When did games stop being fun?

When did games stop being fun?

After the PS2 with very few exceptions.

Never. But honestly I have to take breaks between sessions now. Before I could play all the fucking day nonstop.

Since 2008-09~

Same with me. I used to play games all damned day with nary a break, but after two hours I'm straining now.

They never did, user. Good games are just as good as they were years ago and bad games are just as plentiful.

Since we grew up and everything stopped being fun.

after 2011

excellent meme.

Honestly games are so bad these days. If they have good gameplay, they last 3 hours, if they have bad gameplay they last 50 hours. If they have a good story, their gameplay sucks dick, and vice versa.

You can't win.

When they added permanent stat tracking, really hard to have fun when you have a bunch of turbo nerds screaming and ranting on how your ruining their perfect winrate.

THIS

When it became the only thing you did instead of having other hobbies

when they stopped being good

>games have become so boring to me iv started exercising daily lifting weights just because I have nothing else to do
Thank you vidya, you became so fucking horrible that the thought of causing myself to sweat, swear and agonize through painful sets is now enjoyable

When I switched to PC.

This desu senpai

>cut back Sup Forums time to an hour max
>games are fun again
Wew

Dark Souls ruined games for me. Everything else feels b team.

>le tired gamer meme
Fucking kill yourself OP

when devs unleashed their inner jew

>Go on Sup Forums for 8 hours
>Games are still fun
Wew

...

we played it all before, remember that time you had 9 guns, demons and a few maps?

and then you did it again 27 years later

Games stopped being fun when they started becoming more cinematic. Luckily there are indies and Japanese developers out there making less cinematic and more gamey games.

...

I'd say it's right around the time that every game had online crammed into it so that shitters could ruin every single community in every way possible. It's like every community is the CoD community now.

>Guys what character/build should I use?
>Guys what weapons/gear should I use?
>It's not overpowered, it's just overused!
>I don't need it to win, I just happen to like it!

I think the Souls community is the worst offender, Souls went straight to shit once Bamco decided to go all mainstream with their 2hard4u DaS1 marketing and attract a bunch of feebs who can't operate a damn wiki.

>moved house to where i can't have pets so no cat on my lap
>sold my consoles so have to just hunch over my keyboard to play shit with current setup
>quit smoking weed so harder to get immersed
>got older so always thinking of other shit i'm meant to be doing
>new games all suck dick, just cutscene simulators
>no official UFC games on PC to get comfy with from the couch

kill me

>moved house to where i can't have pets so no cat on my lap
why would you do this?

Stop with this meme, it's an objective fact that vidya died in 2007 and everything's been shit after that.

when you grew up

But I love steam world dig and it came in 2011

Kill yourself if you think that modern vidya is as good as vidya in the golden era. It's impossible to enjoy the shit released nowadays if you know better.

fuuuck that the last few years have been great

When you grow up

> t. underaged faggot

>indieshit
Kill yourself.

nah, now that we're out of the brown n bloom phase in the 2000s games are returning to their former glory

>It has to be a clone of overpriced shit that sells to be worth
No. Fuck you and your stupidity.

This here, but it extends to single player games as well. With achievements and "value per hour" memes encouraging bland repetitve chores.

When you stopped being happy

Honestly this. Everything became bloated hallway simulators and brown shooters. I went to gameboy and the occasional pc indieshit and haven't looked back.

After 6th gen/starting around 2005 on PC.

When you finally grew up and realized that playing video games is just a shitty fake hobby.

But now you have 2 guns, arabs and a few maps.

When you growing up and know too much, you will realize that you're playing same shit over and over again and then stopped having fun.
This is why kids enjoy garbage so much.

when my gf broke up with me

this

>love videogames
>get depressed for years
>stop enjoying vidya
>stop being depressed
>vidya is good again

but it only works if the game is good

>so many people legitimately hate video games here
What are you fucking doing here, just go to /r9k/ or something.

this guys gets it.. specially when you want to later play in tournys but nobody wants to be associated with you cause in regular matches you fuck around with builds instead of going meta optimal 110% wr...man fuck world of tanks community

The fuck? please tell me your baiting, i do agree achievements are dumb and most of the time end up doing passive spoilers

2007

Seems about right.

