0:40 when he reverses everything that's been done
fuck you user time travel plots can be cool
youtube.com
>tfw playing almost every prince of persia in the series since a small child starting with the 2d platformer
>just started growing into an edgy teen when WW came out
Perfect timing.
Same here. This shit was the best thing ever for me at that time.
Does anyone remember the Java versions? Those little fuckers were great.
The fucking part at the end where he kisses Farah, then rewinds.
>I said I owed you my thanks. You presume too much.
They'd never get away with that shit nowadays.
>The fucking part at the end where he kisses Farah, then rewinds.
yeah that was really clever actually. Good way to end it
>Every other game praise them for some reason.
you can kill one in dragons dogma.
also that fight was the most random one ever.
>walk over big platform
>hmm looks like a boss fight
>come back a few hours later
>bossfight
>no relation to anything in the game
>just use timeslow+attack to kill him
didnt they try to explain the fountains in forgotten sands?
Also I always thought they would move to you a parallel timeline with a tougher prince or something.
Wait, that shit counts as canon ?
