Why is this one of the most perfect games in existence?
Just beat it again for the first time in almost a decade. Only game that's ever been a 10/10 for me.

bumping with art

Needs another sequel badly.

...

I mean, Okamiden was a thing, but that was done by an entirely different studio after Cpcom gutted Clover.

Garbage casual Zelda wannabe. Don't even try to pretend it isn't.

At least get some slightly less shitty taste and try Darksiders.

...

...

It plays nothing like Zelda, get over it.

It plays a lot like zelda.
Not that guy though, and he's still a cunt that had a shitty childhood.

you're the one with the opinion, how about you tell us

Too slow, too boring, too easy. Bayonetta is better.

Comfy soundtrack, goofy but memorable characters, sense of humor that isn't over the top, fantastic art direction, hand drawn calligraphic art stills for important lore flashbacks, combat isn't challenging, but the brush mechanic never feels stale or tedious

youtube.com/watch?v=V1YRu2pqK3g

It's pretty good but it is not flawless. It is combat is too easy, starts out slow and its humor is weak.

Because it's literally Zelda but with better pacing and more speed. For example; the entire dungeons get streamed, you don't have to watch shord loading times/sequences every time when entering a new room, you dash just through them.

The vertical gameplay such as double jumps allow a more organic level design and environments, levels don't need that angular "lego" style Zelda dungeons need to climb platforms etc.

Dungeons also don't follow only one pattern like Zelda dungeons. In Okami you often don't even know you're in a dungeon, there are long dungeons,s hort dungeons, all kinds of dungeons.

Economy is amazing and there are many things to buy. Many optional things like swords, techniques etc.

Also decent combat.

Zelda is the best franchise ever. Okami is the best game ever made.

Zelda lite. Filler. Filler. Filler. Rehash. Filler. Rehash. I enjoyed it but it wasn't GOTY or GOAT or anything.

>and its humor is weak.
No.

>Zelda lite
>lite
Literally more complex than Zelda in every way and better in every way

I forgot this is Sup Forums and no one is capable of enjoying or talking about a game without comparing it to others.

Issun drooling over every woman gets pretty lame qucik

youtube.com/watch?v=60FJDw9qcFk

Anyone actually listening to this?

i didn't like it at all.

wait, where is the filter when activating the brush?

That I could've done without, I admit.
It didn't bother me, but after awhile I sorta tuned it out.
However, picking up old man Mr. Orange and using him as an improvised weapon was pretty great. And that was in the first 15 minutes.

elaborate

I actually liked it because I'm not gay, I thought just like Issun and then he said what I thought. Was funny.

Maybe your fantasy isn't good enough to picture those weird Okami girls sexy in your head.

Please don't elaborate and just go away.

>there'll never be a curazy game with playable Waka using PIllow Talk

The proportions always threw me off.

I want to play this but the differences between the various versions seem like a clusterfuck.

The art design was nauseating and distracting. The waggle stick stuff was dumb and it was too easy. If i remember correctly the worst thing of all was your helper who never shut up and explained shit in way too much detail when the game was easy as fuck anyway. The constant sound of that thing talking was like nails on chalkboard, and i can't believe they thought it was necessary.

Okami is literally Zelda with fun combat.

>version differences
The only thing that changes other than graphics between ps2 and HD, and controls between Wii and everything else, is the fact that you can't get demon fangs on loading screens in the later versions.

WAIT A MINUTE THAT CARD

You're the type of person that plays Golden Sun and considers it trash because they do the "wah-wah-wah" when talking as well.

It's better that zelda

YO what was that suplex shit?

Admit it they went overboard with that shit. Like half the game is that sound effect

absolutely not an issue

quick Sup Forums, post your fav divine instrument

Reflector as sub-weapon, counter at right moment, suplex a train

It's my favorite game to this day, but I really do wish it was more difficult.

A perfect game wouldn't have so much brutally snooze-inducing expository dialogue

Didn't bother me at all, it was just an added quirk.

>It plays nothing like Zelda, get over it.
It plays exactly like Zelda. How can someone be this wrong?

so it's agreed that glaives are batshit overpowered right?

...

It could do with a difficulty ramp, but I'm fine with it being comfy.
If you want a challenge, do the 3rd devil gate trial with no items.

I guess it didn't bother me because I was so wrapped up in the calligraphic cutscene art.
That shit was so well done

>linear and short dungeons that you merely go through the motions to finish
>repetitive dialogue that goes on for far too long often times
>final boss is a sphere

It certainly wasn't perfect. It does have some of the best art in a video game, though. And it is charming overall.

I really hate the 15 minute unskippable cutscene at the beginning that is made up of text boxes.

>charming
Every time I was in Kamiki I would help Kushi by cutting down the rice field, grow some flowers and then wait for her to pat me.

>linear and short dungeons
Did you not play Moon Cave or Oni Island?

I replayed it like 7 times in a row on the Wii

Yea it's one of the best games I've ever played.

wait you can do that

The ones at the end of the game? Yeah, of course, but those felt like more of a what you'd expect from a middling Zelda dungeon, and they're the finale. And still very linear and mostly just going through the motions of getting from point A to B; to the point where one is largely just a series of races. I can't imagine finding the dungeons in Okami impressive at all.

It's not even as good as Zelda. Calm down, its a 7/10 game that stands out.

>Why is this one of the most perfect games

stopped reading, no it isn't, kys

The more you talk the more clear it becomes you either can't remember or never played it

I think he played it. I remember playing years ago and the dungeons failed to impress In level design. Very linear dungeon design. If this was Zelda, it would considered disappointing

point out where >he's wrong

>still felt it necessary to make worthless post
How's it feel to be unhappy with your life?

