What went so fucking wrong?
Why on earth couldn't they have left the formula of the first 3 (or 5) games like it was? It was literally perfect.

They did that with 1, 2, 3, Season of Ice, Season of Flame, Emter the Dragonfly, Attack of the Rhynocs, and somewhat of A Hero's Tail.
The TLoS games were made because due to time constraints, the team opted to use the same engine that Crash of the Titans was using.
the first one was the best. it all went downhill after that.
I don't care about the other faggot games but the first 3 were fucking perfect.
>every world felt like a real huge place with it's own theme and lore and NPCs
>collecting stuff was addicting as fuck, and there was a lot of variety of enemies, you could focus either only on the stuff which opened new worlds and return later, or on 100%
>every world had like 5-6 "quests" and there were overworlds too
>nice humor, nice voice acting
>nice music
>nice gameplay, as fluid as it gets
>nice graphics for that time
Much better than Mario64 and more satisfying since you could keep the gems. Damn it felt almost like an open world game.
Why don't these idiots create a new game like that?
>much better than SM64
Surely no one actually believes that right
So honest question, what would you do then to fix it?
>Remake the originals with better graphics but keep it the same (like the Crash trilogy)
>Remake the originals but add more story, features, worlds and characters/story
>Re-boot the series again (again)
>Do some other fourth option
I've just replayed the originals and love them, but I reckon they could do with a little something added to them if a remake or reboot was on the table. Maybe make the story flow a little better and help develop/flesh out the characters
No way in hell they could've gotten away with sticking to the same formula. Everyone got sick of 3D collectathons and they're only just now starting to come back.
1 and 2/3 have a different formula.
1 has two types of levels: standard levels where all you do is platforming in order to reach collectibles and flight levels that are essentially time trials where you flag checkpoints.
2/3 have the standard and flight levels, but they also have nonstandard gameplay that uses different controls and objectives, and the levels themselves are more segmented. 2 is more balanced between the different formats but 3 is pretty much a minigame showcase with some Spyro content shoved in.
Definitely 2.
Not worth to get it if it's only graphics. Just add 1 or 2 entire new world with 5 levels each and I'm good. Maybe some challenges too like time trial or something similar.
Gameplay wise yes.
Mario can't run or hit enemies with his head like Mario can. Neither can he spit fire.
Mario can throw fire at his enemies.
Not me. If it's a good formula your main concern should be level design/story.
If people want something else, they can play something else. You play a game BECAUSE of their formula, sure as not just because it has a dragon in it. But the developers sadly believe it's the latter...
It's kinda sad how easily you could expand on Spyro 1's design without having to resort to trolley rides or monkeys with guns.
I'd like to see the characters fleshed out a little more. Ripto for example; in the 2nd game he really doesn't do much for a villain.
He's just there. Maybe show him trying to take over each world, add a few of his banners to the environments or give his soldiers some uniforms or something. Otherwise hes simply a character who appears every 5-7 levels and makes a few comments before you forget about him until the next meeting 5-7 levels later
New worlds and environments would be nice, maybe make some sort of inventory/equipment system which helps give some more options versatility to the levels to increase replay ability???
2 and 3 are better than 1 in LITERALLY every single way.
>we will never return to the golden age of 3d platformers
>Thanks for playing!
>We'll miss you
...
>Mario can't run or hit enemies with his head like Mario can
They did.
They just renamed it Ratchet & Clank.
that charismatic motherfucker
>tfw played 3 after 2 and had no idea who moneybags was
>going back and finding his origin was such an amazing feeling as a kid
i miss the heart that went into these games
>Why on earth couldn't they have left the formula
Because no one wants to buy and play the same game over and over again.
Games need to evolve and sequels need to surpass the predecessors, some franchises pull this off while others don't.
Pretty much. But 1 has nostalgia and cozy value, so I wouldn't shit on it.
Spyro 3 just went overboard with it's fucking content though.
>You like games? Enter a world in a world in a world.
An over world had like 5 worlds and most of those even had 2-3 mini-worlds with mini games. Totally insane. I love it though.