>Play any FPS
>Go to objective based game types because I don't like sitting in corners or dealing with people in corners
>Everyone's still sitting in corners protecting their K/D

I used to clean house in that awful CoD mode where everyone had 1 life and 1 team had to plant a bomb, I was apparently the only person in the world to ever plant the bomb and could usually run through open areas because everyone was in buildings looking at the entrances.

This.

when you realized you hopped on board when games were getting astronomically better (nes-ps2 era) and now they stopped for the most part. were at the point of heavy competition combined with diminishing returns for progressive development. less games, less advancement, more need to get more milk from the same cows. doesnt help that the recession, online-multiplayer gaming on console, and the biggest competition to console games (tablets, smartphones, streaming, apps, etc.) all were introduced within the same span of a few years.

now when games do something new its either a lie, out of desperation, a gimmick, a combination of several old things, or something far out of your comfort zone.

youre also in your 20s or early 30s now, which means that your standards have risen when it comes to what youre doing with your time. your only experience with games is probably them being constantly evolving, while being accessable and simple, which is a higher standard than the next generation will have for games, and a higher one than the generation before you had.

also, games started booming at a home-consumer level at the exact same time you realized what they were and how they worked. to compare it to drugs, you had a fantastic high at the beginning, but each dose you take afterwords is not only being compared to the ones you took previously, but you can only afford increasingly smaller and more diluted doses.

also the culture surrounding it is now impossible for you to ignore and your disassociation from it is being connected to the games themselves (see: people talking about undertale, anything anime, military shooters, etc.).

theres some reasons.

This nigga knows.

dlcs.

ever since i started to play games competitively i started to have less fun on games in general.

After the 6th generation of consoles were over. Friendly reminder for people who don't know. That is the era when PS2, Gamecube, GBA, and Dreamcast was a thing.

It's about what you do. If you do boring things it's gon b boring. I fight for my right to vidya. Work 8-12 hours then vidya until the last possible hour. You might not feel like jacking off but if you turn on some porn and jerk your dick around, the feeling is more inclined to change.

When you realized you can not escape from photorealism on PC.

When you discovered you can just stop playing them and post on Sup Forums.

No games are just bad nowadays. it's all about making shitty games for quick cash

when you started browsing this no fun allowed board

About the time Sony showed up and tried to turn them into movies.

Is that the guy from Westworld?

They're fun still.

This desu senpai

edgy

When I realised white genocide is real and we're being out bred by niggers and mudslimes because most of us are man children who don't want kids and hate society so we escape into video games and television.

The majority of games aren't fun anymore for various reasons but a good game comes around at least every 5 years. It's also about exposure. I have pretty much played at least 5 games of every genre each. It's just like movies and books you have to be selective.

When you started going on Sup Forums.

When I realized that I had to balance obtaining/playing them with other financial imperatives.

Childhood was a magical time none of us will ever experience again.

Truth

Whenever you become a jaded fuckwit with no personality

Underrated post.

I'm playing Shovel Knight right now and it brings a smile to my face.

>Playing Plague Knight
>Beating Shovel Knight in Plague Knight's stage
>Taking over the town
>Recruiting The Baz

>Growing up does not equal depression, loser.

Didn't mean to use meme arrow

Of you're not having fun with new games then go back and play video games from your childhood or older titles you missed.

The best thing about this is that you'll be able to notice and appreciate all the nuance and detail that you completely missed as a kid. It's especially better when your nostalgia still holds up today, and even when it doesn't it's easy to be able to appreciate what it meant for the time.

Tl;Dr enjoy games as an adult not a kid.

But they aged terribly.

2008

when you became no fun allowed faggot who's probably in your early 20's and hitting your first slump, you fucking chump.