Well, yes.
Cut rice field with brush technique.
Grow trees, grass and flowers painting dots and smears.
Kushi will pat you every time you run to her.

Kys, its his worst game. He can only make a great combat system

This is the only right answer.

>kys
>kys
>kys
Yeah okay. Saying it's kamiya's worst game isn't saying much though.

Bullshit, you start this deal by calling a masterpiece when it's just an average Zelda. It's as good as Skyward Sword

Kys for responding to me

Moon Cave and Oni Island were the 3rd and 7th dungeons respectively, out of 10 total, so they weren't at the end of the game, not the finale.
Moon Cave was the least linear dungeon in the entire game and required you to revisit lots of areas and use the large elevator in the middle to gain access to new rooms after unlocking things in others.
Oni Island was more linear, but not as bad as others.
>series of races
Only happens like twice in the game in the main story.
I'm not saying Okami's dungeons are the holy grail of dungeons in gaming, but they don't deserve to be blanketed as linear just because you never played the game.

You're entitled to your opinion, it's just a C- at best.

>try to use the brush
>super loud Japanese music and sound effects completely break my immersion in the combat and/or beautiful world
T-thanks, Okami.

How so?

>walk into japanese level
>YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Only complaints I can think of is it could have done less hand holding for puzzles, and refighting orochi/spider bosses got repetitive but otherwise it was a great game.

This is probably my all time favorite game. I've played through it around seven times now, and each time I find something new, like the secret canine warriors boss fight, or a new side area.

>10 dungeons

>Forest temple
>That one in Taka Pass (very short)
>Moon Cave
>wrecked ship (also short)
>Oni Island
>Ice mountain

I count 6

Tsuta Ruins
Gale Shrine
Moon Cave
Sunken Ship
Imperial Palace
Inside the Water Dragon
Oni Island
The past (Spirit Gate)
Wawku Shrine
Ark of Yamato

Even if you don't count some of those, like the Ark because it's basically just a boss rush, Moon Cave and Oni Island still aren't "the finale."

My 10 year younger imouto who started playing okami because she saw me playing a long ass fucking time ago got stuck on this puzzle at the age of 12. She asked me the answer several times but I just didn't remember it anymore.

So yeah, people get stuck in this game.

Dumbass, skyward sword and Okami are horrible games

Tell him he is retarded. Okami is Skyward Sword levels of treating the player as a retard like Issun telling you everything to finish a puzzle.

>him
Nice reading comprehension you got there. Also, is it really bad for a 12 year old to be stuck on this? I do feel like she is not as bright as I was at her age but who knows, haven't seen her for a long time now.

I wouldn't agree with it being a 10/10, but it is a really good game with a unique feel to it.
In my opinion there was too much dialogue and the fact that it's unskippable makes me not want to replay as much.

Which version should I play? The PS2 or the Wii version?

wii

Ps3.
HD is pretty.

What's wrong with the PS2 version? I played it on the PS3 but everything seems fine.

Nothing, but okami is one of the few games where wagglan is good.

Okami and Psychonauts are the best of their genre. Anything else is a distant 3rd place or lower.

Wii has horrible controls, just read on it to see how much people hate it.
PS2 is ok but only on CRT, if you have HDTV only then go for PS3 otherwise superior visual style will look like a bunch of lego on which someone puked.

>orochi/spider bosses got repetitive
I remember in demo this spider was on flames and there was different way to defeat it, something more original I think.

How can anyone say this kills Zelda? I'm not the biggest Zelda fan but when I play Zelda, I play it for the dungeons and puzzles. Okami has neither of those. It has a combat system which is slightly better than Zelda but revolves around finding the enemy weakness to a brush technique and UNSKIPABLE, SLOW DIALOGUE WHICH YOU STILL HAVE TO PRESS X TO CONTINUE in cutscenes. Also the side kick holds your hand even more than post-TWW Zelda and spoils any fun of exploring/finding things out for yourself.

It's not a bad game but come on, if it weren't for the beautiful artstyle and the cool effect when using the brush this would be just another bad Zelda clone.

This game is easier than any zelda game (more than WW, ALBW, and TP). Auto Fairy mechanic with the astral pouch, enemies hit for low damage and you are so agile its easy to avoid almost everything, infinite time for Brush techniques, stockpiling potent healing, attack, and buff items, (at least in something like OOT stocking up on Blue potions would use 80% of your total money), the game hands out money more than TP, you can stock up to 99 of said items, the puzzles are 95% braindead, 5% cryptic, and health boosts are plentiful

It's boring as fuck, a start as slow as a 90's JRPG. Didn't finish it.

>if it weren't for the beautiful artstyle and the cool effect when using the brush this would be just another bad Zelda clone

The beautiful art, the cool effect of using the brush, the excellent music, the great atmosphere, the diverse and fun characters, the cool twist on a Japanese legend and the humor. The dungeons are perfectly acceptable, and the abilities are way, WAY more interesting than any item in Zelda, with the added benefit of being viable during most of the game.

What does Bayonetta have to do with it? It's basically in a different sub-genre

I liked the game a lot but I can't remember much about the dungeons.

I wish more games put as much effort into their rendering as this game does.

imo the biggest thing is just the controls. It's so much nicer to move your character than in any Zelda game. For me the best bits were mostly overworld stuff - where there really is exploration and the mobility hits home

>diverse and fun characters
which one isn't a stereotype? Dungeons are mostly corridors and the only good ones are nothing to OOT/MM(/TWW). The rest I give you. It just feels way too 'jrpg-y' and I always avoided the combat since it's just not fun. Zelda's not that fun either but at least it's fast and integrates with the environment

Not really a part of this argument but I don't really see why people think a character being a stereotype automatically makes it bad or why people throw it around as an insult.

If they can make a stereotype good then shouldn't that deserve praise?
