Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War appreciation thread
>Excellent introduction to the world and setting, elegant and concise >Gigantic maps that represent the entire continent >No MU >No features designed for the autistic fanbase like petting and cringy supports >A beautiful, well told story of loyalty, treason and righteousness >Marriage in this game is done in an elegant, subtle way >Fleshed out units that are likeable without the need of going full animu >Hard as fucking balls, noobs CANNOT finish this game without abusing savestates >Multiple castles during every chapter that literally >>>>>>> my castle in newer games >Absolutely GOAT soundtrack, no need to elaborate here just go and check it out >Marks the introduction of a character skills >The existence of Holy bloodlines and the little bonuses it implies >ACTUAL secrets that are tied to certain characters like the brave axe or celice meeting the ghosts of his father and mother in chapter 10
Everyone reading this that got started in the franchise thanks to the 3ds games should be playing this RIGHT NOW
>>Hard as fucking balls, noobs CANNOT finish this game without abusing savestates >implying This game is pretty easy desu. Agreed with the rest of your points though.

776 is better

I agree, but I have a soft spot for the FUCKHUEG maps of FE4
Robert Watson
>>Excellent introduction to the world and setting, elegant and concise
you mean the part where it just slaps a timeline at you and an intro cutscene with very little context beyond the assumption that these are things the player should care about?
the story may be good but it sure as shit doesnt introduce it well. i needed to rewatch that shit at least 3 times to wrap my head around what was important and what wasnt, and that was AFTER i had already gotten 3 levels into the game
id venture to say nothing is elegant about this game aside from maybe the visuals. everything is so jarring and clunky at times its a pain to manage. whether its missing out on the marriage system completely because nowhere is it explained in detail, the absolute lack of balance between classes and units, or anything having to do with the inventory or trading items or funds between characters, many core features were done far better in the newer games (especially the tellius games) to the point that the things that are interesting about genealogy are overshadowed. i mean shit, if you want a better FE game thats even comparable to 4, just play thracia
Wyatt Kelly
Introduction is perfect, do you expect a Star Wars intro?
Damn that image is beautiful
POST MUSIC
Aiden Gray
Genealogy was good, but I think of it more as a set up for the main course, Thracia. The world building and story were great, best in the series, but the chapters were boring a lot of the times. With 776 you get great SRPG gameplay and story, characters, etc. It doesn't help that Seliph is pretty ass compared to based Sigurd.
Colton Campbell
graphics fucking suck
Matthew Cruz
Desperately hoping Echos means we'll get remakes of 4/5
Asher Evans
>Hard What the fuck are you talking about? Even RD easy was harder than this >>Gigantic maps that represent the entire continent Lol, let's forget to mention that there only few of them And let's not forget >Weapon can't break making game casual as fuck Fucking awakening kids wants to start shit again
Aaron Richardson

Landon Russell
Agree with almost everything you said, but you don't have to be such a falseflagging, condescending faggot about it.
Easton Martin
Stay strong, FE4bros. Even Gaiden got remade.
We'll have our time soon enough.
Charles Allen
FIRE EMBLEM ECHOES: GENEALOGY OF THE HOLY WAR
BASED NINTENDO HOLY FUCK
KEEP YOUR HOPES UP
Jacob Cruz
Gaiden will bomb because "true oldfags" can only pirate games and no one else interested in it
I'm more worried about nuFE fags trashing Echos in reviews because of a lack of avatar/marriage stuff and it becomes the next game that gets ragged on ala Shadow Dragon.
what actually worries me is that SOV could be an incredible game and nu-fe babies will still shit on it because it does not pander to their autistic needs
im gonna buy like 4 copies of it, i want my fe4 remake so i can die pecefully
Hunter Johnson
So, I just started Gaiden in anticipation of Echoes, what am I in for? I can already see that it's a little weird compared to other games, and the translation doesn't help much. Basically, how long is it? Because I want to get to the SNES games fairly soon.
Justin Stewart
I never saw people trashing shadow dragon for not having avatar/marriages Game had enough problems even without it But hey, I already saw people complaining about Hidari "censoring" old designs
Samuel Jenkins
It's pretty short
I'd just look up a short guide or something to get you acclimated to its quirks
Adrian Hughes
Tanith is cute as hell
Thomas Taylor
The Black Knight but his RD version because it has better drawn art and is the same guy.
Evan Nelson
FE4 is my favorite one.
Ryan Robinson
Alright, I'll probably do that. There's definitely some weird shit going on. I had Silk use what I think is Nosferatu and I didn't notice anything happen.
Henry Thompson
Horse Emblem is a good game, but no need to suck it off quite that much.
Jonathan Cook
More or less what I was getting at, no avatar to allow for people to feel good about all the characters kissing up to a guy with their name, no marriage for their self insert to fuck their favorite character.
I wasn't saying that's WHY people rag on Shadow Dragon, my point was just that Shadow Dragon was a remake of an older game that was missing features (such as support conversations) that had now become commonplace in Fire Emblem, and now that may happen with Echoes not having pair up, avatars, marriage, things that nuFE fans are so used to.
Brandon Flores
Any particular translations or patches recommended for FE 4 and 5?
William Campbell
I used the new Naga patch for 4
I believe the patch for 5 is still kinda shit, with Yugioh abridged memes
Charles Flores
Project naga for FE4, there's only one patch for 5.
Jonathan Powell
>Yugioh abridged memes disgusting
Adrian Walker
>voting for Sephiran's pet bitch instead of Ashnard >voting for anyone when the costumes will inevitably get awarded to Takumi/MU/Lucina
Ashnard was kinda lame tbqh. He was built up a lot but the final battle with him was way too easy and felt like he should've been a bigger threat.
Jaxon Price
which final bosses haven't been too easy?
Blake Sanchez
Well there's...uh....hm....
Shit
Jeremiah Martinez
Ashera was pretty hard. 8 sq aura with Mantle on all of them, releases a damaging wave every few turns, and does a lot of damage. user pls
Eli Bell
I wouldn't count on it without some heavy censorship.
FE4 had some pretty dark elements like the child sacrifices which is a major plot element. There's also outright cases of incest like Raquesis being in love with her half brother.
David White
Yeah the FE5 patch is still pretty bad, a new one is being worked on but I wouldn't count on it being finished anytime soon.
Christian Johnson
Even fucking Veld from FE5 is a joke one of the easiest in a series which I found pretty ridiculous considering how unforgiving the rest of the game was. Excluding the fact you can put yourself in an unwinnable situation by not having any means to open the locked doors.
Grayson Russell
Well, we got 10 translated on the fucking wii, without anything being censored
Connor Rodriguez
>tfw the recent direct has resulted in 2+ Fire Emblem threads being up at any given time
Carter Gomez
FE4 with heavy censorship isn't FE4 at all. Incest is central to the plot.
Michael Cox
Conquest unless you sacrifice all your units to hold off the droves of reinforcements, or have that specifically crafted setup from Youtube to kill Takumi in one turn.
Daniel Bell
Well it doesn't just factor only the boss but also the battle. For a more recent example, Takumi possession battle in Conquest had a ridiculously buffed final enemy in Takumi, but he could feasibly be taken down without as much difficulty as you would expect. However, his map is stuffed with absurdly powerful, respawning enemies with dangerous skillsets that also gave NO EXP that would band together and mob you unless you devoted powerful attackers to bottlenecking their hallways plus a healer or healing item, limiting your offensive forces for Garon. Also from Fates, the final boss of Revelation is a multi-staged massive boss with cumulative HP of 286 and a skill that halves all damage he takes. Radiant Dawn had a 9 square boss with a series of shields that lowered the health of many units before you can actually damage the real boss (there is a very strict limit of Nihils and it is in your best interest to kill her fast, due to the waves), damaging magical and physical waves that can oneshot less defensive units, and extremely high magical atk plus skill nulling. Ashnard himself had a ton of soldiers and could move, but he was barely more threatening than the normal enemies, which were extremely easy to kill because of how PoR's combat was balanced and the amount of easy bottlenecks that they would all funnel to, letting you cap all your non capped units and simultaneously eradicate all his support. He then had his time in the spotlight, but then flopped there too. His boss fight isn't poorly designed, it's just that the game, by nature, is too easy to provide a suitable challenge.
Parker Bennett
If 4 ever gets a remake I hope they add rescue mechanic and slightly rework the maps so that there is some sense in using non-mounted units. And fuck non-shared money.
William Richardson
oops, meant forces for Takumi, not garon. Also Takumi forces you behind destructible shields that slow down your movement but are needed to prevent the massive damage caused by his wave attacks.
Andrew Morales
The late stages of Conquest really just seem like they threw together as much shit as possible to make things inconvenient for you. Look at those rape halls in the Ryoma map for example, or infinite-range 200% accuracy Entrap staves in the Garon map.
Jayden Powell
as someone dipping their toes into earlier games in the series, I started Conquest but got tired of it around the Fox Tribe chapter (Hard Difficulty)
worth finishing?
Joseph Gutierrez
It only gets worse from there, if you ask me. Especially on Hard or Lunatic, apparently the bullshit is slightly less stacked in Normal.
Ian Morgan
I'm on chapter 21 on lunatic, those rock-throwers are fucking faggots and I hate this game.
Liam Jones
I regret playing past here personally.
You can't even really write around most of this. I'm almost curious to see how treehouse would try.
Hudson Russell
Ashera is ridiculous if you're going in blind
Dylan Stewart
I managed to finish Conquest on Hard and it fucking destroyed my patience. I didn't even want to think about Fire Emblem for months after that. So much stupid shit starting with the ninja rape cave and just continuing on until the end.
Robert Young
Don't forget Iago's infinite crippling staff skills. It's worth finishing but it is VERY challenging. Conquest is generally regarded as good because despite the dumpster fire-tier story, it has a good serving of challenge with difficult maps that have designs that don't stray into the gimmick territory that Revelations does.
Ayden Lewis
It was also hilarious how much they gimped the challenging bosses in Birthright. Iago in Conquest >Excalibur tome, the most powerful tome >Infinite Staff skill with Enfeeble, Silence, Freeze, and a FUCKING HEXING ROD >Skills of Seal Strength, Heartseeker, Good Fortune, Savage Blow, Staff Savant Iago in Birthright, same difficulty level >Normal Ginnungagap tome >Hagakure Blade which he can't even use >Skills of only Vengeance and Bowbreaker
Jose Evans
Why isn't there a CK II mod for this?
I want holy blood simulation shenanigans
Justin Foster
Shit game desu
Easton Cruz
>come on Sup Forums >this is the first thread I see Wow, weird as fuck. I just got done making a Sigurd 3DS theme.
Adrian Wood
You found Iago challenging? Wow, so such people do exist.
Carson Nguyen
What's the problem exactly?
Angel Russell
You seem to forget Alvis cucks Sigurd with his own fucking sister and then proceeds to invite Sigurd to a bbq
Luke Adams
If you can't tell by just looking, then it's a waste of time to respond to you.
Sebastian Morris
it was fate
Colton Brooks
He wasn't challenging (frail spellcaster versus the powerful Nohr royals), rather his 10sq staff range was annoying when fighting the other enemies in the level. However I was pointing out how they changed a multi skilled, high damaging enemy was changed to a regular sorcerer.
Aaron Myers
>fellated as the #1 Lord in the series with the highest game power and the most use >can't even handle a little BBQ
Pretty silly
Anthony Williams
>Gaiden had an auto-battle mechanic that you could use to just make every unit move forward on a single command >they didn't bring it back to FE4
Liam Phillips
t. never played FE4
Luis Jenkins
Most overrated game in the series besides Awakening, rather tedious and not particularly challenging. It's not a bad game, it just gets an unjustified amount of praise for what it is. Good FE5 translation when?
Christopher Martinez
>noobs CANNOT finish this game without abusing savestates You can save at the beginning of every turn, you don't really need savestates.
Brayden Hall
desu I've barely even played FE4. The huge maps intimidate me. I just picked up Cipher a few days back and noticed there wasn't a Sigurd theme on 3DSthem.es. There is now.
What should I keep in mind when playing FE4, anons?
Ryder Long
>the most use Who in the world thinks Sigurd gets the most use?
Anthony Morgan
Iago isn't challenging. His "challenge" comes in that he cripples your units as you try and get to him, making the other enemies in the level much more dangerous. Get hit by a hexing rod? Have fun being oneshot by every enemy in the rest of the level.
Andrew Butler
Ehh, usually the final map itself is hard, not the boss itself. Veld kept spamming his special snowflake status effect staff. Takumi had this huge bullshit hallway that's so hard there is no strategy for it on lunatic other than skipping it in two turns.
Ashnard does go berserk, but Wrath Resolve Ike solos him anyways.
Benjamin White
"Most use" as in "most utility", user.
Brandon Brooks
Sigurd is good for combat and nothing else. What utility does he have exactly?
Aaron Garcia
>can't even handle a little BBQ Actually, if you let the intro before the start screen run you get to see scenes between chapters you've cleared. One of them is the battle between Sigurd and Alvis. Sigurd was actually winning, but Deirdre kept healing Alvis while Sigurd's party got wiped.
Ethan Collins
Soloing the fucking game, that's his utility.
Elijah Cooper
my heart
Blake Moore
I don't know, I haven't played FE4, but that was what that user meant.
Joseph Ortiz
>everyone should be playing this one >have to go to romhacking dot net to even in english >project naga isn't even listed, its in the forums bar of entry isn't exactly low...glad I know what i'm doing.
if the graphics are shit to you or something imagine how we felt playing on a CRT in the 90s.
Dylan Collins
Other than retardation, what was the point of saying Sigurd is the most powerful and gets the most use, if you just meant to say most powerful twice?
Noah Martin
If you think the graphics are the issue in that pic, you are fucking hopeless and your opinions are trash.
Xavier Gutierrez
recruit jamke at all costs. don't forget to turn on auto save
Landon Adams
I killed Jamke and proceeded just fine, on chapter 7 now. What makes him so necessary?
If you ask me, Ayra's the one who carries the day alongside Sigurd, and her kids are monsters too.
Charles Kelly
I'm not the one arguing that he has utility, I don't believe in efficiency. However, I will tell you this: FE4 only really has has warp and return staves for utility which serve to move units back to the main castle once the map demands you to protect it protip: it always does. It has no rescue, no trade, nothing. So combat is really the greatest utility in that game.
Isaac Jenkins
I thought this game wasn't fully translated? I don't want to start playing it just to get cockblocked by moon runes down the track.
Austin Gonzalez
Here's that time Nintendo Power talked about it.
Jonathan Williams
I assumed they did.
what is the issue with the pic then?
Oliver Sanchez
>mfw Ayra's kids have Sol & Astra and a Skill Ring each
Austin Garcia
I really wish this had gotten the remake honestly. Its a much better game than gaiden.
